*~* Amelia's POV *~*

We arrived home shortly, there was little talk on the way back but that was because we were off in our own worlds. I gripped Max's hand firmly in mine as we were about to enter the house, taking deep breaths in the process.

Maybe I'm overreacting, what's the worst she could do anyway? I'm standing by Max, I done my part and fulfilled my promise. So maybe she just wants to see me.

We entered the house which seemed to have the same stiff atmosphere as before and walked towards the family room. Internally I hoped that she wouldn't be here and that I was dreaming but another part of me was dying with curiosity.

What exactly did she want? What was her hidden motive?

She was there looking at same - well, almost the same. She looked almost... tired.

"Amelia, you're here. Max too," she greeted a smile, I returned an uneasy expression. How was I supposed to react anyway?

"Um... hi," I returned, sitting myself beside Max on the loveseat. I was internally twiddling my thumbs hoping for the awkwardness to die away. The thought alone seemed to make it worse: what was my problem?

"So... Dad how's everybody?" I asked, shattering the silence. I looked over to Huilen who's presence I had just registered. She smiled assuringly, making my heart ache slightly in reminisce. To be honest I quite missed her though, she was always there. I returned a weak turn up of the lips in return before fixating my gaze on my Father.

"They miss you, especially Aubrey constantly complaining about the lack of shopping partner but they are happy that you are happy," he answered. I gave a brief nod and clutched Max tighter as I dared my eyes to train on the woman beside him.

"You wanted to talk?" I spoke addressing the matter myself for the first time.

"Privately would be best," she replied her eyes shifting to Max causing an automatic reaction of my hand to tighten his again.

"No, Max stays," I stated firmly. To prove the point Max let go of my hand and wrapped his arm securely around my waist. The look that flashed across my mother's face wasn't something I could decipher, it seemed like a mixture of jealousy, happiness and curiosity all morphed into one.

"Okay," she accepted catching me by surprise. "The reason I didn't show up earlier was because I wasn't physically able to. Even though I didn't die, it did weaken me in some way. I felt physically able only about a year ago. And all I did was observed. I saw the way you were with your friends, family and sometimes alone. I would've said something but I was afraid. I wasn't sure to how you would react and I knew if I unveiled myself in England your reaction would be worse. So when I found out that you were coming on holiday here, I showed myself to your Father. We talked everything over."

I took everything she had said in, I knew that I would react worse if she had shown me herself in England. But the fresh information sunk in fast. New questions formed in my mind urging for some release. Enough that I felt the beginning of a headache. I pressed my head to Max's shoulder ignoring the eyes and concentrated on his heart beat as his hand rubbed circles on me assuringly. Goose bumps rose following by my body starting in arch into his slightly making me want to do things not appropriate for the current situation.

"Why weren't you here before?" I asked her, my voice muffled because my mouth was at Max's neck.

I felt Max's motives, it made me smile that I wasn't the only one having to control themselves.

"I was looking for your father," she started. Gee I already know that. I looked up at her, arching my eyebrow hoping that she could understand my silent question.

Sadly, she didn't.

"Why did you have to leave me? On my own that is," I asked hoping to finally to get an answer. She paused, pursing her lips as if she didn't have a excuse.

"I couldn't handle you," she admitted, I could tell she was feeling pathetic. And what was I feeling?

Confusing. Pure confusion. But Max tensed beside me.

"You couldn't handle her?" Max repeated, speaking for the first time. I wanted to know what was going through his head. His voice showed no emotion making me even more curious. I opted for reading it through Dad's... Edward's mind but it was then when I realised that there were only five people in the building. Mother, father, Huilen, Max and I. With the exception of Cyan who was resting peacefully upstairs.

"You showed so much talent for a young child. I didn't know what to do with you. You were so observant, you knew that your Father was missing though I doubt you'd remember what he looked like. I was scared, I didn't want to bring you up on your own. I wanted your Father to witness you growing up. So I had to find him," she explained, her voice painted apologetic. I didn't know what to feel so I just grabbed a handful of the back of Max's T-shirt, dismissing all feelings regarding the subject.

I nodded slightly, again taking in the information.

"What about the Volturi..." I voiced. Regret flashed over her face this time, she gulped despite the lack of saliva.

"I was searching, and they found me. Aro used his ability and got hold of my thoughts. He wanted me to join the Volturi and gave me an offer I couldn't reject." I gave her a look indicating that I wanted her to press on.

She sighed before saying, "They were going to find you and take you. Possibly kill you." There was sincerity ringing in her voice making me believe everything she said. Like years ago, when it was the two of us.

I wasn't sure on what to feel. She joined the Volturi to protect me. So I didn't die before I had a change to live. The thought swirled around my mind like vultures trying to find the weakest point before polluting my mind.

"Is that why you sent that letter? How did you know about the Cullens?" Max asked, emotion still not colouring his voice as he spoke my thoughts exactly.

"Yes, I bumped into Huilen once again after asking her to check on you every fortnight. I gave told her what to write in the letter and to take you away from the house whilst you were sleeping so you'll never realize. That's probably the best thing about you: you love your sleep." she paused pursing her lips once again before continuing. "Nahuel had previously told me about the Cullens and I had heard some of the Volturi talk about them very occasionally. I felt like I already knew that I could trust them with you so I did. And I still do."

The last statement caused a little smile to break out on my lips. She left me with them because she trusted them even before she knew them; before I gave a chance with trusting them. I guess brownie points go to her: I wouldn't have met Max otherwise.

"Dad, why did you go in the first place?"

My Father took the question off guard probably not expecting to give any input at all. He gulped, the movement seeming completely acceptable because his human traits.

"Joham, my father was seeking for me," he started. My eyes bulged slightly. I had another Grandpa?

Well duh... how else would he exist he's a hybrid. I suddenly felt stupid. I never once questioned any of this when I resided in England. I didn't want to know, but it filled so many holes.

"I didn't want him to find out about you two so quickly. I didn't know what he'd think of a Granddaughter. I just left telling Huilen to keep in touch with Hilary," he explained. I nodded slightly.

They both left to protect me, but at the same thing indirectly made me prone to loneliness issues.

It's better then being dead, I thought bluntly but dismissed it. I'm glad Plan B never went into action.

"Why were you spying on me before you..." I trailed contemplating whether or not I should say kidnapped but decided against it. "Took me to Italy and why Italy?"

"I wanted to know how you lived... I saw that you were upset. I looked over you when you left for a couple days. I saw when you met Damien. But I respected your make up and left you two be. I never followed to school either. And I saw that you were close to Max and I didn't want you two to be too close... and Italy because it was the place I was informed Nahuel was."

The information set in; the questions lessened. I felt satisfied with what I knew but there was one question burning in my mind.

What does she want now?

Do I want the answer to this? I don't want to reject her and there's no way I'm leaving Max.

Not again.

"What do you... want now?" I asked, mustering all my confidence. Max held me closer to him, giving me a certain sense of what he could possibly be thinking. I looked up at his, the handsome planes of his face fixed firmly neutral giving no emotion.

"I want to spend some time with you," she answered. I gulped, and turned to her her face pleading. Red eyes urging.

"How?" I asked. Maybe she could live here for awhile, I'm sure she'll be allowed.

"In England." Everything froze in time at those two words. Max's body stiffening instantly in hostility before he effortlessly broke the hold I had on him and strided out the room.

Ah finally, gosh I'm so tired right now. I can't concentrate on the screen. Sorry if this chapter is boring or too short. It fills gaps. Anyways, do you guys have any questions I have left unanswered? Apart from why Max left completely pissed off?
