It had never actually occurred to me that I had never been at JJ's job until today. I looked over at the large hotel and recognised it. Even though it was well known , I only knew it because my parents had been trying to buy it , I didn't say anything when we pulled up to avoid any altercation with JJ.
"All right keep a look out , were behind enemy lines" JJ said and reached into the glove compartment.
"Yo , c'mon man , put it back" John B said
"What ?" JJ asked as we all glared at him.
"Dude are you serious ?" I asked incredulously
"You can never be too careful" He shrugged
" Hey, I predict that bringing a weapon to a four-star hotel will likely cause more problems than they solve" Pope said sticking his head in the window
"Thank you Pope" John B said gesturing at him
" I swear to God, I'm gonna throw that thing in the ocean, JJ." Kie said poking her head between the two seats.
"Put it back" John B said grabbing the gun by the barrel
" You can't grab a gun like that." JJ mumbled as John B shoved the gun far into the glove compartment.
We all hopped out of the minivan and stood on the pavement while JJ reached back into the van.
"Can't forget my badge , professional busboy" JJ grinned
"youre cute" i mused , laughing when he winked
"So .. where exactly are we going ?" Pope said
"We're getting on the internet cause only Kim's people have to the internet right now" JJ said grinning over at me
We walked in the back entrance to avoid any unwanted confrontations. I watched as JJ led the group of us through the small kitchen , I recognised a few people and waved.
"Andrew !" JJ greeted .
"All right ?" Andrew asked him clasping their hands momentarily.
"Kim Karter ? What are you doing here ?" He asked.
Andrew was the manager of the hotel , he knew me from my parents and the few times I had joined them on their business trips to here. He was a nice boy and was surprisingly young to be running a whole hotel.
"Gotta check out a few things for my parents" I lied smoothly
"Oh right ! I heard about that ! They're going through with it then ?" The boy asked and I winced as JJ turned to me with a surprised look on his face
"I'm not too sure yet , I'll let you know if I hear anything" I said smiling
"youre the best Kim" He said winking.
I laughed and walked through the rest of the kitchen with everyone else. As we reached a long hallway JJ pulled me back a bit behind the rest of the group.
"You're checking things out for your parents ? What's that supposed to mean ?"
"They're supposed to uh... be buying here.." I said avoiding eye contact
"Are you serious ? Why didn't you tell me ?" He asked
"I forgot you worked here" I defended , he looked at me for a second. "Are you mad ?"
"Mad ? No , a little weirded out that soon your parents are gonna be my bosses but they're good people." He admitted
I let out a sigh of relief and leaned my head against his arm. "I really thought we were about to have a domestic in the middle of the hotel" I said laughing
"Can I come over later ?" He asked suddenly
"Is that even a question at this point ?" I smiled and his shoulders relaxed
We followed the guys into the room where Pope had been typing in coordinates
"Lemme get in there , I gotta check on my .. insta models" He said.
Kie rolled her eyes. "We don't have time for your 'insta models' right now" She said using her fingers as quotes.
We all waited for the screen to load and then as the map zoomed in I looked over at Kie who shrugged , I was glad I wasn't the only one with no idea what was going on.
"Oh shit ! It's on the high side ! It's only 900 feet" John B exclaimed
"That's not too deep" JJ said grinning
"Is that doable or something ?" She asked
"Totally doable" JJ said high fiving John B
"Will we be taking your personal submarine ?" Pope asked and I snorted
"How do you know this anyway Mr Dive master ?" John B asked frowning
"They got a drone that can drop 1,000 feet , it has a 360 camera and everything" He said. "It's for , like , deep dives and stuff , it's exactly what we need" He continued practically jumping with excitement
"Can your dad get his grimy little hands on that ?" John B asked
"Well my dads grimy little hands got his ass fired.." He said , his excitement faltered. "I guess the salvage captain frowns on showing up shitfaced ... turns out." He said looking at his feet
"Well that works out even better" I said
"How exactly is that ?" Pope asked spinning in the chair to face me with his hands clasped like a villain in a movie.
"Well the drones still there right ?"
"Yeah it should be in the impound yard out back" JJ said
"So .. we just get it ?" I said. "I mean we just need it for a little bit and then bring it back right ?" I asked
Everyone paused , JJ and John B nodded.
"How much did you say was on the Royal merchant again ?" Kie asked
"Four hundred mill" JJ responded
"Four hundred million dollars ?" Kie asked
"That's the one" I said , with that she had made up her mind , she headed toward the door but Pope jumped up and blocked the exit.
"No. Absolutely not. Absolutely not. No !" He said
"Pope move" I said putting my head in my hand
"Guys that too—" He started
"Pope , come on" Kie demanded.
He sighed , he knew there was no way he was winning this argument.
"Can't we do anything legal for money ?" He asked
"Pope I'm afraid your in the wrong friend group if you wanna do things legally" I smiled
"Go" John B said like a mother ushering his child.

AS WE PULLED UP near the boat Kie was using as a decoy she gave me a quick kiss on the cheek.
"Don't get caught" She said
"No promises" I grinned as I ran off and crouched near the boys behind a crate. We paused as Kie pulled up closer to the gate and waved at the guard.
"How's it goin with Kie ?" JJ asked John B.
"Woah , you made moves on Kie ?" I asked with wide eyes , he nodded. "Why was I just not told about that ?" I frowned
"You were busy" John B shrugged. "It's okay , it's not awkward , weird or anything" He said slowly , not making eye contact.
"She rejected you didn't she ?" I asked tilting my head , JJ snorted
"Honestly I did not think you would actually listen to me" He said.
"I mean I'm a little surprised you had the balls Jombie" I shrugged
"What ? Why ? I have plenty of balls" He said and I wrinkled my nose.
"Nah I have to agree with Karter here" JJ piped up
"I have to agree with JJ who agrees with Kim" Pope said
"Woah okay guys" JB said faking hurt
The group went quiet for a few minutes as we watched Kie until JJ coughed. "So.. like Kie ? She like.. she definitely gave you the heisman ?" He asked
"Oh, no question. Yup" John B said and I laughed
"Gotcha" He grinned
"Maybe she's just into somebody else." Pope said shrugging and then looking longingly out at her
"Okay girlies , when we're all done simping over Kie , the gate is open" I laughed away to myself.
"Not all of us are simping for Kie" John B said.
"What do you mean ?" I asked
He didn't say anything , just nodded over at JJ.
