Black and White Tips in Writing

— May-ann Evardone Godezano

Black Tips

I'm not tolerating these.

1. Untian ang word count, maybe 1k-1.5k lang. Kapag mas mabilis ma-scroll ang chapters, mas maraming reads ang makukuha. Depende ito sa intensyon. Kung hanggang 1k+ ang range ng word count mo since gusto mo ng direct, it's okay. It's a positive trait po.

3. Follow for follow, read for read, vote for vote.

4. Maghanap sa diverselit genres. Ito madali lang. Hindi ko pa to masyadong nae-explore o wala akong alam dito. Basta kapag sinabing diverselit, nagpo-promote sila ng stories.

White Tips

1. Relax and think of a good plot.
2. Brainstorm.
3. Write and write and write.
4. Relax again and pray.

Again, I'm not tolerating the black tips, pero kung may eager ka na magkaroon ng reads, votes and follows iyan ang fastest way. Kung para sa'yo ang pagsusulat, kung mahal mo ang pagsusulat, may magbabasa ng stories mo, hindi man ngayon pero God has his own way.Instead of striving on the numbers of reads, strive for improvement. We will improve on the right time, we will shine on the right time, always remember that there's a room for improvement.

Comments Section:

Note: I included this because I saw some relevant opinions.

Clavis Cularlus:

LBakit considered as black tips ang 1k-1.5k? I write within the range of 1k-2k wordcount and it is not because of reads. The idea never crossed in my mind either. You don't want your chapter to be too long and the whole narration goes circle. There were times it will be boring. And 1k-1.5k is a good range for cliff hangers. You see, sometimes readers are excited to reach the end of your story especially if your story knocks their curiousity. And word count that exceeds 1.5k might kill their excitement as it is too long already.

May-ann Evardone Godezano:

Yun nga po. Gaya ng sabi ko, depende sa intensyon. Sinama ko siya sa black tips kasi fastest way siya ng pag-gain ng reads, not that masama siyang gawin.

Ysarra Cei:

Clavis, some writers force themselves kasi to limit the word-count in 1k-1.5k words para mas mabilis ang akyat ng reads, kaya nasa black tip. Ang pangit kasi ng goal.

Clavis Cularlus:

May-ann Evardone Godezano, no offense to your tips, ha. But writers can write in any means and ways. They can also promote their stories hanggat gusto nila. Siguro ako, yung black tips from me is to promote your story in the comment section of a story. That disrespects the writer of the story you commented. As a writer, you must think of the most strategic way you can to promote your story in the market. Follow in exchange of follow is not bad. Limitting your word count isn't bad either. Use the "vote and comment" banner is the same.

Sa side ko, I write more on Facebook. I am haunting for readers on Facebook para madaling makapag-promote ng story sa Wattpad since mas maraming user na nakakalat sa FB. And my strategy isn't bad at all. Wouldn't consider it as one. Parte ng pagiging writer ang pagiging entrepreneur. Be smart enough to market your story WITHOUT harming or disrespecting others' story.

Ruster Henze Knightlord:

Sa promotion ng story at panghahakot ng reads, I don't think it's being desperate. For me, having my story live in other people's mind aside from mine is like letting my characters live more, so I think that the more people who read my story is also sharing the lives of my characters. So I don't think na maduming tip ang sinabi mong pag-promote at ang read for read. Promotion is a must, at depende na lang sa diskarte ng magpo-promote 'yon.

May-ann Evardone Godezano:

'Yong black tips ay para makahakot agad ng reads sa madaling paraan. Kasi sa read for read, hindi naman sa masama iyon pero hindi ba ginagawang obligue ang readers kapag nagpapa-read for read ka kasi kung may magbabasa talaga ng akda mo may magbabasa niyan. Pero kung gusto ng faster way ng pag-gain nga ng reads, edi mag-read for read.

Ruster Henze Knightlord:

I get it na sa circumstance na yan ay parang nagiging may pagka-forceful at hindi sincere ang pagbabasa. Well, kung ang purpose is para makapanghakot lang talaga ng number of reads at maipakita na high ang statistics nito, parang gano'n na nga. Pero doing a read for read isn't always like that. Take it like you're doing a beta testing o kaya free taste ng product mo para manghikayat ng talagang sincere customer at para sa feedback nila. Using a read to read kind of promotion is like doing a give and take relationship (which is a nature of this world), but you can also gain sincere readers, not because binasa mo yung gawa niya, pero dahil nagustuhan niya ang gawa mo. That's why I'm saying it's not really being desperate. Just depending on the person.

May-ann Evardone Godezano:

Depende pa rin talaga sa intensyon. Kung ganyan iyan para sa'yo para sa iba hindi, I respect that.
