Shortly after Sherlock and Maya had finished their dinner, John and Mary turned up on the doorstep.
After a brief argument where Maya insisted that she sleep on the sofa bed and John and Mary take the soon to be her room, she was shouted down and retreated, exhausted, to her new room.
She could hear Sherlock, John and Mary talking in the main lounge of 221b but Maya was too tired to worry whether they were discussing her or not. She looked about the dingy room. It had once, according to Sherlock, belonged to John but it appeared long since lived in.
She looked at her small rucksack. She had money and decided she would have to buy some new clothes soon. She didn't have anything, one change of outfit, a photograph of her as a baby and a card which had money that her mother had left her. There was not much however, she would have to make it last for a while.
She rested her head on the thin pillow. It was comfortable but not luxurious. She knew Sherlock was rolling in money and didn't understand why he didn't patch up his home a bit. Perhaps he would now that she was staying here. Or maybe he'd allow her to do something with the flat. She fell asleep quickly and very deeply after that, dreaming of the new life she's soon be having. She didn't even notice Sherlock running into her room to check she hadn't been kidnapped after a bad dream he'd had at 1am...
The following morning, Maya was up and dressed by 7:30am. Sherlock was still sound asleep so she ate breakfast before cleaning the lounge and kitchen. she didn't even hesitate at the severed head sat neatly in the fridge.
Finally at 11am Sherlock surfaced from his bedroom looking dreary eyed and exhausted.
"Maya" he called wearily searching for her
"Sherlock" she called back. "I'm in here"
He stumbled into the lounge to see Maya curled in her chair reading a book.
"You called me Sherlock." He said
"Sorry. I didn't want to be awkward- would you prefer dad or Sherlock?"
He pondered for a few seconds, evidentially deciding where he wanted to go from here.
"Dad" he said affirmatively. Then "where'd John and Mary go?"
"Work. They left as soon as I woke up."
Sherlock nodded and sat down to eat.
"I'm going out" said Maya s few minutes later. I want to meet people, make friends.
"Okay be careful though" Maya gave him a thumbs up in response and headed for the door. Suddenly however, she popped her head back around the wall.
"Do you have anything I could use as a coat? It looks like it's about to snow!"
"Take mine" said Sherlock "it's hanging up.
So Maya left 221b wearing her clothes and her fathers long black overcoat...
