"code red. code red. square groupers! square groupers!" jj started panicking as he saw lights in the distance
"go! go!" kie whispered, pushing everyone the hide behind the crypt
"you know what? fuck this" mikaela said as she grabbed kie's hand and started to run away from the lights
"guys, i'm stuck!" pope yelled after everyone else had climbed over the fence
"don't move, bro" jj said as he pointed a gun at him
"hey, dicks for brains, are you dumb? c'mon" mikaela pushed the gun down and started to drag jj with him to the van
they managed to drive off just as the guards arrived at the closed gate
back at john b's place, he finally opened the envelope and found a map with a tape recorder with a message from his missing father
after the recording ended, john b stood up and started sobbing so kie and mikaela went to comfort him
they went outside to the pier to discuss on how everyone would spent their money until everyone raised a toast to 'going full kook'
the following day the gang went to the hotel to use the computers to find out where the royal merchant exactly was
"hurry, i'll keep a lookout" mikaela ushered her friends inside the room as she stayed behind the doors, making sure no one found out about their plans
minutes passed by and mikaela was getting bored, playing on her phone and leaning against the door frame until she heard a voice next to her
"hey, mikaela"
"ugh, what do you want" she asked with an eye roll
"nothing, just wondering what you're doing here"
"that's none of your business, rafe" she faked a smile at him
"okay, okay, fine" he said with his hands in the air before looking behind her and seeing her friends in the room
"why do you hang out with those pogues?" he questioned
"why the fuck do you care?" mikaela said with a why-haven't-you-left-already look on her face
"you're a kook, like me. you should be with someone of your own people, like, come hang out with me someday" rafe suggested with a shy smirk
"really, rafe? 'your own people'?" mikaela said, closing her eyes to block him out, not even trying to argue with the boy
"you know what? sure, i'll do that sometime. you should leave now before i change my mind" mikaela lied, knowing it was the only way to get rid of him
"really? okay, i'll see you around" the boy smiled excitedly before leaving
"what did he want?" jj suddenly appeared next to mikaela, surprising her slightly
"don't worry, i got rid of him" she smiled at him
"be careful, he's never up to any good" jj warned
"and you are?" mikaela smirked with raised eyebrows
jj only chuckled and winked at her before throwing his arm around her shoulders as they left
mikaela watched the boys running through the gate to the salvage yard as kie was keeping the guard busy.
she was sitting in the car and since she was supposed to act normal, she decided to give skyler a call to see if she was still acting out
"hey, sky. i just wanted to let you know that, that- i don't wanna fight with you. what you did was shitty, but im trying to be the bigger person here" mikaela said after skyler had picked up
"i know mickey, and i'm sorry. i've just been upset after i broke up with steve" skyler said, mentioning her ex-boyfriend of five years
"i understand, but please don't take it out on me" mikaela sighed
"i'll try my best" skyler chuckled before continuing
"and i know you're going to ask, so yes, i stopped texting jj and yes, i was doing it to annoy you so sorry about that, i can be a little bitchy" skyler finished with a laugh as mikaela joined her
"i- shit. sorry sky, gotta go, i'll see you later" mikaela told her when she saw the guard running and kie jumped into the car and started to drive
if only mikaela had seen the evil smirk on skylers face after finishing the call
as the night fell, the group was enjoying a meal in kie's dad's restaurant, mikaela watching kie and john b dancing along the music
john b grabbed mikaelas hand to pull her up to join them as she chuckled, grabbing a few fries with her
one of her favorite songs started to play when she felt hands on her hips and looked to her left to see jj smiling down at her, swinging his hips in the same rhythm with her
jj then took her hand in his and spun her around a few times, making her laugh, before he pulled her against him, chest to chest
"didn't know you had the moves" she joked at him, trying to cover her nervousness from the closeness of their bodies
"you should see my other moves" jj whispered with a wink
she just stayed silent and the two of them just stared longingly into each other's eyes as they danced slowly to the music, both smiling
they looked at each other a little too long for them to be just friends
mikaela saw the disappointment in jj's eyes when she was pulled from him by john b, him taking his turn to dance with her as kie made her way to jj
but she didn't say anything, she just enjoyed the moment with her friends
after a night well slept, mikaela was helping pope and jj deliver some groceries for pope's father
jj had just jumped on the boat to find out that topper and rafe had jumped pope
"i'm gonna kill them" mikaela muttered
"i have a better idea" pope said, keeping his eyes forward and driving to a specific location
"2020 malibu, 24-mxc. the world finest wakesetter" pope said, all three of them looking at toppers boat
"this is war. they hit us, we hit them" jj said before pulling a bandana over his face and giving mikaela an identical one
"do it" mikaela told pope as he removed his shirt and jumped in the water
she watched pope climb in the boat and remove the plug and swim back
"you're a fucking badass, p" mikaela smirked before they left the scene
as the next day rolled by, the five friends drove to the spot where the royal merchant was supposed to be.
kie was lowering the ROV into the water with pope monitoring through the screen, john b jumping around impatiently
mikaela was with jj at the wheel
the weather was getting significantly worse as every minute passed by and mikaela was getting nervous.
she loved storms, but hated being in water during them since that's how her parents had passed
the boat was rocking almost violently and mikaela had a hard time keeping her balance
jj was busy trying to keep the boat in place, but he didn't miss mikaelas nervousness
"hey, mickey, we're gonna be alright, come here" jj said calmly to her, offering his hand to her which she gladly took
jj pulled her into his arms, trying to hold her close while also steering the boat
everyone was getting anxious about the approaching storm, jj shouting at john b, asking if they're seeing anything
mikaela turned her head back to see john b smiling at the monitor, knowing they had indeed found it
"we did it, we found it" mikaela muttered, smiling at jj
he looked shocked for a moment before smiling and kissing mikaela
on top of her head
