And then the dark period in our relationship came
Marked by the rainy season which coincidentally occurred
And as our trials settled like those dark grey clouds,
Looming above us,
We realized we no different from the trees,
With stares as cold as the wind blowing hard against our skins,
And questions that pelted down like rain on our backs
Seeping through our cracks,
And the two combined perfectly, and plotted to uproot us entirely,
And at the end of it all,
When the rains had come and gone,
And the tree had been stripped of its leaves,
We too remained exposed,
Bare limbs and branches,
A shadow of what we used to be,
Shuddering in the cold.
