Tried feet, dirty hair, and old clothes.

That's what life is like after a 20-hour overnight shift for surgical resident Lexie Grey. She pulls off her day-old scrubs and shrugs on a Harvard sweatshirt with some sweatpants. Most doctors leave the hospital in classic work attire, but after the day she's had, Lexie doesn't care what she leaves this building in, as long as it isn't scrubs.

A year ago Lexie left Seattle Grace Mercy West. After a plane crash killed the love of her life, Mark Sloan, she needed a change. Lexie was also involved in the crash, it was the worst 6 months of her life, to say the least.

After being in a plane crash and watching Mark die, Lexie didn't know how to function anymore. She was completely broken. She couldn't go to work every day because the hospital reminded her too much of Mark, so when offered a spot as a surgical resident at the University of Virginia hospital, she got out of Seattle. Sure she misses Meredith and everyone else, but she just couldn't be there anymore. She liked Virginia, she'd been at the hospital for about a year now. She had a few close friends and called Meredith and her other family when she could.

She walked out of the hospital and into the cold November air. There was almost a foot of snow on the ground, which means the ER was slammed all day and night. Lexie was looking forward to her next three days off. She knew exactly where she was going, her favorite coffee shop/library, Book and Joe. She loved it there, she could drink her coffee and read a book without her roommate bothering her. She usually had a book with her but she had just finished the latest book she was reading and needed a new book to dive into.

She entered the shop and ordered her favorite drink, black coffee with four pumps of cream. After her drink was ordered she browsed the shelves for a book that piqued her interest. She turned the counter of a huge bookshelf and was met with a hard wall, or at least she thought it was a wall.

"Damn" she muttered under her breath.

She looked up to see the 'wall' that she ran into only to be met with two chocolate brown eyes.

"Oh I-I'm so sorry" she apologized.

The man she ran into was tall and a bit lanky. He had short brown hair that was longer in the front. His eyes were kind and warm. Lexie couldn't help but think about how attractive this man is.

"No worries." the man responded with a straight smile. Lexie didn't want to leave this man's company just yet, so she panicked.

"I'm Lexie, Lexie Grey" she stuttered out. She wanted to talk more to this man she so abruptly met.

"Spencer Reid" he introduced himself, he sounded nervous. She noticed he didn't try to shake her hand, which Lexie was grateful for, shaking hands spreads way too many germs.

"I don't shake, it's so unsanitary, kissing spreads fewer germs" Spencer spoke so casually.

The first thing Spencer noticed about this girl was her beauty. Her long dark hair and big brown eyes fit her pale skin so nicely. She sounded nervous when she spoke, which didn't bother Spencer, he was also nervous. It had only been a year since Maeve died, he hasn't spoken to a girl like Lexie since.

"Exactly!" she spoke with a smile on her face. "I also don't shake, I can't be sick, people's lives depend on my health." she chuckled.

"I understand that," Spencer spoke. Lexie was so interested in Spencer, she could tell he was smart, brilliant maybe.

"Do you want to sit?" Lexie asked.

Spencer muttered a sure and they sat at a booth in the coffee shop, they seemed to talk for hours. Every time Lexie would mention a fact or static Spencer liked her more and more, she was like him. She was brilliant and she had a photographic memory. Spencer could listen to her all day, her voice was strangely calm.

"Wow, it's almost 2:00," Lexie said looking down at her watch.

"Do you have somewhere to be?" She asked looking up at Spencer, he was quite a bit taller than her. Spencer shook his head in response.

"Wanna grab a late lunch?" he asked. Lexie responded smiling.
