Luckily John B had only sustained minor injuries after his fall, which included a couple scratches and a broken arm. With that said, the boy was quickly released from the hospital. But to everyone's surprise, John B didn't head home after his departure. The Cameron's had invited him to stay in their "beloved" home.
Bondi rolled her eyes at the very thought. In Kiara's defense, Bondi was still hesitant to trust the Sarah girl. However, feelings pushed aside, Bondi couldn't forget the fact that the girl had indeed helped. If it wasn't for Sarah getting the survey map, the group wouldn't have found the gold. Which just so happened to be on the frightening Crain Property.
Some would even say the property was spine chilling. For years, urban legends and conspiracies were made about what happned inside the ancient looking house. No one knew the exact true, yet Bondi never took the myths lightly. Ever since a kid both JJ and Bondi especially believed in all the horrific theories that drifted along the outer banks.
Pulling up to the Crain Property, the Pogues began to loose their cool. However, the group of friends eventually gained the courage to get out of the van. Which John B had parked on the side of the road, in front of the stone wall they looked for in Parcel mine.
"Are you kidding me?" Kiara groaned.
"Worst case scenario," JJ muttered as he looked the tall broken, down house up and down.
"Just looking at it makes me get the chills," Bondi stated with a frown.
Pope sighed in annoyance, shaking his head while they all stared ahead at the old home. "Why'd it have to be here? Of all places?"
"I heard that Mrs. Crain buried her husbands head on the property," JJ tells the group in a serious manner. Bondi's eyes widen a fraction. "Did you guys bring the salt?"
Kiara, Pope, and John B all give her confused glances, as JJ hands the girl a small jar of salt from his pocket.
"Better to be safe than sorry. There could be ghosts," Bondi voiced to the group before she scurried off into the greenery courtyard, that lead to the horrific house.
JJ laughed as he followed her steps while the other friends tagged along.
"Honestly I don't really believe the stories of this place," John B admitted. Quickly turning around, Bondi threw the boy a sharp glare.
Stepping over multiple branches, the two nervous blondes made their way over to Kiara's side.
"What stories did you hear?" JJ asked Kie.
"The one where she killed her husband with an axe and she's been holed up ever since. On certain nights when the moon is full...you can see her in the window!" Kiara teased.
Bondi rolled her eyes, nudging the girls shoulder, annoyed that only her and JJ truley believed. "No it's not funny cause it's all true. I swear to god guys, this is all real. Bondi and I knew Hollis Crain, jeez!"
The gang turned around in shock as they gave their two friends a look of disbelief. "Wait, you guys knew Hollis Crain?"
Bondi and JJ nod while they give each other frightened glances. "Yeah dude," JJ muttered.
Pope stepped forward with his eyes wide, "how do you guys know Hollis Crain?"
"She was our babysitter, dude. She told us about it," Bondi started.
"Yup, told us the truth about her mother and what happned in this house. So as a kid she heard all the stories that her mother killed her father and she was a murderer and all. Hollis didn't beleive it. Until that night."
John B furrowed his brows, "what night?"
"It all came back to her," Bondi said with a nervous frown, as she made eye contact with John B.
"When Hollis was six years old she heard her parents arguing downstairs. So she goes downstairs to see her mom washing her hands in a sink...full of blood. Her mother just says that she cut her finger. The next morning she says her father and her split up. But then Hollis noticed something," JJ stated.
"Her mother going into the parlor constantly in and out and in and out, with plastic bags. Weeks pass and Hollis decides to use the outhouse. And as she's using it, she looks down and there in the outhouse is her fathers head looking straight back at her," the boy finished. Bondi nodded along.
"God you are so full of shit," John B shook his head.
Bondi scoffed, "I swear he is telling the truth."
"Did she call the police?"
JJ shook his head as John B started to continue walking. "She didn't have time — Wait hold on!" He rushed after John B all while Bondi pulled him on the back of his shirt. "You sure you wanna do this? She's an axe murderer man. You got a cast on."
"I don't give a shit if she's an axe murderer okay?" John B explained. "I got nothin to lose right? You comin or what?"
Bondi sighed, looking up at the house. Seeing her start to freak, JJ placed a hand on her small shoulder. "It will be fine."
"Promise?"
"Promise."
With that, the group began to inch their way closer to the house. Making sure they ducked down, not wanting Mrs.Crain to see them. John B suddenly stopped in the middle of the courtyard a few feet away from the house before whispering to his friends. "Hey come here, come here. So here's the plan. We need to look for wheat near the water like it said in Denmark's letter," John B whispered.
"Okay like what kind of water," Pope asked. "Like pond water?"
JJ chuckled under his breath, "bong water?"
Bondi stifled a laugh at the comment, while the rest of the group gave him an annoyed stare. John B sighed, "no it — it just said look for water okay?"
"Thats the shittiest secret message ever," Kiara voiced before walking off.
"You wanna complain a little more Kie?" John B retorts. "Nobody said it was gonna be easy."
"Okay Bondi and I will search the northeast quadrant, you search the northwest quadrant," Pope instructed before he and Bondi went off.
"The decapitation quadrant!" JJ corrected Pope.
Bondi turned around, "do you want me to come with you? I could be your knight in shining armor?"
JJ cracked a smile but before he could respond, John B was yelling for them. "Hey come on! It's the only place we haven't looked."
Bondi ran over with JJ behind as they approached John B kneeling down in front of an open hatch, that was attached to the basement.
Hearing a bunch of shuffling and flapping birds, Bondi glanced back at JJ who was currently waving his arms like a maniac. "You alright?"
JJ blushed, "um...birds."
Bondi giggled at the boy. However, before she had the chance to make fun of JJ, John B was once again yelling for their attention. John B stepped through the hatch first with Kiara and Pope following. Bondi followed and JJ came behind. Once they were inside, Bondi looked around. The place was covered in dirt, dust, and bugs.
"Down came Mrs. Crain and cut off all our heads," JJ sang as Bondi hopped down off the crawl space. "Up came the sun and dried up all the blood."
"Can you stop?" Pope exclaimed.
Bondi patted JJs arm. "I thought the song had a good ring to it."
JJ chuckled before they went back to searching for water. Yet the group never found any. There were no sign of water what so ever. It was mainly filled by old babydolls and tiny cribs that were covered webs.
"See any water?" Kiara questioned. "Another dead end?"
JJ ran his hand over the pipes along the wall, "there's not even water in the pipes."
Pope nodded, "there's no water here."
JJ blew a breath of air, "not a dropamino."
In response Bondi coughed, "there may not be water, but this place is lathered with dust."
"Know why we didn't find it?" Kiara asked. Bondi turned her head slowly, preparing herself for and argument to erupt. She knew Kiara like the back of her hand. She wasn't going to let the Sarah situation go so easily. "Bad karma."
"Oh god here we go," John B sighed.
"You know we had a good thing going. And then you decide to rope in Barbie and now the trails gone dry. Coincidence? Probably not."
"This is exactly why I didn't wanna tell you about Sarah," John B replied stepping closer to Kie. "What the hells the deal? What the hells going on with you two?"
Kira shrugged, "nothing."
"Nothing? Is it because I kissed you? Is that the problem?"
Kiara slapped John B hard across the face. Bondi's eyes widened, "oh damn! I could feel that from here," she muttered rubbing her cheek grimacing, towards John Bs direction.
Pope and JJ wore similar expressions, their eyes wide as their jaws dropped. "Oh shit! That echoed dude."
"Stop treating me like some girl that's obssessed with you, instead of your bestfriend who is actaully trying to look out for you," Kira snapped.
"Did you uh...hit me?" John B muttered.
Kiara held up her hand, "skeeter."
"Skeeter?"
Kiara nodded as she glances at her hand. "Yeah you see it?"
"Yeah," John B nodded before slapping Kiara across the face, but not nearly as hard.
Bondi's eyes once again widen, "alright, although I love violence thats enough."
"Oh hey!" Pope hissed.
"Okay...no," JJ shook his head.
"Where's your proof," Kiara asked.
John B held up his hand, while Kiara shined a flashlight at the area. Which showed that he had killed a mosquito, "skeeter."
The two of them proceeded to lightly slap each other, claiming there was a mosquito. Bondi chuckled at the two who were now joking with each other. She loved her friends for that. They would fight, then two seconds later would make up.
Looking over she was met with JJ and Pope getting attacked by mosquitos. "Why are there so many mosquitos in a basement?"
Bondi smaked herself in the face and glanced at her hand as she was met with a dead bug, "got you motherfucker."
"Dude I know seriously. Tiny vampire bats just won't leave me alone," JJ agreed. "Oh my gosh! Can we leave? Cause I'm already itchin to leave. Hah. Punny."
Bondi chuckled as she slapped JJs arm, killing yet another mosquito. "Thats comedy gold."
Popes brows furrowed as he stomped on the raised section of the basement. The group helped remove the pieces of wood, revealing a brick wall. Leaning over, the friends shine their flashlights in a dark, deep well.
Pope smirked, "well, well, well."
"Awesome dad joke."
Kira shook her head, "they built this part of the house right over it."
"This is where she hid the bodies," JJ explained before wrapping his arms around a concerned Bondi.
"She probably doesn't even know it's here," Kiara argued.
"So...we found water," Pope uttered sharing a smile with John B.
The boy smirked, "we're gonna need a really big rope."
"All in favor for renaming our group the goonies," Bondi voiced as the whole group laughed in excitement. Their adventure just began.
