I woke up to a dark room. I looked around forgetting where I was at for a split second then realizing I was in the Russo's basement.

I turned on my phone to see that it was three in the morning. I rubbed my eyes and made my way up the staircase.

At least, I can have a few minutes to myself. I went around the counter and began making myself a turkey sandwich with mayonnaise.

I sat at an empty table and started eating. There was a noise that I heard on the stairs coming down.

I froze in my place only to realize it was footsteps. I looked up to see Mrs. Russo walking down them.

She looked at me and whispered, "Jess, what do you think you are doing?"

I said with my mouth full, "Eating a sandwich."

She had really awful bed head.

"Really? At this early in the morning?"

I shrugged my shoulders as I went down for another bite. I was really hungry so why not?

She sat down at my table with me, "Okay, what's going on?"

I gave her a confused look and asked, "What do you mean? I'm doing great."

She gave me one of those mom looks. I get them all the time from my mom, and it just tells me that she isn't buying what I'm selling.

I sighed, "I like someone but recently they've become so distant from me. I don't know what to do."

She put her hand over mine, "Well to start, any boy would be lucky to have you. You should just sit down and talk with him."

I smiled, "Yeah, that's what Harper said to. I guess I'm just scared to see what he says."

She said to me, "You never know. One day something great could come out of all this."

"Thanks, Mrs. Russo, for everything, and I'm really sorry for waking you up. I just have a lot on my mind at the moment."

"I understand. Now, you better go back to sleep because you have school in a few more hours."

She was right because today is Monday. The first day of the week. When I woke up for a second time this morning, I was really sleepy.

I skipped breakfast and decided to go to school early. I can't believe this is my last year of highschool. It feels like it was yesterday when I was in seventh grade walking these halls for the first time.

When I walked into the school building, I saw Ivy standing by her locker. At least, I had someone to talk to this morning.

"Hey, Ivy, what are you doing here so early?" She turned her head while pushing up her glasses and looked at me.

"I was just hanging some posters up around school. Mr. Laritate got it approved this morning."

I looked up at the poster she just got done hanging. It said at the top, "FALL DANCE THIS FRIDAY!" and then at the bottom it read, "GIRLS ASK GUYS."

She shook her head, "I know it says girls ask guys, but I find that to be very annoying. I mean what if I want a guy to ask me?"

I smiled at her, "Ivy, is there somebody you want to ask to the dance?"

Her cheeks turned a little red as she tried denying it, "No, I wouldn't want to go to this dance anyways."

I raised an eyebrow, "Are you sure? It could be fun."

"Well, I would only go with Max Russo. He's the coolest guy in my grade."

I didn't even know she was a few grades behind me. That explains why she's not in any of my classes.

My eyes lit up and my smile got bigger, "It just so happens that I am currently living with the Russos. I could talk to him if you want."

She shook her head, "No, please don't. I already get tongue tied enough when I'm around him."

Oh, I am definitely talking to him about it later.

However, I tell her, "Sure, whatever you say."

She looked at me, "So, is there somebody that you plan on asking?"

I sighed looking at the poster, "Maybe there is."

She asked, "What's his name?"

"His name is-"

Before I even got a chance to say anything, people start coming in the halls. Saved by the..students.

Harper and Alex soon came to where we were standing.

Harper looks up, "Oooh, Alex, the fall dance! It's finally here."

Alex looks up at the poster to, "Harper, please. You know my dad is not going to let me go. I'm grounded remember?"

I spoke up, "I didn't know that. Why are you grounded?"

She turned around, "Because I keep getting detention."

I have used that excuse before to. I wonder if there was more to the story. However, I didn't feel like pressuring her.

Harper says to me, "Oh yeah I forgot about that. Anyways, Jess, do you think you'll be going?"

I shrugged, "It's girls ask guys, so maybe I will. Who knows?"

Justin and I still have a lot of stuff to work out. If I was going to ask anybody to this dance, it would be him.

I look over towards his locker to see him and Zeke talking and laughing. My smile returns. Why does he have to be so cute?

Harper speaks up, "Well, I'm going to try my best and ask Zeke to the dance."

I started laughing, "Wait, you're going to ask Zeke? Seriously? Harper, really?"

"What? What's so funny about me asking him to the dance. I know nobody else has a crush on him, and I am kind of starting to like him."

Wow, who would have thought that she would settle for Justin's best friend.

Alex groans, "Ugh, this is so unfair. I wish I could just ask Mason to the dance."

I look up at her, "Who's Mason?"

Harper rolled her eyes, "The new guy that just transferred to our school. He's in our art class."

Alex shushed her, "I really really like him, Harper."

I asked her, "Wait, what happened to Riley?"

She shrugged, "Eh, we broke up last week. He started calling me jealous."

Well, that relationship didn't last long. I looked back towards Justin and Zeke.

Zeke started heading to class early and I left my conversation with Harper and Alex to see him.

He closed his locker just as I walked up, "Hey, Justin."

He looked at me, "Oh hey, Jess. Do you need something?"

"Actually, I was hoping we could talk. Maybe whenever you're not busy?"

The bell rings, "Sorry, Jess, I'm gonna have to get to class. I'll see you around though."

I watch him take off down the hall past me. Thanks for listening.

I walk to my History class with my head hanging low. I was so confused about so many things. Should I even ask Justin to go to the dance with me?

Suddenly, I feel a tap on my shoulder.

I look over to see Nick sitting beside me. He joined our school last year.

He has blond hair and really really dark blue eyes. He's always wearing a tie, and I've actually heard he's bad.

Somehow, I always fall for the bad kids. Well, except for Justin. Damon was a bad kid well before we started dating.

I was the one that actually turned him good.

Nick whispers to me, "Hey, Jess."

I give him a small smile and whisper back to him, "Hi, Nick."

He keeps whispering, "You wanna go to the fall dance with me?"

"I thought it was a girls ask guys kind of thing?"

"Oh it is, but I wanted you to ask me and I didn't know if you were going to."

I whispered, "Well, I'm very flattered, but I think I'm going to ask somebody else. I'm really sorry though."

He shook his head, "It's no big deal. Anyone would be lucky enough to go with you."

What he said put a smile on my face. Nick and I haven't really talked much, but I was definitely surprised that he wanted to go with me.

The rest of the day I was trying to find some time to talk with Justin alone. I felt as though he was avoiding me.

The last bell rings as I walk towards him, "Hey, Justin, wait up. Can we talk?"

"Can it wait? I have to get to my Alien language club in the gym. We have a new member."

I grabbed his arm as he tried to walk off, "Actually, it can't wait this is important to me."

He stops, "Okay, what's up?"

"I need to know if you still feel the same way about me. If you don't then just tell me. It feels as if you're avoiding me, and I don't really know why."

"Yes, I have been avoiding you lately. I'm sorry about that. It's just that I don't know if I'm ready to start dating again. My girlfriend-ex girlfriend, Juliette, well she was taken away. I haven't seen her since."

"I'm so sorry, Justin. Why didn't you tell me?"

"I don't know I was just worried because I do still feel the same way about you."

I smiled, "That's great because I wanted to ask you if you would come with me to the fall dance."

He sighed, "I'm sorry, Jess, I would love to it's just I've already said yes to somebody else."

My heart dropped to the pit of my stomach. Of course, I was too late.

"You better get to your meeting you don't want to be late."

"Jess, I-"

"I have to go anyways, so I guess I'll just see you at home."

I began to walk off towards the parking lot. I tried to process everything that he told me, but it was all too much to handle.

"Hey, Jess, are you okay?" I turned around to see Nick getting out of his truck.

"Oh yes, I'm fine."

All of a sudden it hit me.

"Hey, by any chance would you still want to go with me to the dance this Friday?"

He smiled, "Really, I've already said yes to somebody else, but don't worry I'll tell them I've changed my mind."

"Wait, Nick, you really don't have to do that." I'd feel bad if he turned someone away for me, but it would feel great to show him off to Justin.

"No, don't worry about it. I would much rather go with you anyways."

I smile back at him, "Well, great I can't wait."

"I have to get to my new Alien Language club in the gym. I'm going to go make fun of all of them and eat their food, but I'll text you when it's over."

"Okay, great."

I wasn't lying before. I really couldn't wait for this dance to come. Nick is actually a really cute guy, and I bet he would even make Justin a little jealous.

Only time will tell.
