Jasmine.
I push the door open and step in. The room is silent except for the beeping of the machine beside the bed.

"Oh,good morning. Hope I'm not interrupting anything?" I ask the nurse. He nods at me before walking out without a word. Weird. I place the shopping bag on the table and walk to Evie's bed. She should be up anytime now,the doctor had said, much to my relief. A knock sounds just as I pull the chair and sit beside the bed.

"Miss Morgan. Morning. I'll just check her vitals," the nurse smiles. What?

"Er...I think someone else just did that."

"No. I'm specifically assigned to Evie here. It won't take long." Who was that then?  Someone was here disguised as a nurse, and I... fuck! I run out of the room and along the hallways, looking around desperately but it's all clear. He could not have gone far,he has to be somewhere here. I walk to the elevator and urgently press the button. I have to call Nicole.

"Jasmine? When did you get here? We just went to grab a drink," Curly smiles as she and Jon step out of the elevator.

"Someone was in her room,Curly. Did you meet anyone on your way here? He was dressed as a nurse."

"Jas,this is a hospital; of course I met a number of nurses on my way up. I wouldn't tell who's fake and who's not." She's right. I sigh exasperatedly. " How about you check the CCTV footage?" She pulls me back into the room. I nod.

"Have you had anything to eat?" I ask Jon.

"Yeah, but I'm hungry again," he says with a frown.

"Look, here's a box of cereal. And milk too. Curly will make you some,I just need to make a call okay?" He nods.

I pick my phone from the table and step out of the room.
Nicole answers her phone on the third ring. I was half expecting her to throw a fuss about coming over, but she didn't. I sit talking to Curly about moving to the new apartment as we wait for her.

I had been moving all my life;always running away from something or someone. The first time was when Ruby and I had to find a way out of the hospital. We were escaping the possible wrath of the group of child traffickers that had abducted us. I was eleven when we first met.

Ruby had run away from her foster family  when she was kidnapped. I, on the other hand, had woken up to find myself with a group of girls in the back of a truck. Most of them were slightly older than me. I would cry all the time, calling for my mum.

Ruby was the only one who really put up with my constant whining. On the night that we were to be transported to our new home, the truck got into an accident involving several cars, among them a truck transporting petroleum. Most of the girls lost their lives, others were forever physically scarred by the explosion.

I must have had my head hit when the explosion happened, she'd said, because when I woke up in the hospital I couldn't remember a thing. Since Ruby was determined on not ending up in another foster home and she, I quote,  'couldn't just leave me alone', she decided to take me with her. Wherever she was, there I'd be also.

We survived life in the streets for a few days before calling it quits and having ourselves taken into a children's home. That way we'd have food and a place to sleep.

You had to leave when you turned eighteen though, and again, she took me with her since she was a year older than me. She managed to land a job at a diner in town. The crib we moved into was not in the best part of the city, but we made do with it.

She was the only family I knew. The only person I trusted with my life.

We were not connected by blood or anything. Heck,we didn't even know each other before we found ourselves in those trafficker's hands, but she still showed me that you can have family that ain't blood. And I think we all deserve someone like that in our lives. Someone who's willing to stand by you as you weather the storms life throws at you... a partner to stand by you as you battle your demons and strive through life.

Everything was smooth, until she met Hanson. We had even moved to a better neighborhood and were both working. He was almost ten years older than her and on a business meeting at the restaurant where she worked as a waitress.

Their little affair led to the conception of Evie, Hanson's unwanted child. She knew nothing about him, except his name. The child was a threat to his name and reputation, and had to be gotten rid of.

We had to move, for the sake of Ruby and the unborn Evie's lives. His threats had dealt their portion on us. The one mistake we made this time was to move to the very city where Hanson lived. Together with his wife and child. Nicole Hanson, or Mrs Hanson,if you wish.

That's where the connection between us comes in. He has no reason to want the child back now. For all I know,he may even be the one who set the club where ruby had been working on fire. Its high time I found out what really happened that night.

Unknown POV.
"Will you stop pacing? You're getting on my nerves!"

"Oh just shut up!" She retorts. "She almost fucking found you! You were this close to blowing your fucking cover!" My God! For such a beauty, she has the tongue of  a sailor. I take out a cigarette and light it,blowing the smoke in her face. She cringes angrily.

"Calm down, she didn't see my face." She makes a 'hmph' sound and glares at me. I could tell that she was getting angry and impatient. She can't be mad; she can't be anything that's the opposite of happy. That's my mission in life.

"I'm sorry, okay? I really am. It won't happen again. And on the bright side, the kid should be up anytime now."

"Yeah?" She beams. I can almost see the love and enthusiasm dripping off her voice. I smile.

"Of course. Jasmine's taking real good care of her."

"It's your fault she's in that state anyway, scumbag." It was an accident.

"Yes,your Highness. I'm the biggest most fattest scumbag alive, and I apologize for that," I bow dramatically.

"You're lucky I love you. And I think it's now safe to commence? We're doing this, right?"

"The time is indeed nigh," I say and a sly smile marks her angelic perfect face.

"You know what to do." I nod. She smiles once again before walking off,her heels clanking noisily against the concrete floor.  "And quit smoking!" She calks out.

I put out the cigarette and take the flight of stairs to my room. Fumbling with the keys,I whistle absently and open the door. My eyes fall on the array of suits lined up in the walk-in closet. There's enough to last me two lifetimes. I pick a black tux and get a pair of black matching shoes

A few minutes later, I walk out of the bathroom and quickly get dressed. I gel my hair and brush it back neatly then pick up the bunch of keys and walk back downstairs.

She's seated at the head of the dining table,a glass of wine in her hand. Sitting at the opposite end of the table,I let my eyes sweep over her face. Her lips are coated in a slightly dark shade of coral pink lipstick, accentuating and complimenting her pale skin tone.

Her small nose sits cutely at the centre of her face. Her grey eyes are cold, lacking the glow of excitement they'd held a while ago. Her brunette hair is pulled into a neat, tight bun at the top of her head and she stares unblinkingly at space, twirling the glass of wine absently.

"I'm set," I say in a low voice. Her eyes travel along the table and up to mine, then the corner of her lips curl up briefly.

She places the glass on the table and pushes back her chair before getting up. I do the same and stand waiting for her at my end of the table. Her scent clouds my senses, her body only centimeters away from mine.

When her soft palm touches my cheek,I shut my eyes and take a deep breath. My blood runs south and I groan in frustration. This is not the time, but fuck it!

She leans in slowly but I pull her to me eagerly, crushing my lips against her soft ones. She takes like pure, fine wine. Her hands grab my arms pulling me to her full chest as she kisses me back with equally fierce fervor.

Our lips dance in perfect blissful sync, speaking mountains about the love radiating between us. She bites onto my bottom lip, pulling at it with her teeth teasingly before releasing it and pulling back.

"I'll be waiting for you," she breathes against my neck, her palms flat against my chest.

"Wish me luck," I smirk. She kisses my cheek with a smile.

"It's all yours." Just then ,a car hoots outside and one of the househelps walks to us.

"Excuse me miss, sir. The driver from the Smith mansion is here."

"I'll see you soon," I smile at her and kiss her cheek then make my way out.
