it's quite calming, which sounds bad to say,
seeing how much we can devastate
our own planet, our own people.
when it's time to come together, of course we push others away.

and it's nothing new, i'm not foolish, i see this everyday.
but as the world burns we still can't let hatred fade.
and from outside my window,
i watch the colour in our earth get drained and go away.

i watch and sip tea and it gives me headaches.
i watch as today continues to be like yesterday.
and everyone's going to die.
so what's it matter anyways? we must all fall away.

can't we just get it in our brains?
we are the only ones who have to pay
for the devastation that we make rain.
i don't see this ever stopping, i don't see this walking away.

i leave my window as screams are shouted, another day.
another voice in the chorus,
another government to pay.
another group to attack as they try to hide away.

i realise now that it might be my birthday.
i think of cake as i walk along the stairway.
i try to ignore it, pretend to downplay
the thought of growing old in a world full of decay–

where everything normal must leave one day,
where everything normal may not stay,
where everything normal must go away.

the devastation (painted grey).
