Y/N grabbed a piece of pizza on the way out the door.

It had only been three days since she discovered her mark.

In that time she had managed to translate it and realized that nobody had said that to her that day.

She'd been careful to cover up her mark, knowing if anyone saw at work she was sure to be made to see a soulmark specialist, which she really didn't have the money for. Most of them were exposed as phonies in the end anyways.

Y/N didn't know what to do though. She had a soulmark on her neck. The words were ones that she hadn't heard since the incident at the airport, and they weren't even the first words that man had spoken to her.

There had been two known cases of delayed soulmarks, where the two people had not gotten their marks until a few hours after the encounter. A week later? There wasn't even an article seriously considering the possibility.

There were zero known cases of words other than the first spoken appearing.

Just as there were no known cases of marks appearing anywhere but the wrist, except in one story.

Y/N thought it was an absurd tale, but found herself buying and reading it anyways.

In the tale, a human boy discovered that his soulmate was a vampire girl, and that she had been born as a human who never received a soulmate. Because of the twisted vampire DNA that had preserved her life to his century, the mark had appeared weeks later, in identical font around their ankles.

It was absolutely absurd.

And she did NOT read it three times.

Certainly not.

Even if it was strangely relatable while they were confused and then searching for each other.

No way...

Jin looked up from the book he was reading that night when he realized it was missing.

He'd just reached up to grab his typical looking allergy medicine bottle and it was gone.

Setting aside "Soulmates of a Strange Century" he searched frantically for the unremarkable but terribly important bottle.

Finally, he found it.

On the floor underneath his bed, with the lid fallen off, his precious relief was spilled into the dust.

That wouldn't have been as big a deal, that could've been cleaned up.

It was the little tiny bugs that had eaten nicks and holes throughout every single one of them.

He hadn't been low, but now he was out.

Jin stared at them in the palm of his hand, and began to tremble.

He'd needed them now.

Dropping the now useless pills into the bottle and throwing it in the trash, he headed for the kitchen, thanking the stars that nobody else was up this late. Yoongi might have been, but he would be working in his room for certain even if he was.

Like a tracking missile honed to its target he silently got to the kitchen, grabbed the salt refill, and headed to the bathroom. When he entered, he locked the door and left the light off, hoping nobody would need to use it in the middle of the night and would just walk by.

He'd always taken his showers cold, and now he ran the bathwater the same icy temperature the guys had been surprised he could endure and poured the salt in, guesstimating how much he would need for the filled tub.

If he hadn't done this before simply because he missed home, he would've been a lot more concerned.

Once the tub was filled he sank in, sighing in relief as the chill slipped through his skin.

He was used to being warm, and even enjoyed the heat... But he missed the arctic-like chill sometimes.

At least he had a chance to soak before it started. Hopefully it would relieve the symptoms some...

It didn't do much.

Pain in his lungs, his arms, and his legs. Sharp, stabbing pains only vaguely relieved by the cold he had enveloped himself in.

Gritting his teeth, he sank fully into the water and stared at his hands, vision sharpened by the water although his eyes stung a bit from the chemicals.

The fluorescent green light cast from his eyes showed him the web forming between his fingers, and highlighting the patches of intricate blue scales gleaming to the surface of his skin for the first time in years.

Letting the air in his lungs escape, Jin watched the bubbles flee to the surface and breathed.

Y/N sat bolt upright, cold and pain washing over her.

Faint, but lingering pain.

Rolling over she grabbed her phone.

3 AM.

She never woke up this early.

She wrapped up in her blankets and tried to get back to sleep...

Then she finally sat up and sighed, reaching out to switch the lamp on above her and palming her book off of the nightstand beside her.

There was a part she wanted to read again anyways.

Certainly NOT for the eighth time.

Losing herself in "Soulmates of a Strange Century" she relived the thrills and adventures of the protagonist and his soulmate.

Without thinking she found herself tracing her fingers along the strange pattern of pain along her upper arm, over and over, hardly realizing what she was doing as she wrapped herself in a world that might not be so different from hers after all...

Y/N stopped suddenly.

She turned back a couple pages to affirm the thought that had just occurred to her.

Sure enough...

The heroes of the book that was NOT her new favorite could share certain, intense sensations.

Was her soulmate in pain?

It didn't make sense... This was a fictional book...

But then, nothing made sense anymore.

Maybe?
