Now as Cassie waits in Jason's office, she contemplated what she was going to do. Sure she wasn't fired yet but she was going to be and it took her months of job hunting to get a job that she actually liked. All she needs is a distraction.
"Hey, I guess you found out about your, demotion."
As far as distractions go, he'll do.
"Yep, sorry I was going to wait till you came back but"
"It's fine, I just went to grab the applications. So... how are you feeling"
"Me? I'm doing great."
"Oh, I just thought that"-
"I would be sad or something"
"Well, yeah actually."
They both have a softhearted laugh.
"Well, the way thing have been going, I'm getting used to it."
"Im sure things will get better."
Their eyes are stuck in a stare as if they understand each other's pain. Jason breaks the stare and pulls another chair and starts to go through the files.
"So these are the applicants and all we need to do is go to each one"
"And tell them that they're ineligible... great, that's going to feel good."
"I don't feel to good about it either but at least it's something. I don't know why they assigned me to this."
"Why is it below your pay grade?"
"Actually I think my skill set is a lot different to this, nothing to do with my pay grade."
Tense moment there but i'm sure Cassie is just frustrated and won't help with an idiot heading their way... Michael.
"Enjoying the new project then guys."
"We're just getting started"
"OH YOURE JUST GETTING STARTED, THAT'S GREAT. Listen I don't give a damn what you do Jason as long those files are done. Do I make myself clear?"
"Of course Michael."
"Excuse me?
"Sorry, MR MARULLO"
With that, Michael, leave and Cassie just looks at Jason.
"What?"
"Does he always talk to you that way"
"Well, yeah."
"Why? Yeah he's your boss but he has no right talking to you like that."
"Well I don't want to get on the wrong side of him, especially seeing what he did to you."
Cassie now extremely frustrated picks up her stuff and gets up from her seat.
"You know, I'm sure this isn't a job for 2 people, I'm sure you're capable of looking through files on your own knowing your "skill set". I'll see you tomorrow."
And Cassie leaves, emotionless, with no hope. She heads home looking for a something, anything at this point. A sign of what her hearts wants but it already knows.
