Episode 13 -
"Confront and Reconcile"
EXT - NICK'S DREAM
NICK is seen lying on a white floor. He opens his eyes and all he can see is white all around him. He slowly gets up and looks around. He still can't figure out where he is.
He walks looking in every direction trying to comprehend his surroundings but as far as he knows, he is in complete solitude.
He continues walking until a hand on his shoulder stops him.
NICK turns around to see CALVIN. He is looking at NICK with a very sarcastic smile. Nick can see the bullet wound he gave CALVIN.
CALVIN
Hello, old friend.
CALVIN chuckles, NICK looks at him in shock.
FEAR THE WALKING DEAD - INTRO
NICK is still in shock to see his friend, at least that's what he was to NICK before the apocalypse. But CALVIN showed himself to not be a very good friend when he tried to kill him.
CALVIN
You look like you saw a ghost..
CALVIN
Well, you technically are seeing a ghost.
CALVIN moves closer to NICK and takes NICK's hand. NICK is frightened by CALVIN's action.
CALVIN
You must have been blaming me for your
life going to shit, huh?
NICK
What makes you say that?
CALVIN
Well, the way you're looking at me right now gives that vibe.
NICK
My life was over the minute the world
went to shit.
NICK
Why are you here, Calvin?
CALVIN continues to laugh, hysterically. NICK looks at him, confused.
CALVIN
It's time for you to face your demons,
one and for all.
CALVIN
And apparently, you consider me one.
NICK
You haven't been in my mind for years, Cal.
CALVIN
You sure about that?
CALVIN pushes NICK.
NICK
What the hell did you do that for?
CALVIN
You don't care, do you? I mean, this is
just a dream.
NICK
Screw you.
NICK sighs.
NICK
Fine, I have been thinking more and
more about my past and how I screwed everything up.
CALVIN
According to you, it doesn't matter since the world's gone to shit.
CALVIN
So, why are you thinking about it?
NICK
I don't know. I... I feel like something's gonna happen, something that will tear us all apart.
NICK
And I want to be ready for it when it happens. Don't want to repeat the same mistakes twice.
CALVIN chuckles once more, loudly.
CALVIN
You've changed, Nick.
CALVIN
Not the same crazy asshole that I found in the streets back in California.
NICK looks down, and sighs. He looks back up again to see CALVIN looking at him, smiling.
NICK
I'm sorry I killed you.
CALVIN
It doesn't matter. I'm in a
less shitty place now.
CALVIN
Stop thinking about the past and start thinking about the present, Nick.
CALVIN
Because you're right, there's a storm coming.
CALVIN walks away into the void, fading away. NICK looks at him fading away, hearing CALVIN's warning loud and clearly.
INT - HALLWAY
JUNE and DWIGHT walk through the hallway together. They pass through countless rooms. DWIGHT tries to make conversation, yet JUNE is unresponsive.
DWIGHT
(curious)
How long have you been living here?
JUNE
Since the start.
DWIGHT
That's lucky, being sheltered from all of
the misery and chaos.
JUNE
Not really, if you knew the details.
DWIGHT
Care to explain?
JUNE
The group running this place in the beginning, they were monsters. They killed, they craved omnipotence.
DWIGHT
(curious)
And you were.. with them?
JUNE
I got recruited by force.
JUNE
Months later, Madison and a few others got captured. Her friends and family came to rescue her and that's how they took over this fine stadium.
JUNE
Madison turned it into a real
community.
JUNE
(smiles)
Madison, she's a good one.
DWIGHT
I get it, the whole living with evil.. I went the going the exact same thing.
DWIGHT
A man killed people with a giant ass baseball bat, we all feared him so we strayed along.
JUNE
And where's this man now?
DWIGHT
In a jail cell for the rest of his life.
JUNE
(shocked)
An actual jail cell?
JUNE
Didn't know there's still cops around.
DWIGHT
(giggles softly)
Rick Grimes, he's a good one.
JUNE and DWIGHT exchange smiles.
They keep walking and they pass a door that's slightly open. DWIGHT peeks inside and sees NICK sleeping.
DWIGHT
Who's that?
JUNE
That's Nick, Madison's son.
DWIGHT
Is he alright?
JUNE
(looks down, upset)
No, he's not.
As they're about to get to DWIGHT's room, MADISON stops them, she's certainly looking for something or someone.
MADISON
Like the place?
DWIGHT
It's big, safe. What else could I
possibly ask for?
DWIGHT
(chuckles)
Alright, maybe a hot bath tub.
MADISON and JUNE giggle slightly.
MADISON
(smiles)
You do have your own bathroom, and I'm pretty sure there's a tub.
DWIGHT
Well, this is the best day ever.
MADISON smiles seeing DWIGHT and JUNE giggling beside each other.
MADISON
(jokes)
You two are like two pees in a pod.
JUNE
(chuckles softly)
What? As if.
DWIGHT looks down, smiling timidly, aware that SHERRY is the only woman for his heart, or is she..?
MADISON
Well, go on and enjoy your evening.
DWIGHT
You two. Thank you, Madison.
MADISON
(giggles)
Don't thank me, I tied you to a tree.
DWIGHT
(smiles)
Yes, you did.
MADISON nods as DWIGHT and JUNE continues their way to his room. It's a small sized room, with only a normal sized bed and a window that leads to a magnificent view over the stadium.
INT. DWIGHT'S ROOM
DWIGHT and JUNE enter the small division and look around. They admire the glamorous view over the stadium as they walk closer to the window.
JUNE
What a beautiful view to wake up
to every morning.
DWIGHT
(while looking at JUNE)
Beautiful, indeed.
Both JUNE and DWIGHT chuckle.
JUNE
Well, enjoy the bathtub.
DWIGHT
Thanks, June.
JUNE
We'll discuss jobs and shit tomorrow.
DWIGHT
(polite)
No problem.
JUNE steps out of DWIGHT's room and closes the door.
INT. LUCIANA'S ROOM
JUNE enters LUCIANA's room, she sees MADISON trying to calmly wake up LUCIANA who is still asleep.
MADISON
(calmly)
Luciana, it's time to wake up.
MADISON wakes her up, as she smiles. She opens her eyes, directing a beam towards MADISON and JUNE.
JUNE
How are we doing today?
LUCIANA
Way better than yesterday.
The three women look at the stump. LUCIANA begins crying again.
JUNE
I'm so sorry, I didn't mean to-
LUCIANA
It's not your fault that it's visible.
LUCIANA
(yells)
It's Martha's fault!
MADISON
I know, honey. That bitch is dead now, you
got nothing to worry about.
LUCIANA
(yells, furiously)
Nothing to worry about? I lost my damn arm, not my damn commonsense!
LUCIANA
If this place falls, and we'd have to live out in the wilderness-
MADISON
(interrupts)
You'd be surrounded by the strongest
people alive who will keep YOU alive. And what makes you say this place will fall?
LUCIANA
(pessimistic)
Things always change, regardless of how
strong those walls are.
MADISON helps LUCIANA sit on her bed. She moves aside and gives space to LUCIANA.
LUCIANA
Where is Nick? Is he that ashamed of me?
MADISON
He's been through a lot during our absence.
LUCIANA
And me? I've been through worse.
MADISON
I know, Luci. I know.
LUCIANA
(tears up)
I need him, Madison.
LUCIANA looks at MADISON, trying to make her understand that she wants to see NICK.
MADISON
I'll speak to him.
MADISON gets up from the bed and walks to the door, she opens and enters the hallway, she closes the door behind her and walks through the hallway. MADISON stops next to NICK's bedroom door.
EXT. - MARTHA'S CAMP - AFTERNOON
MARTHA is seen leaving her camp, she is walking calmly until she sees a small herd of walkers. She smiles and approaches the herd's rear. She gets close enough for one walker to notice her and turns away from the herd's direction.
The walker continues to approach MARTHA and she stops after seeing the herd already moved enough for her to kill the walker without being noticed. MARTHA takes her knife out as the walker approaches and easily stabs the walker in the head, killing it. She then proceeds to open the walker's belly and take his organs and guts out. She puts everything she takes around her neck and on her clothes. MARTHA also covers her face with walker blood so she can blend in with the herd.
While she walks slowly to get closer to the herd she tries to look around for MELVIN. She is still reminiscing on everything that happened with him. They were arguing, he pushed her to the fire and then she ended up burning one side of her face.
MARTHA continues to walk getting closer and closer to the herd.
As MARTHA gets closer to the herd's rear, she hears footsteps behind her. She stops and looks but sees no one. She hears footsteps again.
MARTHA
(whispers)
Hello?
The footsteps get closer to her again. She looks to her left and sees a man close to her, he is about to attack her when she pushes him to the ground. He falls.
MARTHA takes her pistol out and points it to his head.
MARTHA
Who are you? And what the hell do you want?
MAN
Please, I thought you were a monster.
MARTHA
(giggles softly)
I am a monster, you got that right.
The MAN has tears in his eyes, he points to a wound located in his leg.
MAN
(grunts painfully)
My leg.
MARTHA
(giggles)
Don't worry. I will be help you with
all your affairs.
MARTHA leans closer to the MAN and analyzes his wound, she lifts his leg and he growls in pain.
MARTHA
(whispers)
Quiet.
MARTHA grabs one of his sleeves and tears the fabric. She wraps the sleeve around his leg and helps him stand up.
MARTHA
What's your name?
MAN
Jim. And you?
MARTHA
Martha.
JIM
Nice to meet you, although I wish we'd met
in better condition.
MARTHA
(chuckles)
Oh, no one's ever in a better condition.
JIM tries to walk, he manages although he's limping. Both of them walk inside the forest with MARTHA separating from the herd she is trying to follow.
MARTHA
You're doing a good job, Jim.
JIM stops trying to rest a bit after all the effort of walking in pain.
MARTHA scratches her chin and a smile appears on her face.
MARTHA
So, care to elaborate on who shot your leg?
JIM
It was someone.. in the distance.
JIM
We met up with two survivors, a young man and a little girl.
JIM
And someone shot at me during our confrontation, came from a stadium.
MARTHA's eyes grow wide when the word "stadium" is heard.
MARTHA
Stadium?
EXT. NICK'S DREAM
NICK gets up and looks to a woman who appear to be smiling. He walks towards the wan. NICK recognizes her to be CELIA.
CELIA
Finally, you're awake?
CELIA turns to him.
NICK
What the hell do you want, Celia?
CELIA
Is that how you treat the woman who's impacted you the most?
CELIA
More than even your own mother.
CELIA looks at NICK with a motherly smile on her face.
CELIA
You walked in solitude, surrounded by the dead. You respected them, probably even worshipped them.
CELIA
You saw the real them. It is their world
now, and it's our duty to learn to live
and respect them.
NICK didn't want to reminisce about that time. He was lost with no company nor family. He never knew he missed his mother and sister until he was alone in the world.
NICK
They're not living. They don't have feelings. That's what I learned during my time in this messed up world.
CELIA
What happened to you, Nick? You've
grown soft.
NICK
I've turned into a survivor.
NICK
I have people to take care of, family.
CELIA
How is Victor? Is he still breathing?
NICK
He's helping a man find his family, and protecting my sister.
CELIA
Seems like he's grown soft too.
NICK
We're not weak.
NICK
Just because we don't want to kill ourselves and become one with the dead, doesn't mean we're weak. It means we're stronger than you will ever be, Celia.
NICK
You gave up your life, you gave up your morals.. and for what, to worship the one thing that's trying to kill you?
NICK
Now, that's screwed up-
CELIA loses her smile and her face becomes angrier, as soon as NICK ends his sentence, CELIA slaps him hard.
NICK
I wish you were still alive.
CELIA smiles.
NICK
So, I would be the one to kill you. Not my mother, me.
NICK pushes CELIA. CELIA stays still, she looks at the young man she once tried to educate. She now knows that he's not the same person he was before.
CELIA
You are weak, Nick.
With that said, CELIA fades away into nothingness. NICK looks at the woman's body slowly disappearing. He sighs finally ending that discussion with CELIA.
NICK looks at his side and he is surprised that no one is there. He is alone again, just like he was when he first woke up in the white void.
EXT. NEAR THE STADIUM - AFTERNOON
MARTHA and JIM are seen next to a medium sized building that is close to the stadium. MARTHA places her binoculars and looks through the parking lot seeing the stadium all closed behind those giant wooden walls. She smiles as she sees JUNE in one of the lookout points.
MARTHA
Figure that's the woman who shot you?
JIM
And killed my friends.
MARTHA
They will surely pay now.
MARTHA
They will suffer, they will pay.
JIM wonders for a moment. He feels saddened and angry at everyone inside the stadium because of what they had done to his friends and him. He smiles at her.
JIM gets up and looks at MARTHA, he believes in her and he wants the revenge she is offering.
JIM
Are you sure you wanna do this?
MARTHA
I have history with them too.
MARTHA
They were dead the moment
I laid eyes on them.
Both of them smirk and look at the stadium, it sure isn't looking that safe anymore.
EXT. NICK'S DREAM
NICK is still in that white void of his, walking around after encountering CALVIN and CELIA. He wanders while looking around trying to find someone else, but the thoughts of anyone appearing again looks slim.
TROY
Nicky, you there?
TROY's voice is heard, yet TROY himself is nowhere to be found. NICK jumps as he hears TROY's voice so close to him. He shakes nervously trying to figure where TROY could be.
NICK
Can I see you, at least?
TROY
(smiles)
Turn around.
NICK jumps backwards and turns around to see TROY smiling at him.
NICK and TROY hug, it has been so long since they have seen each other.
NICK
I'm so sorry, Troy. I'm so sorry.
TROY
I know, Nick.
NICK
(tears up)
I let her kill you.
TROY
You can't go against the person who
brought you to this world. Believe me.
NICK breaks the hug, saddened with his friend's death.
NICK
How's hell treating ya?
NICK and TROY chuckle simultaneously.
NICK
I wish you were still alive.
TROY
I wish I was still alive, too.
TROY holds NICK's face with his hands, making NICK look into his blue eyes.
TROY
I remember our drunk asses walking towards
a damn horde, that one time.
NICK laughs as he remembers all those times.
NICK
You died too soon.
TROY
We get it, Nick. I died, your mother
killed me. We get it.
TROY
We'll reunite someday, Nick.
TROY
I don't know if you have a predilection for men and women, or just women.
TROY
But I loved you, Nick.
NICK
(confused)
You loved me?
TROY
I loved you.
TROY
And I know that you would rather be with that one chick than lay with a ghost.
TROY
But I loved you.
TROY smiles and then he kisses NICK on the lips, NICK's eyes widens whilst TROY's remains closed.
NICK
(giggles)
Wow.
TROY
(smiles)
Yeah. Wow.
TROY
Are you-?
NICK
I never cared for labels, Troy.
NICK
Just because this happened, doesn't mean it would've happened in real life.
TROY
It could've happened, right?
NICK
It could've.
NICK
If you survived, I'd probably have fallen in
love with you too.
TROY
Don't worry, Nick. I'm in a much better place, believe it or not.
NICK
I'll be there one day, and then.. we'll talk.
TROY
(chuckles)
I'm sure we'll do more than talking, I am persuasive.
NICK
You screwed up a lot during our time at the Ranch, Troy.
NICK
But I still wanted you alive.
TROY
See you someday, Nicky.
TROY walks away and NICK takes some time trying to be himself again.
NICK
(yells)
Troy!
NICK runs in TROY's direction, but he already faded away.
INT. NICK'S BEDROOM (AFTERNOON)
NICK wakes up abruptly sitting on the bed and frightening MADISON in the process. He is sweaty and his eyes show fear in him. MADISON sits on the bed too. She caresses his hair looking lovingly at her son.
MADISON
Luciana's waiting for you.
NICK
How is she doing?
MADISON
Not well, but I figure your presence would
make her feel better.
NICK
I had a dream.
NICK
I saw three people who
made an impact on me.
NICK
Calvin.
NICK
Celia..
NICK sighs before muttering the final person.
NICK
Troy.
MADISON's eyes grow wide, as she has been dreading speaking to NICK about TROY for years.
MADISON
I'm sorry. It had to be do-
NICK
You can't say that. Daniel's not even here
now, probably dead near whatever's
left of that Dam.
NICK
He could've survived. He could've helped around the stadium, become a significant member of this fine community.
MADISON
Let's go see Luciana, Nick.
MADISON
Let's save this discussion for later.
MADISON
Change your clothes. Don't want Luciana
to see the person she values the
most looking like this.
MADISON stands up and gives space for NICK to stand up and change shirts as the one he is wearing is covered in sweat.
MADISON and NICK leave NICK's room and enter the hallway. LUCIANA's room is on the other end.
NICK
You think Taqa's gonna find just family?
MADISON
Anything is possible.
MADISON
Forgot to mention, we have a new member.
NICK
You're really bringing strangers into this community after what happened?
MADISON
We can trust him.
NICK
You trusted Martha, too. She amputated my girlfriend's arm off.
NICK
If I was there, I wouldn't let you
make that mistake.
MADISON
And if you weren't here, the stadium
would've fallen apart because of the woman with the hat, the guy with the wheelchair.
NICK looks to MADISON, confused of her knowledge of the situation with them and SARAH, WENDELL and JIM.
MADISON
Charlie told me.
MADISON
We both went through our shit, but we got through it.
MADISON
Now, we move forward.
MADISON and NICK both resume walking to LUCIANA's bedroom.
They get to LUCIANA's door, and MADISON opens it. NICK steps inside LUCIANA's bedroom and he sees her lying on the bed. He stays next to the bed but does not sit.
NICK
Luciana.
LUCIANA
(smiles)
Hey, you.
They both look nervous. LUCIANA is still mesmerized by the fact that NICK is there, that already means a huge deal to her.
NICK
I'm sorry for-
LUCIANA
No, it's fine. You needed time to process.
NICK
You're a strong one, Luci. We've both been through so much.
She touches his hand, lovingly, NICK looks at his hand as he sees the V carved in it with her fingers touching the scars that makes the letter.
LUCIANA
I don't need an arm to live, your presence is what keeps me alive.
NICK
I love you so much.
LUCIANA
And I love you.
LUCIANA leans closer to him and kisses him.
Both of them smile and then NICK kisses LUCIANA while they both hug.
