you went down stairs first and told him to wait at the top of the stairs till you gave him a signal
you got to the bottoms of the stairs and gave him a signal to come down a little more but then told him to wait when you heard ur mom

right when he was ab to close the door you grabbed a book and dropped it on the floor so that the door closing wouldn't make a lot of noise
