~Kennedy~
"Should I wear this?" my best friend Delilah held a floral tank top up to her denim shorts,
"Or this?" she showed me a polka-dotted crop top.
"Del, those are both mine," I paused for a second, "Floral tank top"
She gave me a cheeky grin and threw it on. I zipped up my old canvas duffel bag as she threw her backpack over her shoulder. We hooked arms and skipped into the living room.
"Bye mom! Adios Paul! Hurry up Cody!" I screamed.
"Kennedy, Paul already left for work" my mom announced as she walked out of her room.
"Without saying goodbye?!" I wailed and fake cried while Delilah giggled.
"Kennedy! Use your church voice!" my mom scolded.
"With all due respect, Ms. Washington, you guys don't go to church, therefore Kennedy doesn't know what that means" Delilah responded.
My mom laughed and pulled us both into a hug, "I'm going to miss you girls."
"Don't worry mom, I'll take care of them" my older brother, Cody announced as he walked out of his bedroom.
"We don't need to be taken care of" I grumbled as Cody gave mom a hug.
"Bye Ms. Washington! See you at the end of the summer!" Delilah called as the three of us left the apartment and entered the elevator.
"Have fun at camp!" she cried as the elevator doors shut.
"Delilah, don't you wanna say goodbye to your mom?" Cody questioned.
"She won't be home," Delilah said quietly.
Cody and I exchanged a look as the elevator doors opened to the lobby. The three of us walked out to the curb.
"The camp bus should be here in about five minutes" Cody announced.
"Three, two, one" the bus turned the corner and stopped in front of us as Delilah reached one. We all laughed and hopped onto the bus. Cody sat in the front with his friend Todd.
"Sup Todd." I nodded at Todd. Todd nodded back in response.
Delilah and I marched straight to the back. We collapsed in our seat.
"Music?" D asked.
"Music." I yanked out my earbuds and we each put one in.
"COS IN THE BACK OF THE ROOM WHERE NOBODY LOOKS, SHE'LL BE WITH HER BOYFRIEND; SHE'S NOT READING BOOKS" We sang beautifully.
"Will you shut up?" The school's bad boy, Zayn glared at us from the seat across.
"Do you have an issue? Huh? HUH?" I shouted, doing crazy rapper arms.
"Ken, stop," Delilah whispered in my ear.
Zayn looked confused. After staring at me for a few seconds, he shook his head and turned back around.
Before I knew it, we arrived at Camp Haiwatha. Delilah and I retrieved our bags from the back of the bus and went to the check in table to get our cabin number and our schedules.
"Delilah, what cabin are you in?" I asked. I really hoped we were in the same cabin.
"4" she answered, "You?"
"5" I groaned. "Maybe our schedules are similar."
"Let's see" Delilah held her schedule next to mine.
Mine looked like this,
Arts and Crafts
Canoeing
(Sport of choice)
Lunch
Woodshop
Free Hour
Drama
Delilah's looked like this:
Arts and Crafts
Woodshop

"Pretty close!" I exclaimed.
"Attention campers!" Boomed a deep voice over the loudspeakers, "Please report to the stage in 10 minutes for announcements."
"Lets go put our stuff in our cabins." Delilah said.
We dashed off to our cabins, which were right next to each other. There were 10 cabins in all, 11 if you counted the tiny shack in the woods, where the bad campers of the summer were kept.
There were 5 cabins on either side of the stage, and each cabin kept 8 people in it. A cabin consisted of 2 bedrooms, each with 2 bunks, and a little living room, consisting of a couch and a table. If you were lucky, you got put in cabin 1 or 6, they had a tv. Boys were in cabins 6-10 and girls were in cabins 1-5, thus why they were separated.
I reached cabin 5 and opened the door. One of the bedrooms was empty, while the other had 4 girls in it. I recognized them as the bratty girls, who were all best friends. Last year, they snuck out of their cabin and went to the boys side in the middle of the night. They were loud, obnoxious, and definitely NOT good cabin mates. Lucky me.
I set my bag on one of the top bunks in the empty room and walked over to cabin 4 to meet Delilah for announcements. I'd unpack later.
We simultaneously walked out of our cabin doors and met in the courtyard in front of the girls cabins.
"Shall we?" I asked.
"We shall" Delilah and I linked arms and started to skip.
"Duhduh duhduh duhduh duhduh duhduh duhduh!" We sang, "We're off to see the wizard, the wonderful wizard of Oz. We find he is a whiz of a Wiz is ever a Wiz he was.If ever oh ever a Wiz there was the wizard of Oz is one because! Because of the wonderful things he does!" We doubled over giggling and people started to stare.
I saw Zayn and his oh-so-delicious-friend-whose-name-I-did-not-know laughing and pointing at us. But I didn't care. And neither did Delilah. We casually walked over to the small crowd that forming beneath the stage like we didn't just make a totally awesome scene.
Announcements flew by and Delilah and I were heading back to our cabins.
"Kennedy!" Someone jumped on my back from behind.
"Oof!" I face planted in the fresh green grass. "Can't *gasp* breathe" I croaked.
"Oh, sorry." I quickly stood up and brushed off my clothes and turned around to see who nearly killed me.
"Nate!" I yelled. I tackled him in a bear hug and he tumbled over, too. "OhmygoshitsyouIhaven'tseenyouinforverugghhImissedyousomuch"
"Kennedy-can't breathe!" He said dramatically, throwing his hand onto his forehead. I climbed off of him and we both stood up, laughing.
"Woah, grow much?" I exclaimed, looking at Nate. My then, 5'4 friend was now about 6'2. I didn't know it was possible for someone to grow that much. And he wasn't scrawny, either. From texting and calling him, I knew that Nate had started playing lacrosse this previous year, but boy did he have some muscles.
"Woah, haircut much?" He added, pointing to my head. Last summer, my sloulder legth hair had been down to my lower back. "And where did your glasses go?"
"I got contacts." I replied. "Hey, you remember Deli-" I turned around, noticing Delilah was gone. I scanned the crowd for her, but she seemed to have disappeared. I shrugged. Maybe she decided to go unpack. Hopefully she wasn't upset because of Nate. I knew she'd never liked him that much, claiming he was a "creepy midget". But now only half of that statement was true. Delilah had also liked him for a period of time last summer, so I kinda had to stop hanging out with him. She thought I might spill her secret, which, lets be honest, I probably would have.
"Ken, what's your schedule?" Nate asked me, snapping me back into the real world.
"I left it in my cabin. Let me see yours." Sure enough, we had the exact same schedule.
"All the same activities. But what's your sport of choice?" I asked.
"Lax. You? "
"Ballet," I answered.
"Nate!" A few boys shouted. "Quit talking to your girlfriend and come on!"
"I should probably go." Nate pointed to his dude friends and rolled his eyes. "Catch up more tonight?"
I nodded and gave him a quick hug before he raced off to his friends. Contrary to the beliefs of his meat-headed friends, Nate and I had never liked each other that way. We met both of our first years at camp, before Delilah had started coming. We were 7 and both had gotten our hands stuck to the arts and crafts table with some paste. Through the sawing of the table, the layers of hand skin lost, and the hysterical tears, Nate and I had really bonded.
Now where is Delilah...
