Sophie and her friends quickly downed the elixirs. Biana ordered them all to spread out, hide in a random room, count to ten, and then meet up in the kitchen. That way, they wouldn't know who was who. To make the challenge even harder, Biana told them they should act like each other to try to trick them.
The seven friends dashed out of the room. Sophie turned right and ran down a long, crystal hallway. Then she took some random turns, knowing she could rely on her photographic memory of she got lost. Which was probably likely on account of Everglen being so massive.
Sophie turned a corner and found herself face to face with Fitz.
"Oh," she exclaimed. "Sorry. I didn't realize you were here." She turned to leave, but Fitz grabbed her wrist.
"Wait," he said. "Can you stay for a sec?" Sophie wondered what he wanted. She could feel the elixirs starting to settle.
"Well, whatever it is, make it quick. I don't wanna mess up Biana's game." Fitz released her arm.
"Of course," he agreed. "I wanted to know if you wanted to team up." Sophie looked at him weird. Why would she wanna team up with someone? With him of all people?
"Just hear me out," he pleaded. Sophie rolled her eyes.
"Alright, fine. But it better be worth my time," she warned. She could already see her skin growing darker and Fitz's eyes were turning green.
"I say we team up to beat Keefe." Sophie glared at Fitz. Was he just being weird and jealous again? When would he realize she didn't find that attractive!
"If this is about your silly little silent competition with Keefe," she started.
"It's not, I promise!" It was Fitz's turn to roll his eyes. "Think about it. Keefe's an Empath. He's gonna be able to tell who we are by reading our emotions!" Sophie stopped to think. She hated to admit it, but he was right. Keefe did have an advantage.
"Ok," she reluctantly agreed. "I'll do it." Fitz grinned and pumped his fist. Sophie sighed. She had a feeling she was going to regret her decision. But then she reminded herself that it was for mallowmelt and she felt a bit better.
While the two friends were making plans, they were unaware of the icy eyes watching from the shadows.
