Oftentimes as a writer I learn new things about myself in every word I choose to write. As a dancer I have a strong tendency to lose parts of myself in the rhythm and tune of the music.
Maybe this happens for a reason.
There is this idea that our passions define who we are; that idea is a powerful concept. If we are able to both find and lose pieces of ourselves in our passions, then maybe the reason we change is linked to the pieces we lose and find.
I believe that our personalities are made from millions of tiny shards like glass that fit together in a complex pattern which makes us who we are.
If this is true, then what if when we do things we love we find these shards that fit perfectly and so we add them to the pattern. But the pattern of our personality can only take up so much space, and eventually we have to give up some of our pieces in order to change and grow as people.
When you cry during a song that hits to hard, you are beginning to change. You lose pieces, you find pieces.
You change when you follow your deepest dreams and desires.
You change when you try something new
When you meet someone new.
This collection of poems is different than my other ones. All because now I know which pieces to leave behind in these words, and which ones to pick back up.
