“And...done!” Micah says as he pins up the bandage around my foot.
I winced. “Maybe I should’ve done it myself. You didn’t have to go as far as stitching it up!” I said.
He shook his head, “Okay. Just remind me when you want to pay the hospital to do it. And answer questions,” he commented. He looked at me in the eye “True answers,” he added.
I rolled my eyes towards the ceiling. “If you are here to give me a lecture like mom and dad used to do, you can go,” I wish I could take back what I said. Micah’s eyes starting tearing up. I looked up at him, and he used his sleeve to wipe his eyes.
I suddenly felt bad. Micah never wanted to talk about our parents. They were mean and abusive. But then after Micah and I moved out, they mysteriously disappeared. They haven't been found in four years.
“Uh, sorry,” I said.
“Yeah, it’s fine,” he sniffed.
We looked around the room, avoiding each others eye contact.
“Ah-hem,” Micah coughs, “It should heal in a few weeks. But for now, you should rest and avoid over-excessive movement, or the wound won’t heal,” Micah said.
“Yeah, fine,” I sighed. “Too bad. I was planning on running the track around the old high school today,”
“Oh, you can still walk! Just no running. C’mon. I’ll take you,” Micah replied.
“What?” my eyes widened, “I was going to go alone! Like, by myself!”
“Aww! You don’t want to walk with your little brother?” he asked innocently. I looked back at him. He was doing the angel face.
I sighed, ”Fine. Whatever will make you stop doing that face,”
He smiled mischievously, “Alright, lets go!”
Huh? “Wait what? Right now?” I said, surprised.
“Yep!” he took my arm, and started dragging me out the door. I winced each time I hit the step outside.
“Put me down, Micah, or I will seriously pound your face in!” I yelled.
