Chapter 13 - Ruan Xia shook her head. She was just worried about keeping herself alive. (1)
Ruan Xia had sent the flight number to Song Tingshen early that morning. Even if he didn't look at the text message she sent, she felt that she should still make an attempt to inform him.
After she and young Song Shuyan exited the boarding area while holding hands, she saw Song Tingshen and his assistant. She was surprised that he would come to pick them up.
The chubby kid reacted faster than her. He rushed towards his dad like a mini cannonball and smashed into Song Tingshen's legs.
Song Tingshen immediately picked him up. He kissed his son's chubby cheek. His eyes were full of gentleness.
"Dad, I missed you!" The chubby kid hugged his dad's neck and nuzzled him.
If you were to talk about feelings, although Ruan Xia had started to treat him well, she would still be below Song Tingshen if there was a ranked list of who Song Shuyan liked the most. Afterall, the chubby kid had spent a lot more time with dad.
Ruan Xia thought of something. The chubby kid had started nursery school last year, and the nursery school frequently hosted events where parents could attend. The novel's Ruan Xia found this sort of thing tedious and never went. Song Tingshen probably understood her personality pretty well. Thus, every time, he would go to his son's nursery school events by himself.
This family of three were rarely together.
This was the first time that Assistant Chen was able to see Ruan Xia close up.
It wouldn't be an exaggeration to say Assistant Chenhad exclaimed in surprise when he saw her. CEO Song's son looked a lot like his mother, but he hadn't inherited all of her looks. Even popular actresses didn't look as beautiful as her.
Assistant Chen suddenly questioned the validity of the rumor that Ruan Xia had schemed to get his boss to marry her. She was such a beautiful woman. Couldn't it have been possible that CEO Song had pursued her simply because he was tempted by her beauty?
After Song Tingshen had gotten enough of acting sickenly cute with his son, he finally looked at Ruan Xia. However, his gaze was calm without any happy surprise. He perfunctorily said to Ruan Xia, "Thanks for your hard work."
Normally, a married couple shouldn't be acting so unfamiliar with each other. However, whether it was the novel's Ruan Xia or the transmigrated Ruan Xia, neither of them would feel disappointed by his attitude.

Assistant Chen got checked in luggage tag from Ruan Xia and prepared to go get her luggage. Afterwards, this very beautiful family of three plus one assistant proceeded to the parking lot.
On the drive to the hotel, Ruan Xia chose to be a quiet backdrop. It was enough just listening to the chubby kid and his dad chatting away and saying they missed each other.
There was practically no further communication between Ruan Xia and Song Tingshen after they got into the car. That's good. She closed her eyes to get some rest.
Almost half an hour later, the car stopped at the hotel's front entrance. Assistant Chen had already called the hotel's front desk and booked a room. As he handed the room's key card to Ruan Xia, he tried to suppress his curiosity. Why were they sleeping in separate rooms? Why had Mrs. Song come to City A to see Mr. Song. And, she had brought their kid along too. It felt as if he had discovered something big.
Ruan Xia wasn't surprised at all that Song Tingshen had arranged a separate room for her. She smiled as she thanked Assistant Chen.
This was perfect.
She wouldn't be happy if she had to share a room with Song Tingshen.
Even if she was his wife in name, the real truth was that they were strangers.
Of course, it was also obvious that Song Tingshen didn't like her and didn't want to see her.
The chubby kid felt very conflicted. He knew that his parents didn't sleep together at home. However, he wasn't old enough to realize his parents' sleeping arrangement was atypical for a married couple. And so, all the way up to when they got out of the elevator, he was struggling between deciding whether to sleep with dad or mom.
