Annabel POV

I walked into my 3rd period with a triumphant smile on my face.
I had finally convinced Cameron that I could walk to lunch on my own.
The past 2 weeks he's somehow made it to all my classes right when I come out so he could drop me off to my next class.
He's so... nice. Although sometimes his kindness can be kind of annoying, I'll admit that it is refreshing. He's also funny... really funny.
I was scared this whole thing would be me trying to deal with some snobby rich kid, but this hasn't been so bad. He's actually a really goofy dumb kid. Which is just what I need.
As soon as I sat down in my seat I could feel a presence in front of me. I looked up to see none other than Elizabeth Kings, Cameron's controlling girlfriend whose also one of the people that have the most information about the scandal. I forgot I had this class with her.
And to think I was actually in a good mood.
She was smiling that same fake smile that she put on for me in the hallway a couple of weeks ago and every other time we've seen each other for that matter. I did the same thing back at her and waited for her to say something.
"Hi, Anna! How have your first couple of weeks been? I noticed that my boyfriend has been hanging out with you a lot lately."
She spoke in an annoyingly high pitched voice and just to piss her off I rose my voice an octave to match hers.
"Oh, yeah! He's been so helpful. He's taken me to every class and shown me around the school. He's being so sweet to me." I smiled and began taking things out of my bag for class.
"Oh well, that's how he is! Cameron Black: the sweetest boy in town. He does this with everyone, don't worry."
She was still smiling at me but I could tell what she really meant: "You aren't special, so don't fool yourself into thinking you are." Oh don't worry sweetie, I'm fully aware of how special I am, are you?
Absolutely annoyed with the fake smiles and false niceties I rolled my eyes and said, "Ok Lizzy you can cut the crap. Just say what you have to say and move on."
"What're you talking about Anna? I just came to ask you how your time here has been."
Does this bitch ever stop fake smiling?
"Yeah, right," I said with an eye roll. "And Ron Weasley came up to me earlier and told me spiders were his favorite animal."
She sadly didn't laugh at my Harry Potter joke -which I was very proud of by the way. Instead, she scowled at me and finally gave the real reason she approached me.
"Ok, now you're just talking gibberish! Whatever, you're right, I came here to tell you to back off my man. He doesn't like you, doesn't want you, and doesn't care about you. The only reason that's he's giving you the time of day is because he thinks it's the right thing to do. He would be nice to you even if you were a bee trying to sting him, so don't go feeling special because he gave you a tour."
She finished with a satisfied smirk and started to walk away. Before she could, however, I knew I had to add in one more thing.
"I mean I didn't want him in the first place, but the fact that you're threatened by me and I'm supposedly 'not special' says a whole lot about your confidence."
She gasped, got as red as a tomato, realized she didn't have a comeback, and stomped off.
Now it was my turn to have a satisfied smirk.
I didn't tell Cameron about our little squabble because I didn't think it was that big of a deal. I thought she would scowl, hate me from a distance, and every now and then say something rude to me.
Boy, was I wrong.
I left my next period and easily made my way to the lunchroom. I talked to a couple of people during the day but I haven't met anyone that I could see becoming my close friend. That's not what I'm here for though, and it can't be why I'm here. I can't get close to too many, if any, people.
Plus I found out that Cameron is in all my classes after lunch block. I would never admit it to him, but I could see us becoming close. Hopefully it ends better than the others.
I walked into the lunchroom, got my food, and was about to go look for Cameron when a lion stopped me dead in my tracks.
Oh wait- it's just Elizabeth.
The lion roared at me when I met its gaze.
"Ew, you're actually eating that lunch?"
"Ew, you still look the way you do?"
She scowled at me and if I wasn't in a 'gang' with people who could crush her I might have been scared.
And that's a big might.
"Whatever, I don't care about throwing around petty insults right now." She flicked her red hair over her shoulder. "I'm here to give you another warning because apparently, you didn't understand what I said the first time. Back. Off. My. Man."
I could tell she was trying so hard to be intimidating, but it wasn't working. The girl that was with her had a stunned facial expression, as though this didn't happen very often and she was confused.
"Well, I'm here to tell you that I don't want him. But maybe you're just jealous that he probably wants me more than he wants you..."
I know, I know, it was kind of mean.
But she's also an extremely jealous lion.
And the look on her face was so worth it.
Plus what she did next was definitely uncalled for.
"You're such a bitch!" She yelled right before she took my whole lunch and plopped it right on my head.
Today the cafeteria was serving nachos, so after she dumped my food on me I had nacho cheese and chips running down my face as I scowled at her.
The door to the lunchroom opened just as I yelled, "What is wrong with you!"
I had had it with this girl. I grabbed a carton of milk and poured it on her head.
When all of it finished dripping down her face she screamed dramatically and lunged at me.
I swear she looked like she was gonna eat me. I told you she was a lion.
Before anything could happen though, Cameron appeared out of nowhere, caught her, and pulled her away from me.
I didn't think I'd get the chance to see him mad, but he looked pretty pissed.
"Cameron! Baby! Did you see what that witch did! She poured milk all over my new Louis Vuitton handbag and Chanel shoes!" Elizabeth looked down at her shoes in horror and gestured to them while still covered in milk.
"What I saw was Anna retaliating after you dumped her lunch on her head." He crossed his arms and dared her to disagree.
"You're defending her!?" She said it as though it were the most incredulous thing she'd ever heard of.
"You're supposed to be my boyfriend! You're supposed to always defend me no matter what! Even if I'm wrong you always have my back! Do you even still love me anymore?!"
Silence.
Cameron didn't say anything for a while. I'm pretty sure the whole lunchroom was holding their breaths to see what he would say because we were causing a scene, and everyone was staring.
"Maybe I don't."
He said it so quietly I wasn't even sure I heard him properly.
The breaths everyone was holding in turned into gasps.
Her eyes started to water and she was about to say something but he beat her to it.
"I'm sorry Elizabeth but I don't want to be your boyfriend anymore. I can't do this."
"It's because of her, isn't it? Everything was perfect before she came along. You ruined everything you little bi-"
She was about to pounce again when Cameron stopped her.
"No Elizabeth. Things weren't okay before she came. You asked me if I still love you, but do you still love me? I don't think you do. I don't think you have in a while. I'm sorry it took this-" he gestured between me and Elizabeth "-for me to realize it."
"Whatever."
She turned and left —to go to the bathroom I assume— and Cameron turned to face me with a sad look on his face. He looked me up and down and his frown slowly morphed into a smirk.
"So... I guess it's... Nacho day?"
He took a chip from my hair and I couldn't help but laugh at his awful joke.
