My hand shakes as I grab the paper, forensic report from a new case we're working on.
"I'm so glad Lucifer isn't here making the entire case about him anymore." Dan explains, sighing with relief
I feel my throat tighten as I nod, Ella glares at Dan and shakes her head.
"I'm just saying, maybe it's for the best- whatever happens."
"Dan, can you stop?" Ella asks, he looks at her confused
"What? I'm just saying maybe he wasn't as good a guy as everyone thinks he was, he ruined lives- he got people killed. He broke a kids back." Dan says, astoundingly
"Lucifer is a good guy." I state, through my teeth
"I'm sorry do you remember when he took Trixie to a school being investigated for murder? How about the time he almost got her killed at the penthouse- Tiernans guys?" He retorts
"No- you almost got Trixie killed at the penthouse, you don't get to put that on him." Ella snaps quickly, I raise a eyebrow
"Ella, what do you mean?" I ask, she drops her mouth. The colour drains from Dan's face as he makes eye contact with Ella.
"Uh," she starts
"Just that if he got there sooner, Trixie would've never left- right?" Ella asks, I nod slowly. She's hiding something.
I look between the two of them a couple times,
"Regardless," i start
"Lucifer still has dignity, you don't talk about people behind their backs." I state, Dan nods
"Yeah, you're right. I'm sorry." He says, apologetically
I nod, "it's fine." I whisper, I rub my temples
"I could use a drink," I add
"Chloe, we need to talk- in private." Dan says, I raise an eyebrow
"About what?" I ask, shaking my head
"Whatever you tell her, you can tell me." Ella says, confidently, I look from her and back to Dan and nod
"I think you're losing yourself for someone who doesn't deserve it." He states, I freeze
"What?" I ask, suddenly
"I think you need to get over him- if he cared about you he would be here." He states, o shake my head
"He does care, he's just, busy." I whisper, Dan slams his hand on the table
"Chloe, move on!" He shouts
"I can't move on, why would I want to?" I ask, confused
"Because he hurt you, you should hate him!" Dan shakes his head, shouting
"Right now Dan, there's one person who I hate and it's not lucifer." I sneer, glaring at him
"It's you."
I feel my cheeks flush and my heartbeat slow;
"Dan Wait, I didn't mean it." I whisper, my arm reaches out for him but he pulls away seconds before I reach him
"I'm sorry." I call out, but he leaves anyways
Turning towards Ella I put my head in my hands, resting my elbows on the table.
"I'm so stupid." I admit, she doesn't say anything
"You know, I think you're really hurting Chloe. I want to be able to help but I think- I don't think he's coming back chloe." She says honestly, resting a hand on my shoulder
"I want to believe he's coming back, that he'll come explain why he left and apologize to me. That he will stay with me- but I know I'm lying to myself.
I lost him." I whisper, a single tear trails down my cheek in silence
