Chapter 45 : HIM , ME
& MOONLIGHT
ISABELLA'S POV
Today's occasion ?
It's Oliver's and Ben's birthday on the very same day .
Jess invited me and asked me to bring my friends along so here I am with them .
"Thanks for coming" Jess greets us
"Thanks for inviting"
" You're welcome.
Dance , have drinks , go for a swim , do whatever you want to do , just have fun " she says
We all smile .
"Drinks it is!" Lucy says and drags Harv along with her
"I'll go wish the birthday boy"
"I hope it's Ben you are talking
about "
"Obviously , you coming?"
"No , I'll just look at you from afar while you do so " I reply sarcastically
"Let's go" he says and we both head to where we spot Ben .
"Um why don't you go alone ?" I say nervously
" What happened suddenly?"
"Royal" I mumbled
"He's not gonna hit you , but then again , in your case , I should tell this to him and not you"
"Don't remind me !"
"We'll just wish him and come back "
"Okay" I hesitantly agree and we walk further .
"Hi" Chris greets
"Hey " Jess and Ben reply , Fed smiles at us .
"Happy Birthday " he says
"Happy B'day Ben . God bless you "
"Thank you guys " he replies and hands us a drink
"She doens't drink " Ro says and takes it from my hand and drinks it himself instead !
Me and Jessica look at each other and sigh .
"I'll just come " I say and go away .
I sit near the water .
As I watch the waves come and go ,
It reminds me of our bond ,
which never seems to be stable , always vulnerable, nevertheless special .
I look at Royal who's just standing , looking in the blank .
It's like he's deep in thought .
Jessica's looking at him and then she looks at me .
She sends a faint smile .
It feels like even though she also has worries of her own but still she chose to smile instead .
Then she diverts her attention back to Ro , who now is talking with her .
After few seconds , his eyes meet mine and he looks away instantly .
I'll do whatever it takes for us to get back together !
Should I?
Go for it
I know it's reckless but I gotta do what I gotta do !
With the thought that Ro isn't aware of me knowing how to swim ,
I start walking into the water .
So what if he doesn't want to talk to me , after this he would not only talk but also hug me !
There are some people already having fun in the water but they are a bit far from where I stood .
As I go deeper , the level of water coming in contact with my body naturally increases .
I look back at Ro who isn't aware that I am standing in the water without anyone's help .
Come on Ro , look at me !
Nope , he still doesn't .
His attention is towards something else and I continue walking deeper .
Now the water seems to be in level with my chest and no one , literally no one is paying heed to me .
Those who did , didn't think much of it , thinking , mostly everyone knows swimming by this age and diverted their focus to something more interesting than a teenager who's trying to mend her bond with her best friend by acting somewhat suicidal .
With one last look at Ro , he was trying to look somewhere else .
But his line of sight passed by me which made him look twice at the figure which was almost submerged .
His eyes instantly bulged and he mumbles something .
Then he shouts but I can hardly hear it , but I need no words to decipher that he's just yelling my name .
Now when I know he realised the seriousness of this made up situation , I take a deep breath and completely get under water .
I swim a bit further and I come up a little , otherwise my acting would turn into a reality and the story of our Faithful Bond will turn into nothing more than a what if .
From the corner of my eyes , I see Ro jumping into the water while Jessica and my friends are by the shore .
I hold my breath and get submerged yet again .
The water is kinda cool but by now my body has adjusted to it .
It's dark but somehow I manage to spot a certain someone's figure swimming towards me .
I swear if he had swum in the competition with this speed , he would have won it easily .
That's not the point !
I close my eyes instantly and then
I feel two arms wrap around my body .
Then I am being pulled kind of forcefully to the surface .
As soon as I am up , I breathe .
"Izzy open your eyes!" Ro says and slaps my cheeks gently
"Izzy ?"
I slowly open my eyes and then hug him with all the strength I could muster up .
"Thank god you are safe!" , he mumbles
"Nothing can happen to me as long as you are by my side" I reply
He slightly pulls away but I am still holding onto him .
"Let's get you on the land " he says
"No , wait . I am feeling good here"
"Then hold tight . I don't want you to drown"
I nod my head .
He takes a deep breath and then his parent mode gets turned on !
"Are you crazy ?
You can't even swim and you want to play in water !
What if I wasn't here ? What if something had happened ?"
"Nothing happened , right?"
"Do you understand what you mean to me ?
If something had happened ,
I would have never forgiven myself !
Hell , I'll lose one of the reasons I'm still alive "
I bite my lip as the tears threaten to fall at his statement ...
"Ro"
"What?"
I hug him again , without thinking of anything else in the world .
It's like it's just him , me and moonlight .
"Ro do you still want to push me away?" I mumble in his ears
He shakes his head and I end up smiling .
" When you were gone , I learned how to swim from dad "
He instantly pulls away from me and asks ,
"But you were drowning?"
"I was acting so you'd finally give in and talk to me " I confessed
Just like that, there was pin drop silence in the atmosphere .
His expressions which radiated care turned into a scare !
"Not funny Isabella!" he says ,
his face suddenly had a disappointed look . He started drifting away from me , figuratively and literally .
"Do you even have a clue how scared I was! I almost thought I lost you and you were just ...'
"Ro but aren't you glad that nothing happened to me ?"
"I am , more than you can imagine but this was not the way Izzy .
I'm telling you for the last time ,
don't try to convince me !
We're better off without it " he says and pointed to us .
"If that's what you feel then I'll never be able to convince you otherwise! "
I shout and he swims back to shore , leaving me in the water which was not as cold as the situation I found myself in !
When he stepped on the land , he just walked to the opposite side agreesively .
I could see Jessica calling out his name and running behind me .
"Isabella come back" Chris shouted
I nod and swim back ...
"I'll walk back to hostel "
"It will take around 45 minutes , I'll come with you " he says
"Sorry but I want to be alone . I hope you understand"
"Okay" he says and I walk back to my room , with the wet clothes still wrapped around my body in this kind of cold weather .
I thought things will get back to normal but nothing new when I say what took place was the complete opposite , thanks to me !
I am at this point that now my own tears are afraid to fall because they even know that no one will wipe them , let alone myself !
Not to mention , I ran out of the same and have no energy to cry a river again and again !

"Royal wait!"
"I wanna be left alone Jessica , not now . Please , listen to me! "
"No , you listen to me! "
"Not again Jessica . There's nothing going on between Isabella and me "
"I didn't ask that "
"You were going to , right ?
Just like that day when Isabella fell in the pool , which was also an act
probably "
"She was drunk that day "
"But still we argued about it , didn't we?"

After a while, Royal finally speaks ,
"Why?"
"You are asking me why ?!
Royal ask your heart why and
it will answer you honestly .
Don't let anything else influence it's decision"
"You love her and she does too ,
no matter how much you both try to deny it and hide behind the fact that you are bestfriends "
" Now also you both are fighting and it's because you are afraid to fall harder ! Correct me if I'm wrong! "
"Why are you quiet Royal ?! Say something ! "
"I'm sorry " he sighs
"Don't be . I'm sorry"
"Why?"
"Because if I wasn't there , maybe you could have been more confident about your feelings "
"Jessica , just because I don't love you the way I should have , doesn't mean I don't care for you "
"I know Royal . You do care for me and I don't regret anything .
It's just I need to learn myself how to deal with this phase"
"You are strong and you are not getting rid of me that easily "
"Thank you for everything" she sighs
"We will always be friends , right ?"
"It's hard to be just friends with someone you love and I guess you know it very well by now " ,
Jessica responds and walks away .

Two days later ,
"Lucy , you are alone ? Where's your friend?"
" Ma'am she's sick "
" Oh okay "
" Rest of you, do not copy ! Just note down whatever you know , alright ?"
All students nod .
" Oliver , sit on the first bench . Mikey , go and sit in his place "
Oliver groans and sits where he's asked to .
" Royal stand up and come here , sit beside Lucy. Jennifer you shift "
" Okay Ma'am" Jennifer says and settles herself on Royal's usual seat .
" Jennifer , you are telling me the
answers " , Fed whispers
She nods her head .
" So what happened to her ?" Ro asks Lucy
" Fever "
" She took medicines?"
" I guess so "
" Nothing serious , right ?"
" I don't know . These days , she's being distant from everyone .
It's like something's eating her alive "
" Okay students , now ! I want pin drop silence . I'll be distributing the test papers "
"I hope she gets well soon",
Ro mutters under his breath .
