Midnight.
The people of Mobius sat tightly asleep in their villages and towns. The night was quiet, almost as always, with the few exceptions of the night workers, and maybe few parties here or there.
Life had almost went on as usual. That was, until a good bit of people near the coast of the Hills heard a large crash in the ocean.
Not everyone woke up, but a lot did. And those who did woke up to a new island on the coastline of Green Hills. A young, two-tailed yellow fox that had a small workshop right on the beach of that coast was the first to notice. A pair of binoculars in his hand, he looks out of the door to see the mountaintops of the rather tropical body of land.
He struggled to gather words as he tossed his binoculars to the side, picking up a black-ink ballpoint pen as he put it to a small notebook paper, as he wrote off what he was saying.
"O-one thirty-eight in the morning.. A new island has landed on the western coast, close to where I am. Too early to investigate... Will figure out some way to investigate later.." He wrote, occasionally looking up and shaking his head to check his sanity. He stepped to the side as he lay the book on a desk near the wall, then stepping back out to observe it with his bare eyes as he walked out of the building.
The moonlight dimly lit what looked like a shadow of a mountain. Nothing was really distinguishable, yet the fox looked on in wonder as the waves of the coast washed in and out. He stepped a little too close, getting a bit of water on his shoes as he backed off, scratching his head as he thought.
"With that kind of sound... wouldn't the whole city be drowned in water?" The fox spoke.
And being logical, it really should have, the noise was too loud to be a feather-like touch to the ground. With that kind of size there should have been at least a wave that went further than the coastline, if not being large and rather destructive.
"Is this.. an illusion? No, no.. that's impossible. At least.. I'd hope..."
Early Morning
The sun was beginning to rise. A few news outlets reported sightings of the new island at the coast, with a few words of an.. "Angel Island". Obviously, with the legendary name, most people who believed that claim assumed that the fabled echidna tribe lived there. But most didn't agree with either of those claims, as they were ancient religions in which had fallen out of the consciousness of many, besides a few people residing in the rural part of the prefecture. It was considered bogus.
A messy room. A messy apartment. Socks here and there, books and funny little toys and gadgets. A blue hedgehog lie in his bed, as a phone vibrates with an upbeat pop ringtone as his eyes swing open. He lets out a sigh as he rolls to reach the phone, then stopping the alarm. The hedgehog stretches with a yawn, then rubbing his eyes as he looked out of the front window.
As he did, his ears perked up. He shot out of bed as he rushed to the glass and stared out. He hadn't woken up during the night of the island's appearance, so needless to say he was surprised at the sudden appearance of a new body of land. He shook his head a few times, scratched his head. He noticed the crowd of people at the beach.
That's odd, the beach shouldn't be open yet.. Though, maybe it's that island. Wait, so I'm not crazy? The hedgehog thought, before turning away and getting shoes on, to find his way out.
As soon as he touched ground at the sidewalk, he bumped into the yellow fox mentioned earlier.
The blue hedgehog backed up. "Oh, sorry."
The fox wasn't phased, he just shrugged as he spoke. "Meh, it's nothing." They awkwardly just kinda looked at each other as they came upon a crosswalk. Some cars passed as they stood there. Then the fox continued to speak. "Uh, so where are you going?"
The hedgehog stretched more as he spoke. "Ah, just the beach or something. I mean, this new island seems like a pretty big sudden change in.. this place."
"Oh yeah," Tails perked up as he spoke. He pointed over to his place. "I have a workshop near the coast- I was one of the first to encounter the place. I'm about to go to the library and café, one place to read into this place and somewhere to eat. Lots of people are saying it's Angel Island. Not sure what to think, but it would be amazing if that was the case."
"Do work for the military?" Sonic asked, a little confused. "I hear they're trying like, to get on this thing. I'm wondering if you're like, part of the research group-"
"Nope, I just do this for my curiosity. Good question, though." They both went silent again as the cars passed and there was enough time to begin walking across. They trotted along, and when they got back on the sidewalk, the blue hedgehog stood as the fox went off. That is, before the hedgehog called out to him.
"H-hey!" He exclaimed, the fox stopping and turning around. The fox then quickly jogged back over.
"What is it?"
"Well, I'd like to know your name. You seem like a pretty cool kid." The hedgehog gave a cocky smile as he gave a thumbs up.
"T-Thanks, and it's Miles Prower. What's your name?" Miles had asked the hedgehog.
"Sonic's my name- and speed's my game! Nice to meet you.." he paused. "Say, what if I called you Tails? I think it'd suit you." He gave a little chuckle.
"I mean, it's fine, I see why it'd make sense," Tails responded, holding out his hand for a handshake to Sonic. "It's nice to meet you."
The blue hedgehog took Tails' hand and shook it with a bit of spunk, showing a cocky smile. "Nice to meet you too."
Tails gave a small smirk as he let go of Sonic's hand, waving as he began to walk away.. until he looked up to the sky.
As Sonic watched him look up, he followed his eyes up to the azure sky too. They widened as he saw what was floating above.
A yellow light, then followed by purple, cyan, red, green, blue and white lights flew up in the sky and rung around in a circle. They started off slowly, not very bright.. before the sky dimmed. More and more people stopped to look up at the sky as the lights began to glow brighter and circle faster. Sonic and Tails in particular were having quite the experience.
After a while of gazing at the sky, their vision seemed to sharpen. They seemingly became much more aware as their irises began to glow, leaving a slight trail as they shifted around in confusion, before a sudden pain in their heads formed.
Sonic and Tails stumbled a bit, Tails hitting a building and sliding down as he put his hands on his pounding head as he let out multiple grunts, while Sonic leaned his hand on a streetlight as his breathing went weird. Their world went silent, as a voice echoed.
"World... Chaos Emeralds... Missing.. Danger... Find them, Please.." a soft voice swept in and out of a distinguishable volume as the two's vision blurred, as their headaches prevented them from processing the words that were coming to them. A few seconds later, the headache faded, as the sound of the world came back. They were able to catch one more glimpse of the lights as they scattered, all heading in a bunch of different directions.
Their vision was back to normal, as their irises stopped glowing. For a few seconds, the whole town was silent. And then, people began to shout as they began to scramble.. somewhere.
Sonic turned to Tails before a chameleon sped by, almost hitting the hedgehog before he dashed to get the fox. He held out his hand as Tails grabbed on and stood up next to him, as he looked around, as eighteen different things were going on..
Sonic looked to the fox. "What.. happened?" He asked, his face full of surprise, shock and confusion.
"I-I'm not sure.." Tails began to stutter, still not directly meeting eyes with Sonic. "B-but, I think that something larger than us has just occurred..."

Whew! That was something to write! 1450 words of my first long form shōnen style story!
I plan on updating every Friday instead of at random, but for now, imma let y'all enjoy an early bit.
Please do give me feedback, I do want to make this the best story I can! I hope you all enjoyed this first chapter!
