( 25 weeks pregnant )
𝑱𝑶𝑺𝑯 and I are sitting on a bench on the second floor. Josh is reading a newspaper and I am looking at my phone and rubbing my bump. I see Riley come out of her room. She looks down at Maya and Lucas, and sits in between me and Josh.
"When do you start to understand your own feelings?" Riley asked
"Well, we just need some road miles to begin to understand who we are." Josh said
Josh folds up the newspaper and I put away my phone.
"How is it possible that Maya and I like the same boy?" Riley asked
I look at Josh before looking back at Riley.
"I'd be more surprised if you didn't." I said
"Why?" Riley asked
"Look, it's not hard to notice Maya's been going through some stuff lately." I said
"Yeah. She hasn't been herself for a while." Riley said
"Yeah. And why do you think that is?" I asked
"Because she became like me. I always wanted to be her and then she became like me." Riley said
"Now why would she do that? Huh? Why would someone give up who they are to be more like someone else?" Josh asked
"Could you just tell me?" Riley asked
Josh and I chuckle.
"I mean, I've got a pretty good guess. Look, you guys are the best friends I've ever seen. Okay? You love each other so much, you want to share each other's experiences." Josh said
"I do." Riley said
"Everything you do is to protect each other. When she gave up who she was, you went looking for her, you got her back, you protected her." I said
"Yeah, but why did she get lost in the first place? Why did she want to become like me? Why do we like the same boy?" Riley asked
"You don't, Riley, you don't." Josh said
"She's been trying to protect you." I said
Riley looks at us before rushing down the stairs. Josh walks downstairs and sits next to Lucas, and the two talk.

I see everyone heading over to the common area, so I make my way downstairs.
"You all deserve what you get." Cory said
Cory leaves the common area.
"Question number one..." Evan started
"If you could change your mate into one animal..." Riley started
"It's not even the same question." Evan said
"Why not?" Riley asked
"Because this is Who Belongs With Who, The Next Generation. This question's for you guys." Evan said
"Oh." Riley said
"The most important part of any meaningful relationship is, A, romance..." Evan started
"Yes, romance. Isn't that the whole point of a relationship?" Riley asked
"It says any relationship, it doesn't just mean you guys and Lucas." Farkle said
"Yeah, it also means relationships with your friends." Josh said
"So if the answer isn't romance, then what else you got?" Riley asked
"B, adventure." Evan said
"Yes, adventure. Break the rules." Maya said
"You don't have to break the rules to have an adventure." Lucas said
"What do you have against breaking the rules, Ranger Rick?" Maya asked
"That's who he used to be, Maya. Cost him a year of his life. I think maybe he's learned something." Zay said
"Read the other choice." Farkle said
"How do you know there is one?" Evan asked
"In multiple choice there are always the answers that are close, but then there's the correct answer and as soon as you hear it, you know it's right." Smackle said
"And I don't think we've heard the right answer yet, so I know the most meaningful part of any relationship is C." Farkle said
"One for us. Next question." Smackle said
"Can we please hear what C is?" Lucas said
"C, conversation." Evan said
"Ding." Smackle said
She stands up and holds her hand up for a high-five. Farkle stands up and hugs her.
"Even better. I love these now." Smackle said
"How come?" Maya asked
"Because Smackle and I have had so many good conversations now that I think she trusts me." Farkle said
"I do." Smackle said
"I like these, too." Farkle said
The couple sits down and Zay holds his arms out for a hug.
"So the most meaningful part of a relationship is talking to each other?" Riley asked
"And with the right person, sometimes you can talk all night." Evan said
"Yup, maybe so. Well, if y'all will excuse me, I'm gonna go over there and maybe, I don't know, kick a tree." Lucas said
He leaves the room and heads outside.
"Will y'all excuse me? I'm going to go over there and maybe, I don't know, save a tree." Zay said
He stands up and follows Lucas.
"Question number two. How do you know if you love somebody?" Evan asked
"You know what? I'm through playing games, I want to talk to you." Maya said
She stands up.
"Who?" Everyone asked
Maya grabs Josh's hand and drags him over to the bay window.
"I just need to think. Yeah, I just need to think." Riley said
She leaves the room.
"May I please see that book?" Farkle asked
"This book? Okay, what do you need to see this book for?" Evan asked
"Smackle, distract him." Farkle said
Smackle starts doing weird arm motions and Farkle grabs the book.
"'If you could change your mate into one animal...' Is this the same book from when Mister and Missus Matthews were here last?" Farkle asked
"You were making up the questions?" I asked
"Why would you do that?" Smackle asked
"Hi. I'm Evan, your friendly mountain guide. And I want to help people find the way to places they never thought they could reach before." Evan said
"How do you know so much about us?" I asked
"I was talking with Riley all night. You would think that for one second we could talk about her and me... but you guys were all she wanted to talk about." Evan said
I sigh and look at all the teens around me.
