Sam's POV
My heart sank into my stomach when the storm stopped and Evelyn was gone. She was now in 2019, where she belonged. I looked down, the fear returning when I realized the basement was still filling with water and I was still stuck.
I groaned as I tried to pull my leg free. "You've gotta be kidding me," I sighed under my breath.
"Hello?" I heard from above. "Is. . . Is someone down there?"
"Yes!" I yelled. "I'm down here."
I turned around to see a girl appear in the doorway. I instantly recognized her as Y/N. Her parents owned the main store in town and she was known for being particularly quiet.
"Sam?" She stuttered. "Is that you? What. . . What happened?"
"The beam collapsed on my leg," I explained. "I can't get it out."
"Okay," she stuttered again. She looked around, her eyes filled with fear. "Are you. . . Are you alone?"
My heart sank as I instantly thought of Evelyn. "Yes," I whispered. "It's just me down here."
"Okay," Y/N repeated. "I just. . . I um. . . Let me go get my dad. . . Or someone stronger than me. I'll be right back."
Y/N hesitated before turning on her heel and quickly leaving. I continued to struggle as the water got higher.
"Mr. Taylor?" I heard someone call out. I looked up to see Mr. Y/L/N looking down at me. Y/N was behind him with a boy named Steven. I instantly recognized him as their bagboy at the store.
"I'm down here."
"I can see that," Mr. Y/L/N chuckled. "Just hang on." He slowly and carefully made his way down. When they got to me, Mr. Y/L/N and Steven each grabbed an end of the fallen beam and gently lifted it. Once I was free, Y/N ran down the steps and helped me to my feet.
She wrapped her arm around my waist and helped me up the steps. When we got to the main floor of the house, Y/N helped me into the kitchen.
"I'll go get the doctor," Steven said as he ran out of the house.
"How did you get down there?" Mr. Y/L/N asked. I bit my lip, trying to think of a lie that they would believe.
"I heard something in my basement during the storm. When I went down to look at it, the entire basement was filled with water. I tried to go back upstairs but the beam collapsed."
"Well, don't worry. Everything is going to be okay," Mr. Y/L/N reassured. "Y/N sit with him while I go help Steven find the doctor."
Y/N and I watched as her father left. I turned towards her to see her blushing as we made eye contact.
"Thank you," I said, smiling at her.
"It was nothing," she said as she tucked a piece of hair behind her ear. "I was walking by and thought I heard someone calling for help."
"Well, you saved my life, Y/N. Thank you."

After Y/N saved me, I ended up seeing her around town more. It started with a few hello's and how are you's. Eventually, I gathered my courage and went to the shop.
"Sam?" Y/N smiled said as I walked in. "What can I do for you?"
"Well," I cleared my throat awkwardly. "Actually, I was wondering if I could take you out tonight."
"Take me out?" She repeated, her cheeks burning. "Like. . . to dinner?"
"Yeah," I shrugged. "Dinner and maybe dancing?"
"Sounds like fun."
That night, dinner and dancing, was our first date. After that, we started spending even more time together. Three months later, I was closer to her than I have ever been to another woman. Other than Evelyn.
Evelyn.
That was a secret that I've kept from Y/N. Every time I've thought of her or something has come up, I've debated telling her. I wanted to be honest with her, but I didn't want to lose her.
"You okay?" Y/N's soft concerned voice brought me out of my thoughts. "You've been kind of quiet."
"Sorry," I stuttered. "I just. . . Y/N, I have to tell you something."
"What is it?" She asked as she turned towards me.
I hesitated, gathering as much courage as I can. I looked at her smiling face, the fear of losing her growing.
"You're not gonna believe me," I whispered.
"Try me," she chuckled. Y/N watched me take a shaky breath and instantly grabbed my hands, intertwining our fingers.
"I'm from the future."
"You're what?" She asked, giggling slightly. She cleared her throat when she saw the seriousness on my face.
"I'm actually from the year 2019. I was helping my brother with construction on a house, my house now, and there was a barometer and a storm. . . Next thing I knew, I woke up here, in 1919."
"Sam," she interrupted me. "Slow down. You aren't making any sense."
"I know I sound crazy, but you just have to trust me. I wouldn't lie to you, Y/N. I know that this sounds unbelievable but. . ."
"I believe you," she interrupted me again. I laughed at the reassuring look on her face. I let out a sigh of relief as I grabbed her face and pressed my lips to hers. She giggled into the kiss as she started kissing me back.
"I love you," I whispered as I leaned my forehead against hers.
"I love you too, Sam."

I don't know why Y/N believed me, but she did. A few months later, Y/N and I were married and living in the house I came over in. I was happy and for the first time in years, I felt like I finally belonged.
I woke up with a start, shooting right up in our bed. I struggled to catch my breath as my eyes adjusted to the darkness.
"Sam? Honey? Are you alright?" Y/N sat up in bed, wrapping her arms around me. She gently cupped my cheek and turned my face towards her.
"She was ripped. . . It didn't work. . ."
"Sam," she said gently. "Breathe, baby. Everything is okay. You found the note she sent. Evelyn is fine. You're fine. It's okay."
I took a few deep breaths as I leaned my forehead against hers. She continued to whisper reassurances as I calmed down.
"Thank you," I whispered once my breathing had gone back to normal.
"Of course," she smiled as she leaned over and pressed a gentle kiss to my lips. "Try and get some sleep, okay?"
"I'll try," I chuckled. She kissed my cheek before laying back down. I tried to lay down and go back to sleep, but I couldn't get my mind to turn off.
I glanced over to see Y/N had fallen asleep. I quietly got out of bed, slipped on my jacket, and headed downstairs. I opened the box of mementos, my eyes scanning over the various objects.
My heart jumped into my throat when I saw the picture taken of Evelyn in her wedding dress. My hands were shaking as I reached for the picture. I gasped when I felt Y/N wrap her arms around me and leaned her chin on my shoulder.
"What do you think she's doing in 2019?" She whispered, slightly rubbing my arms.
"She always wanted to be a singer," I sighed. I turned around and she instantly wrapped her arms around my neck.
"Was she any good?"
"She was amazing," I chuckled. "When I went back, she had a record, an album. . . And a son."
"Really?" Y/N smiled. "I bet she is an amazing mother. I wonder who she ended up marrying."
"I don't know," I said under my breath, looking down at our feet. She used her finger to lift my chin, making me look at her. With a smile, she stood on her toes and pressed a gentle kiss to my lips.
When she pulled away, the look on her face dropped. She opened and closed her mouth, hesitating. "What is it?" I asked.
"Do you. . . Do you regret not going back with her?" She asked, her voice cracking.
"Y/N," I sighed, wrapping my arms tighter around her. "Of course not. I love you and I love our life together."
"Good," she said, her smile returning. "Because I have some news for you."
"What are you talking about?" I chuckled.
"Sam," she said slowly. "I'm pregnant."
"What?" I laughed, unable to contain my excitement. "You're. . . You're pregnant. We're having a baby?"
"Yep," she smiled, her eyes filling with tears. She gasped as I picked her up, spinning us around. She giggled as I finally put her down. I pressed my lips to hers, pulling her in for a long kiss.
I broke apart and leaned my forehead to hers. "I can't believe this is finally happening. Oh, my beautiful Y/N."
Y/N chuckled, happy tears streaming down her cheeks. I reached up, cupping both of her cheeks and wiping away her tears.
"I hope you don't ever question me regretting staying here with you. You have given me a home, a feeling of belonging, true love, and now a family. I've never been this happy, Y/N. I love you so much."
"I love you too, Sam."
