Chapter 20: Kali (awesome chapter if I do say so.)
It was any normal afternoon, after Jonathan had dropped me back into my room, and left for the rest of school, I sat and watched a show. I really wasn't watching it just listening to it while I scrolled on my phone looking for something to read on Wattpad. I just couldn't find anything, so I started writing down some of what had happened to me. I wasn't a very famous writer but I enjoyed writing. It was a break for me something that swept me to another world.
A knock on my door drew my attention away from my phone and I looked at the door.
"Miss Honting, you have some visitors would you like them to come in?" The nurse asks peeping her head in, I recognize her from this morning as the one that helped me.
"Of course." I answer thinking it's Sheridan that will step through the door, but if it was she would have just come right on in. Instead it's a middle age women I don't even know, and a middle age man I don't know as well.
"Oh Rick look at her." The women say's to 'Rick'.
"Hum can I help you?" I ask the couple
"Oh where are my manners, I'm Shelli Rowe, and this is my husband, Rick." She tells me. I nod my head but am still lost I don't make the connection till she say's this. "And you saved our son's life." And then my mind links Kaiden, Shelli and Rick together.
I just met Kaiden's parents.
"Oh dear, I'm so thankful for you, I don't think I'll ever be able to repay you. Where are your parents there must be something we can do, to help with these medical bills?" Mrs. Rowe asks.
"Honey you're scaring the poor girl." Mr. Rowe say's. And I have to agree with him, I am scared I'd never been in this predicament, luckily i've practice this lie millions of times.
"My parents are out of town on a cruise." I lie
"Oh well they must be on their way home?" Mrs. Rowe say's like a question.
"No, I'm afraid they haven't been informed." I lie again.
"Oh well they must have been, right?" She asks again.
"Where they are, they don't have reception. I think that's what the nurse said at least."
"Oh well I'm so sorry do you know when they are done with this cruise?"
"It's a six month tour so I guess they're halfway through." I attempt to shrug my shoulder
"Oh well that is quite lame, Rick where is that boy?" Mrs. Rowe questions.
"I would bet he's stalling." Mr. Rowe answer was quick.
"Kaiden?" I question.
"Oh yes dear we sent him to get something, that is all right, right?" Mrs. Rowe asks.
"Oh hum, yeah." I didn't want to be rude but Kaiden and I were not in the best position now.
"So what's your name, I feel so improper not knowing who saved my son." Mrs. Rowe questions.
"Kali Honting."
"Are you by chance related to Maily and Jack Hurling, you look just like them." I gulp, I want to tell her no I want to lie, but I can't something possess me to say, "Yes." I mutter it and hope she doesn't hear.
"Rick why don't you step out and go find Kaiden?" Mrs. Rowe say's more like a demand. Mr. Rowe just nods his head and steps out.
"You look so much like her." Mrs. Rowe say's as she walks closer to me.
"Who?" I question.
"Why your mother, Maily of course."
"I never said that she was my mother." I try to cover up my tracks no one had come this close.
"I know when someone is lying, I'm a mother. And I know your parents aren't on that cruise."
"How?"
"I use to be best friends with your mother, Maily and I were unseperable, but then in her senior year she started hanging with your dad. She once called me and told me we couldn't be friends anymore, I asked her why, and she say she was being threatened to. I asked her who but she never told me. I started suspecting it was your father, and I guess I was right, I should have said something but I couldn't. When I got the call a few years later after High school from your dad, I was scared. He asked me if I knew where Maily was, I told him I never saw her." She takes a break and sits down next to my bed. "The truth was she was living with me and Rick at the time, she said that your dad had threatened killing her and someone else. I never would have guessed who it was she was talking about till, she started showing. And then the day you were born, Jack showed up and took you away from your mom. She tried to fight for you the next years but she couldn't, without going back to him, so she left. And the only reason I know your her daughter is because she called me, about a week ago. She said that her daughter was in the hospital, but she couldn't go because then she would put you endanger. She also told me to tell you that your father is still out there looking for you."
"You're lying, my mother died she doesn't exist." I cry out.
"Shh . . . shh . . . She's alive and wants you to be safe, she loves you." Mrs. Rowe say's comforting me, standing up and gently rubbing my back, I grab her arms and cry harder, my mother knows me. She knows me. She knows I exist. She didn't leave me. A knock at the door startles both of us, she quickly but gently wipes my tears. And sits back in her chair. Right as Kaiden and Rick enter through the door. In kaidens hands are a boutique of candy, I smile at the generous thought, and he sets it next to all of my flowers and other stuff.
"So Kali, I think we came to an agreement, when you are excused from the hospital you're coming to stay with us." Mrs Rowe say's and the boys look shock, but the shock on Mr. Rowe face disappears easily, while Kaidens is there for and overwhelming time.
"Why?" Kaiden asks breaking the silence.
"Well, because I know her parents and they are going to be gone for quite a while, and I thought why not, she did save your life so you owe her, and we owe her. We've already lost one son, and we almost lost you Kaiden." Mrs. Rowe say's
"Don't say that you don't even know what you're talking about. You're so blinded by your stupidity that you don't even see that He is still in there. You act as if he's gone but he's in there, he's still the same person as he was before the accident. When will you open your eyes and see that mother? When?" Kaiden spits the words out as weapons
"Apologize." Mr. Rowe commands
"No, your even worse you go away for months and don't come back till we need it most. You go away with other women and don't have the guts to tell your wife at home. You leave us not knowing when you come back. I grew up wondering if you even loved me, and I know you don't, but you could start acting like you do. You go away and come back and act as if you're my father, well you're not. Get out of my life because you don't give a shiz and neither do I, if your gone." Kaiden say's then waits a few seconds before stepping out of the door shutting with a slam.
"Is it true?" Mrs. Rowe asks.
"I'm sorry." Mr. Rowe say's not even looking up at her. I'll admit I feel like I'm watching a dramatic show of some sort, like downtown abby, or even better, pretty little liars. Mrs. Rowe sobs some more then stands up but before leaving she removes her ring and throws it at Mr. Rowe.
"I thought you were better then that, but I don't know you anymore, keep the ring it doesn't mean anything to you anyways." She say's through tears before leaving. Mr. Rowe holds the ring tightly before looking at me.
"Your good for Kaiden, and he needs that, promise me something. You'll be the person I couldn't be, be someone that is his sturdy foundation. He never had that." And then Mr. Rowe leaves.
I pull out my lap top and replay the events in my head before jotting them down carefully. I get on Wattpad again and just write what I feel down.
A soft knock on my door startle my attention again, I look up at the door, after saving the one sentence I had managed to written in five minutes.
"Hey I'm sorry about earlier." Kaiden say's. I'll admit that I'm a little shocked to even see him I thought he left, but apparently didn't.
"Oh its fine, do you want to talk about it?" I ask. He nods his head then steps in taking a seat on the window seat.
"I just got so angry that I burst out, you know what I mean?" He asks, I nod my head I had gone there to many times. " Do you remember that time in 7th grade, where you got put in my cooking class, and you sat at that table alone thinking you could get away without having to even say hi to anyone." I nod my head and he smiles " Oh how you were so wrong, Mr. Gatling had it out for you and placed you in a kitchen full of lunatics." I laugh at how true this is. "But you weren't silent or in the background you fit right in. That's something that I like best about you Kali, you always look for the best in people, even those who have hurt you the most, and you make everything so easy looking, you took a bunch of guys and taught them to cook."
"To be fair you guys knew how to cook you just thought you looked cool not knowing how to do it."
"Oh how cool we thought we were, but I realized that Jonathan had it right, he acted normal, and easily won your attention."
"Jealous?" I asked sarcastically
"You wouldn't believe it." He say's back jokingly
"Do you want to do something?" I ask
"Sure what do you want to do?"
"I bet I could beat you in Monopoly." I smirk at his fake gasp of horror.
"Honting was that a challenge to Monopoly?" He asks
"Well, apparently your even to stupid to know what a challenge is."
"Well, challenge is accepted."
"It's on." I say with a wicked grin, as Kaiden grabs the monopoly board of the drawer.
"You're going down Honting."
"And I'm bringing you with me Rowe." I say back to him
So was I right was it awesome, I hope you got to see a little bit of Kaidens family from this chapter
