Your POV
"Jaguar! Iss time tah get up!" Race yelled through my door. "I'm up I'm up! Don't get ya trousas in a twist Race." He laughs. "Come on, cowboy is waitin' on ya, and he ain't happy bou' it." I sigh. "I'll be out in five. Ise gotta change first." I hear footsteps walk away and I get dressed. I put on a baggy shirt to hide my obvious femaleness, I tuck my hair into my cap and I head out.
I get out there and Jack looks at me annoyed. "Took ya long enough Jaguar, we ain't got all day. Wese got papes tah sell." He whacks the back of my head and he starts walking. I put my hand on the back of my head and sigh. Boys don't cry Jaguar. Boys don't cry. I bite back my tears and walk behind them.
"Youse alright Jag?" I turn and see Mush. I give him a small smile. I drop my voice a little. "I'm all good Mush. Jus a little tired. Ise promise." He doesn't look convinced, but he doesn't push it either. He walks faster and catches up with the others. I sigh again as we get there. Jack begins teasing and angering Mr. Wiesel, as usual. I get up there and smile a little. I put a quarter down.
"Hunned papes please Mista Wiesel." "Ah, Jaguar, the nicer Kelly. How you doin' kid?" "Coulda had a worse mornin', at least I didn't go to sleep on an empty stomach. Complainin' ain't gonna get me nowhere so why waste my breath doin' it? Right Mr. Wiesel?" He chuckles and hands me my papers. "Right you are Jaguar. Good lucky today kid." With that he waves me off.
Try Bottle Alley or the harbor.
I sigh and head that way. I read the headlines. These ain't no good. Gotta make Em betta I guess. I began shouting articles adjusting the truth just a little. I wasn't doing very good here, selling one paper every ten minutes.
Try Central Park it's guaranteed.
I move to my next selling spot, doing a little better but not much. This ain't good. I really don't wanna go hungry tonight. Ise barely eatin' enough as it is.
Try any banker, bum, or barber.
They almost all knows how to read.
I start heading to those places finally selling papers. I offer smiles to them trying to sell more. I try to meet up with the others to sell more papers. I meet up with a bunch.
Ain't it a fine life carrying the banner through it all?
Mush takes a look at my stack and chuckles. "Not doin' so hot tahday are ya Jag?" "Oh stuff a sock in it Mush." I shove him slightly, with a small smile. He chuckles again and holds his hands up in defense. "Cat's gotta scratch doesn't he?" I laugh. Idiot.
~Timeskip~
I sigh as I get to my room, I look at my stack. Thirty papes left... I sigh and look at the money I had. At least I have enough tah get a somewhat decent meal... There's a knock at my door. "Yo, Jag, all dah boys who sold enough ahe goin' tah Tibby's, ya in?"
"Ise not sure Boots... I don't think so made enough this time 'round...." I hear him sigh. "Cowboy messin' wit ya head again?" "It ain't that Boots... Ise not dat hungry... I don't have enough anyways.... go have fun Boots." He sighs again. "Youse Can always come join us Jag, wese family 'ere." With that I hear footsteps walking away.
I sigh. I climb out my window and use the pipes to get to the roof, I walk over and stand at the edge. I pick up a rock that was on the roof and chuck it. I sigh again. If only there was a way Ise could prove myself to 'im.
