My Fault

"We're too late." Mike spoke, as the alarm began blaring through the halls. Addison forced her eyes closed, clamping her hands over her ears in an attempt to block out the sound.
Addison stumbled behind Mike as he grabbed her by her elbow and roughly pulled her along with him towards Joyce.
"What's going on?" To Addison, Joyce's voice came through muffled through her covered ears.
"We're under attack."
"What? Mike, what does that mean?" Panic flashed in Joyce's eyes as her voice raised an octave.
Ignoring her question, he picked up a needle from the table and read the label. "We need to make Will sleep."
"Why?" Addison asked, peeking through one eye.
"He's a spy!" Mike said as if it were obvious, "If he knows where we are, so does the shadow monster."
"He's lying!" Will shouted, his face turning red as tears began to pool in his eyes. "He's lying! Addison, he's lying!"
"He killed those soldiers! He'll kill us, too."
"Stop it.." Addison begged, her fingers diggging into her hair. "Stop it!"
"He's lying! He's lying! He's lying!" Addison squeezed her eyes shut, letting out quiet whimpers as gun shots rang out through the hallway.
"Those are gunshots!" Bob shouted over Will.
"Okat, Will! Will, listen. Listen, do you know who I am?" Joyce held him by his shoulders as she asked. "Do you know who I am?"
"You're.." Will trailed off, searching the woman's face for recognition. "You're-You're mom!"
"Hold him down." Joyce stood up, taking the needle from Mike's hand.
"No, no! Let go! Let go! No. Let me go! Addison! Addison, please help me. Please don't let them hurt me." Will turned his attention onto her, "Please! Addie, you promised! You're a liar! You're a liar! You promised me!"
Addison turned her back towards him, sinking to her knees as she tried to focus on one sound.
It was all becoming too much for her. She shouldn't have come here. It was a mistake.
Mike stared straight ahead, unable to take his eyes off of the scene. The door slammed open, startling Addison. She stumbled back onto her butt, trying to control her breathing.
"We gotta go. We gotta go." Hopper spoke, staring at the door at the end of the hallway. "Now!"
Mike wrapped his hand around her shoulder, pulling her to her feet and roughly forcing her to move with him. Addison nearly tripped over her own feet as the blaring sirens flooded her senses.
"Just focus on me, Addie." He spoke quietly, just loud enough for her to hear. "Don't have a seizure!"
Machine gun fire caused her to freeze as Mike's eyes found hers, assessing her reaction to the sudden sounds.
"Cover your ears!" He shoved her into a room, holding his hands over hers. "Listen, you cannot have a seizure right now. Okay?"
She nodded, trying to block out the distant screaming. Addison focused on her breathing, trying to tune out any sounds around her.
A yelp escaped Addison's lips as the power cut out around them, leaving them in darkness. Her knees buckled from under her and she fell, catching herself with the wall.
The howling continued around them, seeming to increase as Addison struggled to focus on one thing to avoid an unwanted seizure.
Another two rounds of gunfire is what triggered it, followed by a feminine scream and a monster's howling.
Addison's eyes rolled into the back of her head, her body dropping to the ground.
Mike's eyes widened, pure panic flooding through him as he watched her body began to convulse violently.
Mike dropped to his knees beside her, "Ho-Hopper!"
The man turned around, his eyes immediately falling onto Addison's convulsing body. "Damnit!"
He began speaking out orders loudly, telling Joyce and Bob to focus on Will.
Mike held his hands around her head, remembering her saying something about choking on her tongue a few weeks back.
He hovered his head, before Hopper pushed him gently but sternly to the side. "What? You tryin' to kill her?"
The man pushed her by the back so that she was laying on her side.
"Wh- That's what we did last time!" Mike threw his arm up, the one that wasn't supporting him from falling onto the ground.
Addison's body continued to convulse violently, and Mike was sure his heart must have stopped by now.
"Then you got lucky!" Hopper held her arm, only tight enough to prevent her from rolling onto her stomach.
Minutes passed painfully slow as Addison's body slowly stopped convulsing.
Mike let out a sigh of relief as he let himself fall onto his back. "Oh, thank God."
"You okay, kiddo?" Hopper leaned over her, "Had us real scared for a minute."
"Why am I on the ground? What happened?" She ignored the cop's question, groaning as she pushed herself into a seated position.
"You had a seizure, dear." Joyce frowned, her gaze sympathetic.
"Oh.. I did? Oh, my gosh. I'm so sorry, guys. I-I tried to stop it, I really did! Oh, god.. I'm so sorry! I-I.. Are we gonna die now? If we do, it'll be- It'll be all my fault! I'm so sorry!" Addison rambled, covering her face with her hands as tears began
"Sorry? You're sorry?" Mike scoffed, standing up, "You shouldn't be sorry, Jesus."
"Bu-But-" Addison furrowed her eyebrows as Mike pulled her up from the ground. He held her by her shoulders to keep her up, knowing that she gets dizzy for a few minutes after one of her seizures.
"No. No sorrys. I'm tired of those." Mike interrupted, glancing at Hopper as he began to have a heated conversation with the doctor they were with. "Do you have any idea how worried I was? Damnit, Addison."
Addison bit her lip, looking down at her pink shoes. Pain shot at her heart and spread through her body as she coiled in on herself. "Ri-Right.."
"The locks are fail secure."
"Fail secure?"
"If there's a power outage, the building goes on lockdown."
"Can it be unlocked remotely?" Bob asked.
"With a computer, sure, but somebody's gotta reset the breakers." He explained briefly.
"Where are the breakers?"
"Breakers are in the basement, three floors down."
"Hey, where are you going?" Bob asked after Hopper took the map and walked towards the doors.
"To reset the breakers."
"Okay, then what?"
"Then we get out of here."
"No, then the power comes back on!"
"If you want to unlock the doors, you have to reboot the computer system, and then override the security codes with a manual input."
Addison felt dizzy again at how fast Bob was spitting out words. Confusion flashed in her eyes as she listened to him speak, not comprehending any of tit.
"Fine.. how do I do that?"
"You can't! Not unless you know BASIC."
"Basic what?" Addison titled her head, "Wait, like the-"
"Yeah, I don't know what that means." Hopper shook his head.
"It's a computer programming language." Mike answered.
"Teach it to me."
"Teach it to y-"
"Shall I teach you French while I'm at it, Jim?" Bob shook his head, "How about a little German?"
"Oh! I wanna learn Japanese. I know a little bit."
"How about you, Doc? You speak BASIC?"
The doctor took a deep breath, "No."
"Okay, I got this." Bob nodded his head, as if reassuring hinself. "I got this."
Joyce frowned, pulling him into a tight hug. "It's gonna be okay. Remember, Bob Newby, superhero."
Addison closed her eyes, taking a deep breath as she covered her ears when Bob and Hopper left. The sound of the door closing caused Addison to drop her hands from her ears, letting them fall to her side.
"Ugh, I hope Max is okay." She murmered, groaning to herself as she rubbed her forehead.
"Max? What?" Mike tilted his head, "Why Max Why would you care about her?"
"We-Well, because!" Addison shoved her hands into the yellow jacket pockets, "She's my first girl friend, after you know who, a-and I really dont wanna lose that, you know? 'Cause all of you are great, yea-yeah, but-"
The lights flickering on interrupted her rambling, causing her to let out a puff of air.
"He made it." Mike smiled, letting his head fall back in a moment of relief. "He made it.."
The doctor sat down, pressing a button on the radio. "Okay, Bob, can you hear us?"
"Loud and clear. Can you hear me?"
"We hear you."
Addison couldn't help but grin widely at this, "Mike! We're gonna be okay, we're all gonna be okay!"
A loud buzzing sound, followed by the doctor saying it's open.
"Hold on a second chief." The doctor pointed at something on the computer screen, "The west stairwell's not clear anymore."
"No, no, no."
"What's goin' on?" Bob's voice crackled through the speaker.
"We got some company."
"Where?"
"West stairwell."
"I got an idea."
"What the hell is he doing?"
Addison watched as water sprayed from the ceilings, causing the monsters to run away. "Huh.. smart."
"Okay, okay.. That worked. Now, get out of there. Go, go!"
Hopper picked up Will's unconscious body, throwing him over his shoulder.
"Wait a second, take this." He said, handing Hopper a radio.
"What are you doing?"
"Anymore surprises, I'll let you know." He jutted his thumb towards the computer. "Go.. Go!"
The only sound filling Addison's ears was their footsteps echoing around the now eerily empty building.
A sigh of relief escaped her lips as Hopper pressed the button for the door to open.
The cold air nipped at her face, but she welcomed it with a deep breath. The moonlight illuminated her features as she raised her face towards the sky, her arms spread wide.
"Holy moley, Mike! We're alive!" She cheered, running her hands through her hair as if she didn't believe it.
Her joy was soon tarnished by the sound of Joyce's screams. Hopper opened the door with the gun, his face falling at the sight in front of him.
"Bob.." Addison muttered at the sound of gunshots, not being able to look through the the glass door.
"No! Bob!"
"What happened?" Mike asked, though Addison was sure he already kmew.
"He's gone! He's gone!" Hopper shouted over Joyce's anguished cries.
The sound of a horn honking caused Addison to whip her head to the right.
"Is that.. Jonathan?"
"Come on! Get in!" Jonathan shouted over the car's honking. Addison rushed towards the car, opening the door and practically throwing herself in.
Her back hit the door, "Oomph!"
As Mike climbed in, he pushed her feet down. "Strap the hell in, Addison."
She nodded her head shakily, barely being able to click the seatbelt in. Almost as soon as the door shut behind them, Jonathan floored the gas pedal.
Addison could feel her heart beating out of her chest, sweat dripping down her forehead as she tried to control her breathing.
"I-I.." She stammered under her breath, "I can't believe I'm not dead."
