🏃ABC Race 🏃

48 4 2
By -Nynaeve

Acrobatic and amazing A, was confident of the race,
But, bouncy, buoyant B knew he could keep pace;
Charming, charismatic C was the epitome of grace,
Diminutive and dreamy D just stood in his place.

Elegant and enchanting E felt she would win,
Fearless, feisty F wore a confident grin;
Grave, grouchy G stood tall and thin,
Hardy, hotheaded H in his place did spin.

Icy and irreverent I stood apart and alone,
Jaunty and jolly J munched on a jam scone;
Keen yet knackered K, on the track, lay prone,
Lean and lissome L chewed his fingers to the bone.

Majestic and magnificent M cut a fine figure,
Narcissist, nervous N wore tracks like an armour;
Oblivious, octogenarian O caused quite a stir,
Persnickety, petite P smelled strongly of myrrh.

Quirky, quaint Q was quite the beauty queen,
Regal, royal R wore a crown on his bean;
Sardonic, saturnine S looked a bit mean,
Testy, tempestuous T made many a scene.

Unconventional U carried an umbrella,
Vivacious V was an expert in the villanella
Wealthy, worldly W, on the race, put a quinella,
Xenodochial X, kept munching on mozzarella.

Young and yielding was Y, yet had a determined glint,
Zesty and zealous Z, though last, was fresh as a mint;
All the alphabets, ready to race, took off in a sprint,
Yet even after a day, of the winner, there was no hint.

It was the greatest race there ever was, though no winner was found;
For the alphabets kept running in circles, all over the racing ground.

This was written for the Week of November 15 prompt by the TeamofDreams, where one had to write an ABC poem about '...the greatest race there ever was.'

Now I am not sure why I had to write what I wrote about, a race of the 'personalised' alphabets, but I thoroughly enjoyed writing it out (adjectives with 'x' was a tad difficult and finding words that rhymed with umbrella, but hopefully, I passed muster.)

Update: January 20, 2020 - And this poem won first place in the Team of Dreams Poetry contest (random genre, originally entered in Humour genre 😊)
