My heart races as I run through the forest. The Killers are following me, because I had run into them. I clamber up a tree, my breathing wild. I turn and look at all the Speeders below me trying to get into the tree with me. I grab the handgun attached to my side and take it out of it’s holster. I point it down at the Killers and wait until I get a good shot. But, they keep moving and jumping and I cannot shoot without HUGE possibility of shooting the ground, and ammo is sparse in Denver. I wait and what seems like just seconds later, I get my opportunity as one stops right at the trunk of the tree and tries to climb up with its clammy hands. I try to react quickly and I point at it’s balding head and pull the trigger.
It flops down and the body crumples onto the park’s dead grass. The others see this and react to the huge noise that has been made. They begin to circle my tree, and I realize I don’t have enough bullets to get past the mob awaiting me if I fall. I don’t want this to happen and I look out to the crumbling High-Rise buildings and all the magnificence of the land surrounding it. As I turn back to look at the Killers, I see my escape, a tree with an overhanging branch that I could leap to. I grab my stuff and get ready to jump.
