The mud squelched beneath their feet. As they passed through the ancient hallways the menacing paintings stared back at them. Skeleton-like hands reach out at their ankles and chains beat the floor...
It was a bright and almost enchanting day. Sasha relaxed in the sun enjoying every minute of it. While Natasha twirled around in her newly bought, fresh summer dress. The sun burned brightly, covering every inch of their bodies with warmth and delight. Beads of sweat traveled down and dripped from their chins. Natasha's summer dress stuck to her skin as she sat down, her breath fast and sharp as she fanned herself. As they looked up to the sky, the clouds moved as the sun was slowly setting. The air was still humid as they started to walk indoors.
The wind started picking up speed and they ran inside to make sure they didn't get caught in a storm (if one was coming). Confused, as to how the temperature dropped so fast, they sighed and walked away from the back garden door. They shut the curtains and slowly walked upstairs.
Ready for bed, the two girls laid down (thump) then through the night, they restlessly tossed and turned not knowing why they couldn't sleep. Natasha quietly and cautiously, like a mouse, tiptoed out of bed. She walked up to the window, staring out of it, hoping to see something to spark her creativity. She stared out at the forest, the trees waved violently in the wind. Droplets of water that have evaporated left marks on the window, her breath filled up the glass with hot air as she pressed her face against it. As she peered closer, in between the branches she saw a bony hand wrap around a branch, latching on with heavy force and then she saw...
"What are you doing?" Sasha whispered. Natasha jumped away from the window, almost falling over. "Sasha! You scared me, what the hell dude?!" She whisper-shouted. "Sorry, but you still haven't told me what you were doing." Sasha raised an eyebrow with an annoyed look on her face.
"Ok ok. I couldn't sleep so I was looking out at the forest for some QUIET moments." She shot her sister an annoyed look.
"Ok well, have you seen anything..interesting?"
"Um..well I kinda..thought I saw..a hand? Uh..grabbing the tree..Look I know it's stupid don't even ask I'm probably just tired so leave it!" She sat down in frustration not knowing what was true and what wasn't. "Well, I believe you...because I saw a hand too but I also saw..eyes glaring back at me.." Sasha explained.
Both girls sat in silence as they tried to make sense of what they both saw. But they never knew what was going on far beyond the forest....
