I was on the plane to Seattle, Jacob by my side, and Emmett and Edward sitting in front and behind us, Edward behind and Emmett in front. The flight seemed long and tedious and I couldn’t sleep, even though my body screamed for it.
I leaned onto Jake, and he never once let go of my hand. He just hummed into my ear and stroked my head. I noticed he was humming La Nanita Na Na, the Spanish lullaby that my mother had often sang to me when I had nightmares. I often looked up to see Edward looking at me while Jacob was asleep; he looked worried, and sometimes protective.
I didn’t really understand it, and it creeped me out a little, but I felt better knowing that I had both werewolf and a vampire looking after me, but what I really didn’t want was to become another Bella, but this time around, it’d be Edward who got his heart broken. Most of me doubted that, that was what Edward was seeing me as, but a tiny part of me imagined the possibility. Both he and Emmett treated me way nicer than their siblings did. I hadn’t really ever talked to Alice or Jasper or Rosalie, but when I tried, they just disregarded me.
I didn’t really mind it though, I wished that everyone could get along, even though my hate for Bella pulsed through me with a passion and made me want to rip her head off every time I saw her, it doesn’t mean that we can’t at least try to patch together the hole that had been created with the two groups somehow. I felt that I should be that patch, I felt like I should be the one to fix it. Bella could’ve been that one, but in my eyes she only made it worse.
I just wanted everyone to be happy, even if it meant me having to sacrifice myself. I knew this wasn’t my battle, but if I was going to be a part of this world, I wanted to contribute just as much. Although I knew Jacob wouldn’t be too happy if I did, I just wanted to try and fix the void. I wanted to leave behind as much of a good foot print after what Bella did… I just wanted to fix it.
“Uh, I know we’re about to land, but may I talk to you for a second?” Edward came over to me after I set Jake’s arm off of me, he was asleep.
“About what?” I looked at him trying to read his face… blank.
“About when we get to Seattle, I just need to make sure you get the agenda, without any distractions.” He looked at Jacob, then back at me.
“Fine, I don’t mind, and I’m sure he won’t either.” I leaned over and kissed Jake on the temple and got out of my seat. I walked to the back with Edward and squeezed into the tight space behind the food carts. It was a tight fit. My hands were pressed against Edward’s chest and he had his hands above me, we looked strange. I looked at him and I could tell he was uncomfortable.
“Can you tell me why we couldn’t have just stayed in our seats?” I gestured towards where we were sitting. “I mean, this looks a little bad. We are way close, can we just go sit back down?” I looked in his eyes, and they darted away from me. What’s going on with you, Edward Cullen? He finally looked back at me, and his eyes ,brilliant topaz, they shined like diamonds as they pierced into what seemed to be my soul.
“I honestly don’t know, but all of this… I don’t really know how to explain it, and I know this won’t help with all of us trying to be friends and everything but…” he paused and I watched as his perfect marble forehead slowly creased inward. He looked back towards the isle in deep thought, and I couldn’t help but notice the troubled look he held, like he was debating something internally.
“What is it? The plane is going to land in a couple minutes; we should go sit back in our seats now. I think Jacob is going to wake up.” I shifted and wiggled out of the small space, Edward followed me and I felt a stare. This one was similar; in fact very similar to the one Jacob gave me at the beginning of the year, except Jacob was asleep. This time… it sent cold, vibrating chills down my spine.
I turned around, to see Edward quickly look at the ground. I knew that action, and that slightly embarrassed look on his face. This was not okay. I can’t have him observing me, not when I’m about to meet a pack of werewolves, not when I’m about solve the problem between the Cullen’s and the Quileute Indians, or at least try... This was unacceptable. I knew why he was watching me; I knew why he brought me back there, to get close to me.
It irritated me, and I knew I had to talk to him about it, but if I was wrong… I would be more than glad. But I wasn’t going to talk to him about it now, Jacob was awake and the plane was landing.
“Don’t worry, that’s not why, I promise… but you do smell good, if I may say. Like vanilla and pears, very sweet and fresh. I kind of liked being stuck back there with you.” Edward leaned from behind me and whispered into my ear so that only I could hear, and see him. I chuckled and he did too. Thank god Cullen, I thought I was going to have to kick your ass, I thought to Edward. He laughed.
“I like to see you try Barnes, I would like to see you try.” He kicked the back of my seat.
“Hey! You ass wipe!” I batted him from my seat and he laughed, dodging me easily. Jacob looked at me amused.
“Well I see you two are getting along, what’d I miss?” he leaned over and hugged me around the waist, and I kissed him on the lips. He bit my lip and I hit him, even though I loved it when he bit me, it made me shiver. He laughed and the flight attendant came and told us to, please sit in our seats. We all tried not to crack up as she walked past us, clearly annoyed with our teenage antics.
I was so happy when we landed, I dashed out of the corridor and yelled,
“SWEET SWEET LAND, HOW I’VE MISSED YOU SO!!!” I laid down on the ground and watched as people laughed/ stared at me. Jacob walked out and picked me up off of the ground. He slung me on his shoulder and walked past all the people saying,
“Sorry, sorry about that, we’re trying to get her off the hormones.” Edward and Emmett laughed and I pouted and hit Jacob on the back while he bounced me up and down. As soon as we got away from the crowds of staring people Jake set me down.
“So, here’s the agenda, you’re going to ride with me to my house and Edward and Emmett are going to follow. You can stay in my room,” Jacob started to explain once we were in the parking lot. We skipped over baggage claim because my bag still counted as a carry on. I couldn’t help but notice all of the side glances that Edwards was giving me while we spoke. Ugh, take a picture, it lasts longer!!
He darted me a cold look and I ignored it. Jake filled me in with all the rest of the details and told me I’d be going to the high school on the rez. I sighed in relief. From what I’d heard about forks high school from Jacob and Emmett, I didn’t think I’d like being the new person…
I screamed when I saw my car parked across from us.
“Ahhhh!! You brought my baby up!! Omg, I love you even more now!!” I jumped on Jake and planted a big wet one on his awaiting lips, and he greedily returned the favor. I felt Edwards cold stare on me, and I flipped him off. Emmett laughed his enormous booming laugh that echoed through the space.
“Awwwww, is someone jealous?” Emmett teased Edward. Jacob laughed and carried me to my baby and got in the driver’s seat.
“What did he mean by that, that Edward was jealous?” Jacob asked as he pulled out of the space. I laughed nervously, because I knew Jake well enough to know he had a temper, and if he knew that Edward was crushing on me, he’d tear him to shreds, no questions asked.
“Well, Emmett has this theory that Edward has a crush on me because during the whole flight, he not once stopped looking at me, and because he said I smell good.” I shrugged, and Jacob looked like he would burst into a million pieces, and make sure that every single one tore into Edward. “Jake, it’s not a big deal, calm down sweetie. Besides, even if he did like me, I’d never choose anyone over you.” I rubbed Jake’s arm and his hands relaxed on the wheel.
“I know, it’s just that… how could he do that to Bella? They’re married for cripes sake! I don’t like that, he should be happy he has her, instead of trying to get at you.” He shook his head and drove a little faster. I sighed, I mean it wasn’t like it had been confirmed or anything, it was just a hunch.
Ew… Edward Cullen has a crush on me. XP I laugh at the thought, hahaha! Ha…?
We pulled into a small pathway that had a little red house at the end of it, there was a small garage, and I noticed the huge crowd of people waiting on and around the porch. My stomach flipped at all of the people. I don’t do well in front of crowds. Jacob, being in tune with my every emotion, noticed this and squeezed my hand.
“Don’t worry baby, they’re going to love you, I know it. How can anyone not love you?” he leaned over and kissed my cheek. I felt slightly better, but then all the butterflies came back when we pulled in front of the house and they all stared at the car. My windows were slightly tinted, so it was hard for people to see our faces completely.
“oh wait… we never told them that we were coming. Shit, I knew I was forgetting something.” Jacob mumbled, thinking I couldn’t hear him.
“What! Jacob, how could you possibly forget to tell them that we were coming?! You can’t just drop in on people like that!” I said to Jacob gripping his hand tighter. I had no idea why I was so nervous, but my heart pounded in my ears as Jacob opened his door.
"well, we're already here. no need to fret about it." he said as he reached to open the door. i forgot to let go of his hand for a second, but he just kissed it and told me not to worry.
As soon as he got out, everyone’s faces looked shocked and then one of them ran towards him and hugged him, it was a woman. She was gorgeous, except for the three long scars that went down the left side of her face and most of her left arm. Then I started to recognize people from the stories that Jacob told me, and I knew that was Emily. then i noticed all the guys, and i could clearly pick out all of the pack boys, Jared, Seth, Sam, Paul, and I saw Leah. After a few more hugs and friendly punches, Jake pushed everyone away from him and walked over to my door.
“Thanks guys, I’ve missed you all, but if you guys haven’t noticed yet, there’s someone I want you all to meet.” He said as he opened my door. I looked in his eyes as he reached his hand out. I took it timidly, all of my shyness rushing forward at full force making my cheeks hot, and stepped out of my car. He winked and smiled hugely, then he pulled me from behind the door.
“Everybody, this is Mackenzie, my imprint. Mackenzie, this is my family.” He beamed as he introduced me. They all looked at me with different expressions. Some of them looked excited (Emily and Seth) some of them looked approving, (Paul and Jared) and some with appreciation (Sam and Leah), and especially when I got to Jacob’s dad, Billy Black. His face was lit up and his wrinkled face glowed with a smile that spoke, “my son is finally happy.” I was suddenly overpowered by all of the love that surrounded me that my nervousness disappeared.
“Hi, it’s so great to finally meet you all. Jacob’s told me a whole lot about you.” I smiled and soon was stormed by hugs, and ‘WELCOME TO THE FAM-A-LAY!’s, followed by numerous hair ruffles.
“Ugh, my hair! Stop it guys!” I said batting away Paul and Jared’s hands, but soon all of the games and fun came to an end as the boys and Leah perked their heads up and sniffed the air, their faces scrunched and Jared whispered,
“Leeches,” and sure enough Edward and Emmett came out from the forest. The boys all went to stand in front of me and Emily, but Jake told them to back off.
“It’s cool you guys, they’re only here to help. I should’ve called you all first, but we need to have a pack meeting. Sam, this is important, Kenzie’s life could be in danger, and this was the safest place to bring her. I’ll fill you in with the details later.” Jacob told the pack. Sam nodded to the two vampires who stood just a few feet away now, Edward hovering especially close. Ugh…
“what about them?”
“I’ll explain that later also, but right now I think we should all just relax for a while.” Jacob told Sam as he noticed Edwards’ closeness and pulled me in towards him.
'we're just gpoing to keep watch for now, then we'll meet with you back here in, lets say two hours?" emmett said to jake and we all nodded. I walked inside of the cozy house, and walked up the stairs. Jacob was right behind me with my bag. We closed the door behind us when we got inside his room, and I plopped down on his bed. I took off my hoodie, revealing my pink and black polka dotted bra, and he lay down beside me, eyes locked onto my tummy.
“You have a cute belly button, you know that?” he said as he began to trace my stomach with his fingers. I laughed, partially because he just told me that my belly button was cute, and partially because I was ticklish.
“I do? What exactly does a cute belly button look like?” I said putting on my ‘Bambi’ look. He smiled and said,
“Like this one.” He poked my tummy and went down and put his face on my stomach. I sat up and he just adjusted, putting his hands on my hips. He kissed my stomach, tracing around my belly button, just before he blew hard giving me a razz berry.
“Hahahaha, what the hell Jake?” I said in between laughs. He laughed as he started tickling me up and down my stomach. I was really ticklish, and I couldn’t breathe.
“Jake! Stop ahhh! I can’t… breathe!” he stopped immediately, his eyes apologetic. “no, it’s okay Jake, I like it when your hands are all over me.” I gave him a suggestive eyebrow wiggle, and his eyes lit up.
“Hmmm… I think I’m going to take a shower now…” I said as I sat up and stretched.
“Mind if I join you?” he asked suddenly, and I whipped my head around and looked at the eager expression on his face. I thought about it for a sec then decided,
“Eh, why not?” I smiled and he jumped up and grabbed me from behind, laying kisses on my neck as he whispered, "damn i love you.". I giggled at his excitedness and partially because I was nervous as holy fucking shit. I was going to be naked in the shower with Jacob… naked. Well, I thought to myself. If I’m going to do this, I might as well have fun with it. I decided to tease him as I wriggled out of his grasp and walked slowly out the door, making sure to emphasize my figure as I walked. Damn I loved my hips.
I looked behind me and Jacob’s jaw was hitting the ground. I stood behind the door frame and poked my head out.
“Are you coming?” I said as I stuck out my finger and lured him in. He snapped out of it and grinned, and practically ran over to the doorway. I dashed towards the bathroom and stood in front of the door, my hands caressing the frame. Then I turned around and unbuttoned my jeans and let them drop to the ground. He stood there and bit his lip, sooo adorable. He lumbered towards me and put his hand on my hips, then he crashed his lips down on mine and I pushed him off of me.
“Don’t spoil all the fun out here, we still have to get in the shower you know.” I smiled devilishly at him and pushed the door open. He quickly closed it behind him and I reached for his shirt, pulling it off with ease. Then I reached down for his shorts buttons, but he already had them off. “oh, quick are we? you think you could pull a fast one on me?” I asked, making sure I sounded just as suggestive as I was trying to be, I wanted to break him.
“Aww, why are you doing this to me?” Jacob pouted just as he picked me up and sat me down on the sink, kissing me down my neck, my collar bone… “Mmmh, the blood sucker was right. You smell incredible…”
“Number 1: cause it’s fun, ” I said catching my breath as he trailed more kisses along my chest. “A...and number 2: I know I smell irresistible.” I smirked and he looked up at me playfully as he reached for my bra straps.
“May I?” he asked me. I nodded slowly wrapping my arms around his neck. I felt it slip down and he lifted me off of the sink and turned on the water for our shower. Once it heated up he got inside, with me still straddling his waist. I put my feet on the linoleum surface of the shower/bathtub and took off my underwear. I looked at his face admiring me adoringly.
“You’re so beautiful…” he said as he held me close to him. I sat there in the comfort of his warm body. Felt small electric shocks hit me wherever or skin touched, which was all over. He slipped off his boxers, which were now soaked, and threw them over the shower door. i took a few minutes to admire all of his muscles and how tall he really was. even though i was 5' 9", he stood practically a foot above me. he kissed me softly and i twisted my fingers in his hair.
after a few minutes I grabbed his shampoo off of one of the shelves and grinned at him playfully.
“Time to give the doggy a bath...”
