lilia was a nervous wreck.
she couldn't stop looking out the window of the limousine, seeing the crowd of people lining up outside the theater and venue where the premiere was being held. it wasn't her first premiere, and she had attended many large-scale studio's premieres, but this was the first one where all eyes would be on her. the pep talk she's given herself in the mirror moments before leaving had quickly faded into the back of her mind, and she now sat anxiously inside the vehicle, dreading stepping out. what if she tripped? what if she froze on camera? what if the movie was terrible and her career was ruined?
however, all these thoughts quickly slipped out of her mind when she felt a strong yet gentle hand place itself on her knee, and she looked over at tom sitting beside her, seeing how anxious she was. he gave her a reassuring smile. "this is what we've worked for, lil," he told her. "enjoy this moment. i'll be right there behind you the entire time."
she nodded, looking him up in down in his suit and styled hair. "i would kiss you right now, but i don't want to mess up my lipstick."
tom chuckled, both of their nerves slowly fading away. "you can kiss me at the afterparty. but for now, go get em, tiger."
smiling, she took in a deep breath and let it out, taking his hand in hers as she knocked on the window of the car, signaling to the chauffeur outside that she was ready. the man opened the door, and she kept her eyes on the ground as she stepped out, tom following her footsteps. after exhaling one last calming breath, she finally found the courage to look up.
immediately, she was met with the bright flashes of lenses, each camera in the complex turning at the sight of the two co-star-turned-lovers. tom comfortingly squeezed her hand. he was just as afraid, but he didn't show it. he wanted to seem cool and collected so that, hopefully, lilia would be able to see she had nothing to be scared of.
it was the first time the public had seen the couple since their relationship was confirmed, and the paparazzi was fawning over the way they held close together as they made their way to the step and repeat. their relations manager indicated to them it was time to separate so both could take individual pictures on the carpet, and so the two spread several meters apart.
lilia had learned to drown out the shouting of her name from every magazine and photographer. whether it was disney channel or abc red carpets, she had grown accustomed to the overwhelming noise. but this time, she let herself listen to it. she wanted to experience every moment of this night fully, for it was a once in a lifetime experience.
she flashed her best smile, quickly relaxing into her go-to red carpet poses she'd been doing for years. she was glowing; radiant skin shining under the lights, her long hair falling in loose waves across her face and down the exposed backside of her right, black dress. she looked like a million bucks.
and even with all eyes on her, she couldn't help but look over at tom, who was having his own photo taken. she snuck a few glances every few minutes, seeing him do his own thing, admiring him from afar. since the moment she got the call from her manager that she had booked the movie, she had pictured this moment. she never would've imagined the co-star she would be sharing the carpet with would also be the one she shared her heart with.
after she spent plenty of time getting her photo taken for dozens and dozens of cameras, she was escorted to the side while others walked the carpet. however, she knew that eyes were still constantly watching her, and so she was on her best behavior, holding herself up confidently and happily stopping to take selfies and sign the autographs of people behind the roped off section. however, none of it was fake. the sparkle in her eyes was completely authentic.
after chatting with a casting agent she had been introduced to, she felt a tap on her shoulder, and she turned around unsuspectingly. however, her eyes widened and the nerves flooded her system again when she came face to face with none other than robert downey jr.
"wow, you're a lot shorter in person." was the first thing he said.
once people saw that lilia and robert we're finally meeting in person for the first time, the crowd of cameras recommenced, flashes illuminating lilia's peripheral vision. she gasped, stepping closer to him and embracing him in a friendly hug. "oh my god, you came!"
"of course i did. didn't they tell you, they took out the scenes of you and tom and just added my cameos. the movie will be a lot better now." he chuckled, referencing the young actor that was making his way towards lilia and robert.
tom shrugged once he reached them. "honestly can't argue with that, mate."
"there's the boy! aw, both the love birds with weird accents, this is so endearing," tom and robert hugged as well, and it truly felt like a family reunion to the three of them. "it's so good to finally meet you both. figured it was about time to meet the newest additions to the family."
lilia smiled at his words, her heart overflowing with pure happiness. "i'm so glad you came! i figured that the first time i'd see you was in a few weeks on set." she whispered the last part to ensure that others didn't hear, not wanting to risk spoiling anything.
however, tom wasn't so discrete. "so, when are lilia and i getting the script for the next movie?"
lilia quickly threw her hand over his mouth while robert shushed him, and she laughed nervously, looking over her shoulder to see if anyone heard. luckily, everyone else was too focused on getting the perfect shot or shouting their names to get there attention, probably confused as to what was going on.
"one thing you gotta learn, kid, is that everything is confidential." robert said, trying to hide his amused expression.
tom mumbled through lilia's hand. "even—?"
"—everything." robert emphasized.
lilia nodded and let her hand drop to her side. "don't worry. he'll work on it."
"why am i suddenly the child in this situation?" tom spoke up.
the group laughed and continued to talk with each other. slowly, tom's hand crept closer to lilia's, and his fingers intertwined with hers, and she couldn't help but smile. just one touch made her feel safer than she did before, and she didn't care if the cameras saw. she was done hiding her feelings. she was ready for her love for him to be in the spotlight.
eventually, it was time for them to head into the theater that was already packed to the brim with people. lilia, tom, zendaya, katherine, nathalie, jacob, bailee, tony, and the russo brothers all were waiting to go in and introduce the film. lilia was beyond nervous, yet beyond ecstatic at the same time. this was the moment she'd been waiting for her entire life.
finally, the host called their names, and they walked into the large theater, standing at the front, each with a microphone in hand. cheers from all the attendees echoed through the room, and lilia gave a small wave to where gabi sat in the velvet chairs. once joe and anthony said their speeches, the host motioned to lilia that it was her turn to say a few words.
she tried to hide the shakiness in her voice as she held the microphone to her lips. "i just want to say that looking at all of the people in here tonight it so surreal. it didn't feel real until now, it honestly just felt like a fun, independent movie we were making for the hell of it. but now, i am so beyond excited to share the story of scout paxton with everyone. everyone standing up here and dozens more in the audience all worked so hard on this film, and so i hope you guys all love it as much as we do!"
everyone applauded, and they took their seats in the best seats reserved for them, tom and lilia seated next to each other. their hands found each other's again once the movie began to play, and lilia watched with awe-filled eyes as the first scene on the boat began to play.
it was more fulfilling than she ever could've imagined.
