"Do I want to testify? Of course I do!" I told mom after she asked me if I wanted to go to the trial to try to prove Mr Asano not guilty. "Alright... calm down... go to your fiancé's house and tell him what's going on tomorrow." I nodded and left the house.
I knocked on the door and Mrs Asano opened it. "Oh, (Y/n), hello." "Hello Diane, can I see Gakushuu?" "I'm right here. What do you want?" "Tomorrow, your father is going to court and I'm going to testify to try and prove him not guilty." "What? Dammit! I'm coming too." "Shuuie, please calm down. I know this is an upsetting matter but yelling and cursing about it isn't going to help." Diane said and I sighed. "I'll do everything I can to help him. He did just want the best for the world." I said and Gakushuu clenched his fists as Diane sighed. "I'll get your other friends over here. Relax and don't think about it too much. Maybe we should visit your father later." Gakushuu nodded and I hugged him. He seemed to freeze for a minute and I had just brought him up to his room.
"Alright, how much sleep have you gotten?" "That obvious?" I nodded and pointed to the bags under his eyes. "I know you're worried about him, but I'm sure your father will be fine." I said and he just nodded a bit. "I'll sleep tonight..." "You better." I said and sighed. "Gakushuu! Is your father going to trial tomorrow?" The door suddenly opened and we saw Ren, seemingly panicked. "He is... (Y/n) is going to testify to try to prove him not guilty." Gakushuu said and I nodded. "I think the entirety of E-class was invited to testify...." I muttered and they nodded, knowing why. "Unfortunately, even though school just started, I'm sure that five at the most will be able to come, two at the least." I said and sighed.
Next day
"Miss Selene Chinami?" The judge said and I was at the podium. The prosecutor spoke. "Well then, it's clear you think Mr Gakuho Asano should be out of jail now, why?" He asked and and I remained calm. "The world would be destroyed if it wasn't for him allowing the octopus to come and teach E-class while trying to assassinate him." I said calmly and kept a blank face. "And yet that still doesn't answer the question." I sighed and spoke, "Because Mr Prosecutor, when Mr Asano let him teach the class, he had confined him in a space. While the government can claim as much as they want that they've mainly help assassinate him, it was the students. The military had access to missiles and yet, what happened? They missed every shot, not even getting a tentacle off him but when he was in the classroom where he was trapped, that octopus has been nearly assassinated many more times than the adults could've done." I said and noticed the defense smile. Mr Asano had a genuine smile to me and I smiled back.
"Objection!" Someone yelled and everyone seemed surprised. "Order! Order!" The judge yelled after banging his gavel. "Well, Miss Chinami has given sufficient proof that it's alright, but I want whoever said objection to come speak." He said and let me leave to the lobby for now.
Mom's POV
An older man came to the stand and spoke. "Mr Asano has done nothing but made children bloodthirsty beasts! That isn't going to be better for the world, it'll just make there be more killers!" Oh bullshit. I thought and noticed Young Asano at the edge of his seat. "Calm down. I know your father quite well, he'll get out of this." I said to him and he just backed up a bit but his focus stayed on his father. So despite what he told me, they do care for each other, how sweet. I smiled to myself before noticing Gakuho look up. He saw his son and wife quickly, as they didn't want their daughter worried or scared, he smiled to them and then looked back down.
"Objection!" The defense said. "Why don't we bring in the whole class of kids?" "That's impossible Mr Wright." (Yes I'm bringing Phoenix Wright in the story). "Why Edgeworth?" "Because most of the class is overseas, we only have eight of the kids here." "Then let's bring them in to see what they say about Mr Asano!" Mr Wright said and the judge nodded. "After this testimony." "As I was saying, I'm sure those kids are experienced with knives and all because of this man!" He pointed to Mr Asano and the judge nodded. "Hm... what's your evidence they're still all bloodthirsty." "Mr Wright, you can't be that oblivious, could you?" "What?" "I mean that, when Miss Chinami was in here, she had some bloodlust seeping off her whenever mentioning the word, 'Octopus'. She clearly hated that creature, who knows what might happen to other people she hates." "Or maybe it's because p-" "Mr Wright, I think we should simply let her explain!" The judge said and he sighed.
The man left, clearly looking satisfied as the eight kids came in. Nagisa, (Y/n), Karma, Anaki, Kaede, Isogai, Itona and Okuda, I see. I smiled and saw them each go to the podium.
Reader POV
"Miss Chinami." "Yes?" 'We've noticed during your testimony that you had a little bit of bloodlust leak off of you whenever you mentioned, 'octopus', why's that?" "I did? My apologies. I simply hate that creature for threatening to kill the ones I care about, accident or not." "Accident?" "Yes, our moon is simply the way it is because he couldn't control his power and destroyed it." I said and they nodded. "Well then, that's the answer, but Miss Chinami, is there anyone you'd kill because you hate them?" "Murderers. Just no innocent people for sure." I said immediately and they nodded. "I see, Mr Wright, is there anything you'd like to add to that?" The defense shook his head. "Excuse me, but isn't this trial about me? Not a student?" Mr Asano asked and the judge nodded. "Yes, but getting outside information will help the decision." He nodded and shut up.
"How do you all feel about him? Besides Miss Chinami since we all know that." "He's a good man, he doesn't deserve to be in jail." Nagisa said and most people seemed surprised that he is a he, not a 'she'. "Yes this is a boy," Karma started and I held back my laughter from most people in the court. "Anyways, while he hasn't been the most supportive of E-class, the world would be gone without Mr Asano letting Koro-Sensei teach us." Karma said and we nodded. "Plus, despite his odd ways, he's still a good teacher who respects everyone." Kaede said as Anaki spoke now, "Exactly like Kaede said, he's a good teacher and should be taken out of jail immediately. We're all pretty sure the world would be destroyed right now if we let adults handle this." He said then leaned back. Isogai agreed. "While we've never been too fond of him because of his unknown hate for E-class, I don't think Mr Asano deserves this treatment because he let kids into murder plots, technically then, the Reaper should've been in jail long ago, as well as all assassins who tried to assassinate Koro-Sensei." Isogai said and I froze but calmed down with Karma's hand on my shoulder. Now, Okuda was the last to speak. "We've all never really been fond of him, Isogai is right. In fact, we've had our lives on the line multiple times and it's not even from Koro-Sensei most of the time!" She said and we all nodded, Itona spoke now. "He's a good man, unlike most people in this room. He wanted the best for the world and his decision is the best for the world, simple."
"Is that enough evidence Me Edgeworth?" I asked and he seemed a bit furious. "Edgeworth, calm down." Mr Wright said and the rest of us just stayed still. He took a deep breath. "Is that how all of the class feels?" "Yes, you can ask one of our two alive teachers and they'll tell you those are our exact feelings. While theirs may waver, that's our feelings about Mr Asano." I said and he nodded. "Well then, Isogai, correct?" He nodded and Edgeworth spoke again. "Why should the Reaper and other assassins be in jail?" "Oh, well, there was a time at a school vacation where an assassin gave us drinks that had some kind of food poisoning in it. He gave it to us all and most of our kids had gotten sick. Their contractor had actually wanted to kill us but if they hadn't decided to secretly rebel, we'd be dead.
"One of the other assassins had an iron strong grip and can kill a man in a second with it by crushing their head. He went against Karma but Karma only won because he had a can of gas that he sprayed in his face while he was monologuing. The final one... he's an interesting story. Our top two snipers, who currently aren't here, nearly got shot because of him. He used to serve in the war and knows any gun fired and can pinpoint the location of the shot within seconds." "And the Reaper?" "I... don't think we should talk about him..." "Why not?" "Because his student is right here and she doesn't like-"
"It's alright Isogai, I'll handle this one myself." I took a deep breath. "I'll give a quick explanation to what he just said. I am the third and last Reaper of the line. I haven't killed anyone-" "You killed the one claiming to be the Reaper." "Right, him. I've killed one person, and it was a murderer, as I claimed. The Reaper trained me to defend myself. Alright, now, the Reaper, he threatened to drown everyone in the class, including Koro-Sensei so that the entire shenanigan would be over. The reason the Reaper wanted him dead was because Koro-Sensei was the first Reaper. He didn't treat the second Reaper correctly as so, he was betrayed and became Koro-Sensei." I said, rather calmly but that was understandable." "What do you mean by the last Reaper?" "...The second Reaper had asked me not to follow in his footsteps and kill him had anything happen to him... I'll make sure there's no other Reaper while I'm alive. I had killed him and currently, have continued his wish." I said and they nodded. "So you never assisted him in killing?" "As I said, he simply trained me to defend myself, when he took me in, I was only seven so he didn't want to scar me, even at 11 years old, he made sure I wasn't scared of him. I think he enjoyed me seeing him as a father figure." I said the last part in a muttered and Karma placed a hand on my shoulder. "I'll be honest here, I'm actually really scared. The Reaper is the one who taught me most of the things I know. He's given me a good education, taught me how to act, how to speak better, how to walk better, and as I said, how to defend myself. He taught me to defend myself because of my abusive father. But he's dead now and surprisingly not from me." I said and Karma just sighed as the judge nodded.
"Let's get off the topic now please." "It is time for a lunch break... we'll continue this when we get back, thirty minute break.
At the Lobby Room
"Miss Chinami! Mr Kurosawa!" We turned around and saw the girl next to Mr Wright coming up to us. "Yes?" "I know this isn't a very good time, but-" "Maya, are you disturbing them?" "Sorry Phoenix! But I really want an autograph!" "First it was Steel Samurai and now it's Scythe?" She nodded and I was confused and noticed Anaki the same next to me. "Maybe after the trial?" I asked and she nodded. "We're sorry. We came in ask some questions, knowing Edgeworth, he's not going to show pity, even though it's clear that Mr Asano had wanted the best for the world." We nodded. "Sounds like a certain someone." Karma teased and I elbowed him.
Back at court
"Well then, Mr Asano doesn't seem to have a need to be in prison or executed..." The judge said and we nodded. "Objection!" We all turned to the prosecutor in surprise. "And what about what that man said? He made these children bloodthirsty! Why don't you demonstrate what you can do." "Nagisa, this is your time." Karma said and Nagisa seemed surprised. "B-But-" "The prosecution demands it, doesn't he? Here, use the anti-sensei knife and use it against him, you'll represent us all." I said and Karma tossed him the knife. "You really want us to demonstrate what Koro-Sensei taught us?" "Not the octopus, Mr Asano!" "Mr Edgeworth, this bloodlust wouldn't exist without Koro-Sensei. So it's more what he has taught us. Mr Asano taught us strategies to use against opponents and simply demonstrated some... disturbing things... whatever that mind control thing is..." I said and he just gave one of his smiles. "I don't know what you're talking about Ms Chinami." He said and I rolled my eyes but smirked.
"We don't know how he does whatever it is he does so what Nagisa is going to do is what the octopus has taught us." He sighed and nodded. "Fine then, use it on me." Nagisa nodded. "Sorry in advance." He said then, we all felt his 'snake' and then saw Nagisa holding the fake knife to his neck. "That's terrifying!" Someone exclaimed and Nagisa backed off him and returned. "Sorry Mr Edgeworth." Nagisa said and everyone needed to regain themselves except us.
After the trial
"I declare Mr Gakuho Asano, Not Guilty." The judge said and banged his gavel. We all left and sighed in relief and left.
"Okay, he's fucking terrifying." "Now you understand what I did in the library Seo?" I asked him and he nodded. "Gotta admit, Rio moved pretty quick when she was holding the pen to your throat Natsuhiko." Mr Asano walked out now and Gakushuu went up to him. "Why were you so calm?" "They wouldn't have killed me, just kept me in prison longer Gakushuu. It's not like I actually killed a person." "Oh haha Mr Asano." I said and he smiled. "Alright, let's go home Gakushuu?" He nodded and so did Diane but mom went up to him before they could leave. "Gakuho." "Hm? Oh, (Mom's name), how nice to see you again." "It's only been since the beginning of the school year. I'm sorry you had to go to jail." "No problem. We need to catch up sometime, are you free this weekend?" Mom thought for a minute until Kurasuma nodded. "I suppose I am." "We should catch up Saturday then. Now, I need to go with my family, goodbye. And thank you eight." We nodded to him as he left.
Weekend
"Alright, I'll most likely be out till dinner. They're also making graves for the Reapers' if you two want to go." We nodded to mom and she walked out in casual clothes.
