Humans bored Michael, there was simply no other way to put it. Everything was so simple now. He longed for the days when luring his prey was actually something he needed to put effort into. Now people were just so stupid, it took all the fun out of the hunt for him.
There used to be a certain elegance to stalking and killing, almost like he was courting them, but people just made it so easy for him now and the whole thing made him feel cheap. He couldn’t even remember the last time he’d had to run; he missed the feeling of adrenaline in his veins, he missed the anticipation.
The modern world was a paradox, as were the people in it. On the one hand, people had become so desensitised to violence that they didn’t fear for their lives. They were careless. But at the same time, once they realised that they were in danger, that their death was imminent, they completely gave up. People used to fight. Michael lived for that, he lived for the feeling of power that came with having someone quiver at the sight of him and begging him for their lives.
Now the humans bored him. They wandered around in cemeteries for god’s sake.
Sometimes they even spoke to him.
"Are you here to visit someone?" The girl asked, stopping directly behind him.
Michael could smell her, the innocence was rolling off her in waves. He smiled to himself, the innocent ones were always the most scared. He could probably get off on this, he could corrupt her with ease; he probably would have too, but he was hungry.
"Everyone here is dead." Michael said instead of answering, turning around to face her.
"We’re not." She pointed out, biting her lip to stop a smile.
"That’s where you’re wrong. I’m quite dead." She screamed as he allowed his true form to show and the sound sent a shiver of anticipation through his body. "And pretty soon you will be too."
