I'm at the loft with Stiles and Cora. We're disscussing the whole Derek thing and speaking of Derek he has decided he needs some space after the whole Boyd thing because he thought that it was all his fault. So he decided to just leave for awhile.
"They were there for two days. Waiting, hiding that's what we're told to do when the hunters find us" Cora says "hide and heal"
"Okay so is two days standard then or are we thinking of some extended getaway?" Stiles says
"Why do you care?" Cora asks Stiles
"Why do I care? Cause in the last few weeks my best friend has tried to kill himself, his boss nearly got ritually sacrificed, a girl that I knew since I was three was ritually sacrificed, Boyd was killed by alphas. You want me too keep going cause I can? Alright for like an hour"
"You think Derek can do anything about that?" Cora says and walks closer to us
"Since he's the one that everyone seems too be after maybe he should do something about" Stiles says
"I don't know?" Cora says "there's something different about him. He wasn't this way when I knew him"
"What was he like?"
we hear footsteps coming down from the staircase.
"A lot like Scott actually" Peter says "a lot like most teenagers. Barely romantic, profoundly narcissistic, tolerable really to only other teenagers"
"So what happened?" I ask "what changed him?"
"The same thing that changes a lot of young men... A girl" Peter says
"You're telling me some girl broke his little heart. That's why Derek is the way he is?" Stiles says
"Do you remember Derek before he was an alpha, had blue eyes?" Peter says "do you know why some wolfs have blue eyes?"
"I always thought it was like a genetic thing" Stiles says
"If you wanna know what changed Derek you need to know what changed the color of his eyes" Peter says
"Well what about me?" I say "I have blue eyes"
"Well you have blue eyes because you and Derek share a bond that not even you and him will understand" Peter says "But when a werewolf meets it's mate they become obsessed with each other. Always wanting to be near each other, even if you don't want to be, you'll always find yourself near them and eventually you start to share everything"
"Like what?" Stiles asks and I fold my arms
"Eye colour, when one gets hurt the other one can feel their pain and sometimes if the pain or bond is strong enough you'll get the wound aswell" Peter says
"So what happens is one of them dies?" I ask
"We'll have to wait to see if one of you dies to find out!" Peter says and I step forward wanting to attack him but Stiles pulls me back
"So if Derek was a sophomore back them how old was he? How old were you? How old are you now?" Stiles says
"Not as old as we could've been but not as old as you think"
"That was frustratingly vague" Stiles says "how old are you?"
"I'm 17" Cora says
"See that's an answer that how we answer people" Stiles says
"Well 17 how you measure in years" Cora adds
"Alright I'm just going to drop it. What happened to Derek and the chello girl?" Stiles says
"What do you think happened they were teenagers. One minute it was I hate you, don't talk too me and the next it's frantic grouping in any dark corner they can find them selfs alone in for five minutes" Peter says
"Never say grouping again" I state
"Their favourite dark corner was an abandoned distillery outside of Beacon Hills"
"Alright hold up" Stiles says "how do you know all this? You just said they were alone"
"Back then I wasn't just Derek's uncle. I was his best friend, his closest confidant. That's how I know" Peter says

Peter begins drawing a swirl on the misted window
"Our mark for vendetta" Peter says
"Man you guys really just take that revenge thing to a whole new level don't yah?" Stiles says
"It's not just revenge" Cora says "loosing a member of your pack isn't like loosing your family. It's like you loose a limb"
"They wouldn't even let him see the body" Peter says
And he starts telling us about Ennius and one of his pack members
"I don't get it, what does this have to do with Derek?" I ask
Peter turns to me
"Everything" he says "it's never just a single moment to confluence an event. Personally I looked at Ennius' circumstances, I saw profound loss. Derek saw something different. He saw opportunity"
"Opportunity to do what?"
"Too always be with her"
"The thing was he had this constant fear" Peter says "he was obsessing over it. Thinking about, all night, all day, always on his mind"

"I kept telling him not to do it. Everyday the more I thought about it, the more convinced he became" Peter says "you know teenagers. I bet he even blames me? He's probably convinced himself that the thing was all my idea"
"Was it your idea?" I ask Peter but he says nothing
"They keep us connected to humanity but there's secret even in the pack. Sometimes only the alpha knows who the emissary is. Derek and I had no idea about Deaton" Cora says
"Or his sister, Morell" Peter says
"She's an emissary too?" Stiles asks
"For the alpha pack"
"Our guidance counsellor?" Stiles says almost yelling and Peter and Cora give each other a look "why don't you people tell me any of this stuff? I shared some really intimate details with her"
"And did she give good advice?" Cora asks
"Actually yeah"
"That's what they do. That's what Deaton used too do for Talia" Peter says and he starts telling us the rest of the story

"Ennius, why would you choose him?" Cora asks
"Why not? Ennius needed a new member for his pack" Peter says "Paige was young and strong. Doing a favour for Derek meant Ennius would be in good terms with Talia. Back then, everyone wanted to be good with her"
"He doesn't remember it was Ennius, does he?" I say
"If he does he keeps it too himself"
"So then what happened? Did her turn her?" Stiles asks
"Almost" Peter says "he came at Ennius. Fifteen year old boy against a giant but it was too late... She had already been bitten"
"So did she turn?"
"She should have" Peter says "most of the time the bite takes, most of the time"
"When you offered it too me. You said if it doesn't kill you" Stiles says
"If..." Peter says and continues the story "he knew the answer though. It didn't matter that she was young and strong. Some people just aren't made for this. She fought, she struggled desperately, trying to survive."
I feel tears start to form in my eyes as Peter is telling us about Paige.
"I remember taking her body from his arms. Too the woods in a place where I knew it would be found. Another in a long line of Beacon Hills animal attacks" Peter says
"What about Derek?" I ask voice almost cracking
"Taking an innocent life takes something from you as well" Peter says "a bit of your soul, darkening it, dimming in the once brilliant, cold and yellow. To cold, steel blue. Like mine"

"What?" Cora asks Stiles "what's this look on your face?"
"What look?"
"The kind of look that makes me want too punch you" Cora says
"My god you are so Derek's sister. Forgot" Stiles says
"What is with the look?"
"I just don't believe him" Stiles says "Miss Blake's class we're reading heart of darkness and it's ok first person, narrated by Monroe. The thing is he's an unreliable narrator. You know the details have changed you know just because of his perspective"
"Than we've heard the story from Peters perspective"
"Right and I don't think we got the whole story" Stiles says
"So what are you just going to ask Derek about the girl he fell In love with and then killed?" I ask Stiles
"If I have too, yeah"
