Chapter 35

Monday morning, I did not have practice because we had our first game tonight. I put my uniform into my bag and walked to school. Elliot was waiting by my locker.

“Hey, how was your date.” He said with a disgusted look.

“You were right; he was a pig, but I don’t care.” I shrugged.

“What did he do?” Elliot asked. I could tell he was getting mad.

“Nothing, calm down. I’m fine.” I put my arm on his shoulder reassuringly.

“Ok.” He said as we walked to Math.

The rest of the day went by in a blur, and all that mattered was the game. I told Elliot I would talk to him later as I ran towards the gym.

“Good luck.” He called after me.

“Thanks.” I yelled over my shoulder.

I went in the locker room and got into my uniform. We were the Waterlake Warriors. Our colors were blue and black. I threw my hair in a ponytail, and walked onto the court.

I looked in the already filled stands to see Elliot and Alex. I waved to them, and then I warmed up. It was simple drills. My heart started racing as the game grew closer and closer. The game started at three o’clock sharp.

I lined up on the circle as my teammate tipped the ball towards me. I grabbed it and set up the first play. I was one of the two sophomores on the team, so I barely hung out with anyone on the team besides practices. They all seemed like cool people though. My teammate Ashley set a pick, and I went up for a layup. I made it.

The game ended with Warriors 50 and Cobras 20. Coach May congratulated us, and I ran to the locker room to retrieve my things.

I walked out and saw the boys waiting for me. I started to make my way over to them, when Tony stepped in front of me.

“Great game.” He said as he slung his arm over my shoulder. I shrugged it off.

“Thanks.” I said as I walked away, but he grabbed my hand.

“Come on, let’s get outta here.” He said with a smirk. Was this kid serious?

“Um, I’m not sure if you remember last night, but I told you to get lost.” I said as I pulled my hand back. By now, Elliot and Alex saw what was happening, and they made their way over.

“I think you should leave.” Elliot said.

“Fine, you can have her. She wouldn’t put out anyways.” Tony said with a smirk. Elliot was about to take a swing at Tony, when I stopped him. I wanted to hit this kid myself.

“The reason I didn’t ‘put out,’” I said while putting air quotes around put out. “Was because you are a scumbag, and you are nothing.” I copied his smirk. I felt the back of his hand hit my face. “Oh hell no.” I screamed, but before I could do anything, Elliot already punched Tony.

Tony fell to the ground in one punch.

“Don’t touch her or talk to her again. Got it?” Elliot spat. Tony nodded, and I hugged Elliot as we walked away.

“Thanks, I should’ve listened to you.” I said. He grabbed the side of my face. I could feel a slight sting where Tony’s hand had struck me.

“It’s gonna bruise.” Elliot told me as he studied his face.

“I know, but I don’t care. Thanks again.” I said as I kissed him on the cheek.

“No problem. He’s a dick.” Elliot shrugged. I laughed. “Great game by the way.”

“Thanks.” I smiled.

“Yeah you kicked ass.” Alex cheered. Wait, Alex? I guess I forgot about him.

“Thanks.” I said again. “I’ll see ya guys tomorrow.” I said as I walked through my door. They nodded and walked away.

I walked into my house and looked in the mirror. There was a slight bruise forming, but I really didn’t care. I would just cover it up.

I strolled over to my fridge and looked at my basketball schedule. I had two games during the week, and one on Saturday every week. My next game was on Wednesday. I hopped into the shower to clean all the sweat off me, and I eventually drifted off to sleep.
