I was on my way home when it happened. All in a matter of minutes, but it felt like forever. All I could hear was the pounding of my heart in my ears. All I could see was the navy blue Camaro speeding down the road, and the tall, brown haired boy crossing its path. I didn't think, just ran. I didn't know if I would get to him on time. I didn't have a chance to hope I was fast enough. And maybe I was, or maybe it was just the adrenaline rushing through me, but I somehow managed to reach the unknown boy. I quickly grabbed the back of his shirt and pulled him back, just before we got hit. We both fell backwards on the road, me having pulled him too hard. I push the initial pain and shock aside and quickly sat up to see if the boy was okay. My eyes widened as I realized to it was. He sat up, shock and fear clear in his eyes. He looked over at me, unsure of what just happened. staring at me with deep brown eyes, was none other then Dan Howell, a.k.a Danisnotonfire. Dan was one of my favourite YouTubers. I've watched all of his videos as well as Phil's. When I moved to England from my home country Canada, I always imagined how incredible it would be to meet him. I knew it wouldn't just happen out of the blue, but I still hoped. And now here I am, sitting on the road with the boy who always made me smile and laugh. The same boy who would've gotten hit by a car if I was just one second too late. I couldn't believe it.
"Are you okay?" I asked. He looked at me in shock and tried to speak.
"I-I-I-" he stuttered. Then we heard shouting.
"DAN?! OH MY GOD, DAN ARE YOU OKAY?!" someone shouted. We both turned our heads to see Phil Lester, a.k.a AmazingPhil, running towards us from the coffee shop, drinks forgotten. I looked back over to Dan, only to see a red liquid starting to run down the side of his face.
"Oh my god, you're bleeding!" I said, taking off my sky blue cardigan. I leaned toward him and carefully pressed it against his temple where the cut was. It was hard not to notice him flinch. By this point, Phil was kneeling next to Dan, frantically checking him for any more injuries.
"I'm sorry, I'm so, so sorry. I didn't mean to pull you back so hard that you would hit your head. Oh my god, I'm so sorry." I said, on the verge of tears for hurting my favourite youtuber. I looked down, still pressing the cardigan to Dan's head, hopefully stopping the bleeding. Phil was looking at Dan, asking him what happened and if he was okay. Dan ignored him and cleared his throughout. I felt him put his hand over mine, pressing on the cardigan. I tried to pull my hand away but he wouldn't let me. Dan cleared his throughout again and I looked up, our eyes locking.
"Are you okay?" he asked, looking worried and concerned. I gave a humorless laugh.
"Am I okay? You nearly got hit by a car. If I had been a second too late, you could possibly be dead right now." they both flinched. "You're bleeding right now, and you want to know if I'm okay?" I finished with another laugh. Phil was sat there, looking back and forth between Dan and myself, not sure on what to do or say. I smiled at Dan.
"I'm fine," I said. "Are you okay? Are you going to pass out or something?" I asked, concern replacing the smile on my face. I tried pulling my hand away and this time he let me.
"No, I think I'll be fine," he said. "I'm just a little...shaken up." he started to get up off the ground. I quickly stood up and Phil and I helped Dan up an over to a nearby bench. Dan and Phil sat down as I pulled the cardigan away and threw it in the trash.
"Well, you're not bleeding anymore, and the cut isn't deep so you don't need stitches." I told Dan.
"Dan, are you okay?" Phil asked, deep concern for his best friend shadowing his face. Dan looked up at me after nodding at him.
"Thank-you. For pulling me out of the way. You saved my life. Is there anything I can do to properly thank-you?" Dan asked.
"That's okay, you don't have to do anything. I'm just glad you're not dead." I said, wrapping my arms around me to protect me from the chilly wind.
"At least come back to our flat to warm up. You look freezing." Phil said, noticing me slightly trembling.
"That's a good idea. Come with us, warm up, drink some hot chocolate, we can all watch a movie and just relax. I mean, if you want to. We promise we're not serial killers or anything." Dan said, rambling. I snapped my fingers in his face to get him to stop talking. He looked up at me as Phil snickered.
"Sorry, you were rambling. I'd love to come with you, thanks." I replied, smiling.
"Great! Oh, I'm Phil by the way, and this is Dan. It's nice to meet you." Phil said, a big smile on his face.
"It's nice to meet you too. I'm (y/n). I, uh, know who you guys are actually. I watch your videos." I said, looking away as a blush heated my face.
"That's great! We always love meeting fans." Dan said, smiling. Dan and Phil stood up, and the three of us started walking.
"Did you know it was me when you pulled me out of the way?" Dan asked.
"Wait," Phil said. We stopped walking. "You're not going to tell everyone our address are you? you seem like a nice girl and I hope you wouldn't do something like that."
"Oh god no. I would never do that. I can't even imagine how horrible it would be if thousands of girls were knocking at the door all the time." I responded reassuringly. Phil smiled at me.
"Okay," he said. "We are trusting you not to tell anyone." We continued walking. I felt so short next to them. They were so tall.
"And no, I didn't know it was you when I pulled you out of the way. I didn't know until I turned to see if you were okay." I explained. Dan smile down at me and I smiled back up at him. As we continued to walk, they asked me some questions to get to know me better.
"So, (y/n), what part of America are you from?" Phil asked. I looked over at him and started laughing a little. Him and Dan had confusion written on their faces.
"Sorry for laughing, but I'm not from America actually. I'm from Canada." I said, smiling. Phil looked slightly embarrassed.
"Oh I'm so sorry! I just assumed because of-" I cut him off.
"-because of my accent. It's okay Phil. it happens a lot here so I'm used to it." I said.
"Canada? Wow, you're a long way from home. What are you doing all the way here in England?" Dan asked. I gave a small laugh.
"Ever since I was little I've wanted to live in England, and now I'm finally here." I told them.
"How old are you?" Phil asked.
"I'm 18. I'm in my senior year of high school."
"Oh god. Good luck. School sucks. Hope you're prepared for the existential crisis." Dan said, laughing. I laughed with him as we kept walking.
We had been walking for about 20 minutes when the wind picked up. I wrapped my arms tighter around myself to keep warm. Dan looked over at me and frowned.
"We're almost there. About another 20 minutes, but you're freezing. Here," he said. He started to take off his black leather jacket, but I grabbed his arm to stop him.
"No, I'm fine. You have an injury and should keep your jacket on." I said, letting go of his arm. Dan took off his jacket anyway and placed it over my shoulders. I looked at him and it was clear I wasn't going to win this battle. I sighed and slipped my arms through the sleeves. They were a bit long on my arms (cause he's like, 6'3" and I'm 5'3") but it didn't matter.
"Thank-you." I said, giving Dan a shy smile. He smiled back at me and I noticed a look in his eyes that I've never seen from anyone before. I couldn't quite figure out what it was. Our eyes locked and neither of us wanted to be the first to look away. We wouldn't have at all but Dan walked into a trash bin. I started giggling. Dan blushed in embarrassment while Phil shook his head (also giggling) and we kept walking.
Finally, we made it to their flat. I was shocked beyond belief. I stopped outside the building, just staring, wide eyed. Dan and Phil noticed I had stopped.
"What's wrong?" Dan asked, confused. I looked back and forth between him and Phil.
"You guys live in this building?" I asked, stepping inside with them. (I don't know what their flat looks like obviously, so I'm making this up.)
"Yes, why?" Phil answered. I looked at them as we got in the lift.
"I just moved into this building 3 days ago. 3rd floor." I explained. I can't believe I was living in the same building as Dan Howell and Phil Lester. This is actually happening!
"Wait, are you the girl who moved into flat 306? We heard about a young woman that was suppose to be moving in." Dan wondered.
"Yup, that's me," I said, "How did you hear that?" I asked as we got off on the 3rd floor. Oh god, if Dan and Phil live on the same floor as me...I might die.
"Welcome neighbor! We live across the hall in 305. That's a crazy coincidence huh?" Phil said, laughing. We stopped outside our doors. Oh my god, I actually live across the hall from my 2 favourite YouTubers!
"Well you should still come inside for some hot chocolate," Dan suggested as I handed him his jacket. "We are neighbors after all." Just then Dan winked at me and gave me the cutest smile. I couldn't help but smile back.
"Yeah, sure. I'd love to." I responded. Phil unlocked the door and walked in. Dan grabbed my hand and pulled me inside, shutting the door behind us. His had was so warm and fit so perfectly with mine. I never wanted to let go. As if reading my mind, Dan intertwined his finger with mine and squeezed my hand. I looked at our joined hands, then back up at Dan. He smiled at me and pulled me to the couch. I couldn't help but smile like an idiot as he pulled me down right next to him and wrapped is arms around me.
"Let's get you warmed up." He said, sending me another dazzling smile. I leaned back into his arms, letting him warm me. We just sat like that for a few minutes while Phil was in the kitchen, making hot chocolate.
"Better?" Dan asked, looking down at me, still smiling. I looked back at him, and in that moment, I was certain of one thing. I was starting to fall for him. I was hoping beyond everything that he would catch me.
"Much better."
