For the last 3 days of summer break all I did was sleep & spend time with Chase. Oh & avoid Allison...I still haven't been home or talked to my mother even once yet.
I woke up at 6:30 to start getting ready for my first day of my senior year. I curled my hair really nicely & put on some natural makeup. I wanted to make a good first impression. I put on alot of cover up though, trying to hide the scars & bruises that still lingered.
I wore khaki pants & a hot pink polo with a grey cardigan covering it & I slipped into grey matching flats. I wanted to be covered up. I figured I'd just tell everyone I was cold.
"You're coming today?" Austin asked with a shocked look on his face.
"Absolutely. I want this year to be normal." We both went on getting ready. I didn't understand why he questioned me, if he was going why wouldn't I be? I left early cause my guidance counselor called me to come in to talk before classes start.
I talked with her for awhile, she didn't let me leave til almost the end of first period. It was pretty annoying. I'm sick of everyone asking if I'm okay. I'm fine.
I walked into my class, everyone just stared. I talked to my teacher & sat down quickly. I started pretending to read my book. "That's the girl..." I heard someone whisper. "She was in the accident with that Emma chick & Austin!" I was started to get fed up, but the bell rang.
I walked into the hallway after everyone & stuck right to my schedule, I didn't want distractions. I had an okay day, I guess. Everyone was pretty quiet around me. I ran over to my locker before lunch to grab some books.
"Hey beautiful." Chase said to me smiling.
"Hi." I replied quietly.
"You have lunch now?"
"Yeah, you too?"
"Yup, sit with me!" I could tell he held back a minor laugh.
We walked down to the cafeteria, he kept messing around. He grabbed my books from me. "I got them." He smiled. I smirked at him trying not to blush. My heart raced Every time I was around him. I just wasn't in the mood to eat, I still didn't feel to great. I walked up with him & bought a cold water hoping it might help my headache. We sat down with a bunch of his friends & of course Austin. Thank god he was in our lunch.
"Bab- ahh... Shae, where's your next class?" Chase tried playing off the name.
"Babe!? Hey now kiddos." Austin winked, teased Chase. Both of our faces got all red, we looked up & smiled at each other.
"It's ah, down stairs. I have study."
"Me too," he grinned. I couldn't of been happier. We got up about to start walking but Mrs. Jones, my guidance counselor, called me to her office.
"I'll meet you." I tried smiling, but I failed.
She just handed me a ton of papers & brochures to try & help me "grieve" I don't need this. I said "thanks" smarty & walked out. I walked down to my study & I couldn't even believe it, was my head screwing with me?
Allison. That skank! She was all over Chase, he was laughing too...no. This can't be happening. I walked in & sat next to them.
"Finally! Keeping me waiting, geez!" He joked.
"Sorry babe." I winked at him, trying to make a point to her. She just rolled her eyes & turned around. Chase smirked at me.
"Jealous?" He whispered.
"No! I just...I can't stand her." I said glaring at her.
"How come? She seems pretty chill."
"Long story..I'm sure Austin'll fill you in." I laughed.
"Hey chase-" she interrupted me. "Can you help me with this?" She smiled.
Here we go...I wanna slap her. She makes me so damn mad. She was all googley eyed & smiles.
"I'll text you later." he said as we left class.
The day went by so slow, it seemed like it'd never end. 10th period I went the the bathroom to get out of class for at least a few minutes. "Of course." I rolled my eyes.
"Ugh. I was thinking the same thing." Allison said smartly.
"Do me a favor & stay the hell away from Chase."
"Uh, last time I checked...you two weren't going out. He's single." She smirked.
"Screw you." I snapped.
"Sorry, Chase probably likes...how can I word this nicely, pretty or...normal girls."
"Excuse me? You think he likes you!? Hahahaha, you are funny. He'd never like a bitch like you."
"You're sure as hell a big talker for someone who has brain damage." She clicked her tongue.
"Get the hell out of my way." I pushed through her. She grabbed my arm & pulled me back.
"Get your hands off me!" I screamed hitting her arm, it was an instant reaction from the pain she sent through me. She slapped me roughly across my face. I pushed her to the ground. I went to leave, she stood up without me realizing. She pushed me by my face to the wall. I never felt such horrible pain in my life...I fell to the ground holding my head. My vision started blurring. I felt myself starting the fade out...it was like déjà vú from the night of the accident.
--
I woke up laying in the hospital bed. Here we go again. I looked around, nobody was here. Was I alone? I rang for my nurse.
"Yeah hun?" She said so nicely, she was a nurse I had last time.
"Um, can you tell me what's going on?" I spoke quietly.
"You were in a fight, you hit your head pretty hard."
"Is my mom here? Or Austin? Chase?"
"There's a woman downstairs, she said she'd be right back."
It was probably my mom, sadly. At least this time I was only out for a few hours, not days. I was in so much pain still. I couldn't wait to go back to school, Allison's screwed.
--
I fell asleep for awhile, because my IV medicines were so strong. I woke up seeing the worst image possible...Allison's face.
"What the hell are you doing here?" I rolled my eyes. "Haven't you done enough?"
"Listen Shaelynn...I-"
"No, you listen Allison. I'm not gonna listen to your bullshit. I'm dealing with enough right now. Just leave. I'll call someone to get me." I cut her off.
"But..." She looked nervous.
"I'm not a snitch, don't worry." I looked away. She walked out slowly, looking back at me. She actually looked sorry, but I just didn't care at this point. She has me right back in the damn hospital. That fight didn't have to go that far. I wasn't planning on calling anyone, I didn't want them to worry. I discharged myself & told the doctor I had a ride outside. He warned me about some side effects from the trauma. Nausea, vomiting, dizziness, etcetera. I kind of ignored it, they have to tell everyone this stuff. I started walking down to Austin's, it was already 4 o'clock. I hope Austin's working today, I don't want the third degree about not being in school or letting him know.
"Oh great..." I murmured to myself walking in. Austin & Chase were at the house. I ripped of my hospital bracelet & threw my medicines in my bag.
"Hey chase, did you ever know cell phones call or even text people!?" Austin said sarcastically.
Chase just laughed & smiled at me. He didn't want to make a smart remark, I could tell.
"Okay smartass, it was dead." I lied.
"Well you could of--"
"Are you alright?" Chase butted in.
I felt kind of dizzy...
"Yeah! I just wanna lay down. I'm tired." I walked into my room, I made the guest room mine. But Chase followed me.
"What's really going on?" He had a stern face on as he crossed his arms.
"N-nothing. I'm just having a rough day."
He reached in my pocket & pulled out my hospital band. "Just a rough day?"
"I slipped & fell in school, I just went to make sure I didn't screw anything up. Really, I'm alright Chase."
"Shae, I care about you way to much to let you lie to me. What the hell happened!"
"Promise me it stays between us! especially don't let it get to Austin..." I caved in & told him about what happened. I lacked a few details though, i didn't want it to get out of hand.
"What the hell is wrong with her! She had no reason to put he hands on you--"
"But it was my fault too!" I butted in.
"It doesn't matter Shae..."
"Chase!" I interrupted
"Let's just drop it...I'm just glad you're okay." He smirked. "So you got jealous?" He smiled at me.
"I don't know what your talking about...never!"
"Come here." He whispered. He pulled me in & wrapped his hands around my waist. "I'm really think I'm falling for you Shaelynn. It's really weird..."
"Oh, it's weird?" I smirked.
"Aha, Shae...I'm tryna be serious!" He laughed.
"I know...I'm falling for you hard, Chase." He held my face & kissed me sweetly. He grabbed my hand in his & we walked back out into the living room.
"Look at you love birds!" Austin screamed. It's impossible to ever have a friendship like Emma & I had, but Austin's the closest thing possible. I'd do anything for him, he's the best.
"Where's Allison?" I hesitated.
"Uhh, I'm not sure." Austin looked around. We all sat down, it was so quiet.
"You guys wanna do something tonight?"
"Like?" They smiled.
"I think it's party time!" I winked at them. I don't know what came over me, but I wanted to have fun. I was already regreting it, before it even happened. Nothing good ever comes of a party. Austin's parents were never really home, plus they don't care as long as it doesn't get way to out of hand. Speaking of parents...my mom still hadn't even called me, mother of the year I have! I'm glad she hasn't.
"Get those statuses & texts out!" Austin yelled. It was only six o'clock, we had plenty of time to set up & get everything. It probably wouldn't start until about nine anyways.
