You think, staying defensive while you wait for the attacker to make a move. When he finally swiped, the crowd screamed, which took you out of focus while he only just cuts into the side of your blazer. Hopefully he didn't make it to your skin.
"(Y/N)!"
L begins, but you cut him off as you keep him behind you.
"Get him to safety, NOW!"
You bark at one of the stage managers, and they quickly come over and lead L away despite him protesting. Once he was gone, you keep your stance while you keep your eye on the knife.
"Just you and me."
You say, and the he tries to move past you toward where L went, and you swiftly deliver a kick to the stomach, keeling him over before you quickly elbow down on his shoulder, forcing him to drop the knife. The crowd was still reacting quite heavily while the stage managers ushered them out, and you already knew this would be on the news later, or within the next hour...You could almost feel the public's smart phone cameras on you.
Thinking you had him, you let your guard down only a slight amount before he suddenly regains composure, quickly getting up and throwing you to the ground as you harshly hit the wall too. Trying to recover as your body ached, you finally hear the door burst open, seeing other security guards run in.
Using the last of your strength, you maneuver behind him as he was turned for a moment, quickly twisting his arm around and forcing him into a nearby concrete wall, holding him there as you breathe heavily.
"Take him from here."
You say sternly to one of the guards, and they do so while you quickly show them your badge that was just under your blazer.
"I'm going to escort L out of here. Make sure nobody goes through that door."
You continue, and run through as you try and ignore the pain of getting thrown down. Finally getting to one of the exits, you barrel through and slam the door behind you, seeing L not far away.
"We have to get to the car. Now."
You say, losing energy as you take over, leading him out before quickly making the call for Watari to come around. Opening the exit to the building, you were blinded by camera flashes of the reporters eagerly waiting outside, and soon after bombarded with questions about what just transpired in the building, as well as if he thinks the assailant had anything to do with Kira.
"L! Do you have anything to say to any Kira worshippers out there?"
"Do you think this gives information on his motives?"
They ask one after another, and you pull the hoodie over his head for him while you swiftly walk to the car.
"No questions."
You say sternly, placing a hand on his back as you keep your quick pace. Finally after getting to the car, you open the door and lead him in, sighing a breath of relief before locking the doors as camera flashes continued.
"Are you alright?"
You ask as the car pulls away, and he nods as you get more situated in the car.
"G-good...I'm glad you're okay..I had to take him on back there.."
You stammer, and he looks over while he takes his mask off.
"Yes...I'm fine. Thank you."
He says, and you don't answer as you exhale deeply, closing your eyes while you feel a pain in your side quickly growing.
"(y/n)?"
He asks, his eyes tracing to you not a moment later before he gasps. You were holding your side tightly as a red stain began to appear under your blazer on your white shirt. Apparently your clothes weren't the only thing cut.
"Sometimes it doesn't go exactly like training, unfortunately. Don't worry, It's...It's nothing, I'll just patch up later.....I'll.."
You attempt, getting a little lightheaded.
"Watari, the hospital, now!"
He barks, and you slowly feel yourself fall into darkness. The last thing you heard was L calling your name out.
Then, beeping. The first thing you heard when you came to was beeping. Turning your head a little while you struggle to regain your bearings, you open your eyes slightly to see that you were in a hospital bed, with your hand in someone else's.
"Mnh....W-Where am I? R-ryuzaki...Where's Ryuzaki?!"
You suddenly say, wide awake as you attempt to sit up, hearing the heart monitor increace while a stunning pain shot through your side.
"Ah!"
You yelp, laying back again before regaining the little composure you had.
"Whoa whoa, (y/n), I'm fine. I'm right here okay?"
You hear, and look over to see him sitting next to you, your hand in his.
"Thank God. You arent hurt are you?"
"No, thanks to you."
He smiles, squeezing your hand.
"W-what happened while I was out..?"
You ask, and he shifts.
"It's only been about an hour and a half since you fainted. The attacker was arrested and is in police custody now...But you had a pretty bad gash on your side you didnt even notice while you were defending me. Almost eight stitches..Are...Are you doing okay?"
He answers, and you nod slowly. Just then, a nurse enters the room, and he perks up slightly to see you were awake when he looks up from a clipboard.
"Ah, shes up. When did that happen?"
He asks, and L answers for you.
"Not even two minuets ago."
"I see. Well I'm glad to see you're alright. If you're up to it, you should be okay enough to stand, given you have a crutch. It was quite the nasty cut you got but it could have been deeper and a lot worse, which you should be thankful for."
He says, putting down his clipboard before walking over.
"Mind if I have a quick look?"
He asks with a smile as he rolls over a stool, and you nod.
"Go ahead."
You manage, and he pulls the hospital blanket aside before shifting your shirt up, looking at the big bandage on your side.
"Good. It's stopped bleeding at the very least. I'll re dress it and you should be well enough to go home...But you have to have someone with you for at least twenty four hours. You don't want to damage those stitches at all."
He says, and you look down. He notices this, and as hes putting new bandages on, he speaks.
"If you dont have anyone available to stay with you you'll have to be here at the hospital for that time I'm afraid."
He continues, and you sigh.
"Well, I guess that means I'll have to-"
"I can stay with her."
L suddenly speaks up, taking you by surprise.
"Great. Well you should be able to check out whenever you want then. I'll go get a few extra bandages for you, okay? I'm sure your boyfriend here will be able to take care of you just fine other than that."
He says cheerily, and leaves the room before you could say otherwise as you feel your face start to burn. Looking away, a tense silence hung in the air before you speak.
"U-um....You dont have to do that Ryuzaki, I'm fine...Really."
You attempt, deciding to not mention the nurses comment, and he shakes his head.
"Its no trouble. In part I'm responsible for that happening, so at the very least I should help you get better."
"Who cares about how I feel? The important thing is that you got out unhurt."
You smile, flinching at a pang of pain in your body.
"(y/n)...You made sure I was okay. I should do the same for you."
He says, stepping closer before gently touching a small stick on bandage on your cheek, and you flinch once more.
"Ow."
You cringe, and he twitches his hand away before coming in a bit more gently, his cool fingers softly brushing your hair away from the mark.
"Is it really hurting that bad..?"
He asks, and you look down.
"Theres no shame in being honest (y/n). You had to take on quite a bit back there."
He says, and you slowly nod.
"Yea. It hurts a lot to be honest..."
You finally sigh, slowly sitting up.
"But that's what I signed up for. It's just another part of the job."
You answer, and he sighs before
"Really, thank you (y/n)...If I had known it was going to be like that...I would never have considered even putting you in that kind of situation."
He says, softly drawing closer before he kisses the bandage on your cheek softly and extremely gently.
"Now, are you ready to try and get home?"
He asks, and you nod before shifting upward, getting your legs over the side of the hospital bed while you try and hide the pain. Slowly getting up to your feet, you faulter only a little, but L quickly catches you and holds you to his chest for a second.
"I-I'm sorry Ryuzaki- I..."
You begin, but he shakes his head while he continues to support you slightly.
"I feel so useless right now."
You laugh, and he gently helps you stand up straight as he looks at you with his grey eyes.
"Well...That just means I'm going to have to protect you for a little bit. Only fair, right?"
He says with a small smile, leaning in before your lips meet incredibly gently. This took you completely by surprise, and you pause for a second before speaking.
"Wh-..."
You begin to stammer, and he looks down before you see a small smile on his lips.
"I...Just wanted to show you how grateful I am."
He says, and you smile before attempting to walk forward, clutching your side.
"(y/n)...You need to go easy."
He almost whispers while he softly touches your shoulder, and you feel your cheeks warming at his deep and soft voice.
"Is that all?"
You playfully ask as you turn toward him, and you see his eyes trace away while his cheeks become warm.
"W-well, to admit...Ever since we trained together I've..."
He begins, but falls silent. Seeing this as a little bit of an opportunity, you gently cup his cheek.
"Just come here."
You say, and pull him into a soft kiss. Surprised, he takes a moment before he accepts the gesture, melting into it while he takes your hand.
"Maybe someone was wishing what the nurse said was true?"
You tease when you pull off, and he looks at you with a playfully unamused glance.
"Shut up."
He says, bringing you in again.
"Well...Maybe a little."
He says, while your lips meet again.
Who knew that training together would lead to this?
And especially, who knew that's what got L going a little bit~?
