Daniel pov

flashback

"What happened back there T?" I yelled as I followed him through the woods, away from the police sirens and ambulance lights.

"That was a rush!" He yelled with a laugh. I ran after him and pulled him back by his arm. Shocked to see the blood that covered his mouth and chin. His eyes were yellow but dilated. Which meant he was high. A high werewolf was not a friendly werewolf. "Have you ever killed while being hopped up on drugs?" I pushed him away by the shoulders.

"No, I haven't." I said blankly. "What did you take? And what the fuck happened back there?" I asked again.

He just shook his head, running hands through his hair. "You should try it! It's like the blood moulds with your hands. And you absorb the power after every kill." He laughed, walking towards the garden of our house again.

"How many T? How many of your messes do I have to clean up this time?" I said getting fed up of the disrespect.

He spun around and grabbed my shoulders. "You don't need to clean it up for me big brother." His eyes were wide and he had shifted showing his fangs and hair around his face. "Let's go back, we'll kill the police and paramedics." He said holding onto my head. "Together, we'll create a blood bath." I pushed him away from me. He just laughed.

"If mum and dad find out about this..." I started but he just laughed louder.

"The alpha is afraid of his parents!" He laughed so loudly I thought it might wake up the house as we were stood only a metre from the garden. "You're the worst alpha you know Dano." He said his laugh fading. "You don't deserve the gene. I deserved it."

I shrugged. "I didn't choose this." I said not really caring he was mad about it. My emotions were off, I couldn't care. "It's a curse for a reason T, and I suggest you get over it." I said putting my hands in my pockets.

"You're a big bad alpha and you don't take advantage. Your little brother kills more than you!" He yelled.

"You shouldn't be killing anyone!" I yelled back. "We're predators. Not killers."

"That's where your wrong Dano." He chuckled again and took a step closer. "We are killers. We are monsters!" He yelled pushing my shoulders.

I moved back a little, but I beat his strength by thousands. "I will cover up this mess but that is it. Then you can tell our family what a monster you are." I said moving around him.

"I'm not the real monster here though." He said pulling me back. "Shift." He said making me chuckle.

"You're crazy." I said and went to leave but he grabbed my wrist again. Slapping me on the side of the head in the process. I gave him a warning look.

"Come on, you really want to teach me a lesson? Teach me a lesson." He said with a smirk as he slapped my head again.

"I'm warning you T." I said with clenched teeth.

He just smirked. "Let the beast go. Loose control!"

"No!" I yelled pushing him back. I tried to breathe and control myself.

"You know you want to." He said laughing and coming closer again. "You're dying to rip my annoying little head off." He said which I admit was true. I kept trying to calm my breathing but was cut off by a fist to the face. "What about now? Huh? You still calm?" He asked punching my face again.

"One more T. I dare you." I said through clenched teeth. He just smirked before punching me one more time. My eyes instantly shifted to black and my fangs grew. I tackled him to the floor. He laughed until I landed a fist to his face. He didn't expect the hard impact. "You think you are so brave little brother." I spat against his face. "Challenging me!" I yelled letting out a roar in his face. One that shook the ground beneath us. "That's okay, I'll grant your death wish." I smirked before punching him again.

"Daniel!" I ignored the yell from my father as I lifted my claws ready to slice his face off.

My father grabbed me just before I hit his forehead, so I caught just below his eye. He screamed out in pain and my mum instantly ran to his side. I tried to fight my father off, but he was a stronger alpha than I. "Breathe son." He whispered into my ear as I kept struggling against him, ready to lunge at my brother. "Let go of the anger." My father always knew how to calm me. The only person who could. I suppose he had practise.

"Kevin call an ambulance!" My mother yelled as T continued to scream in pain.

He was trying to stop the bleeding from his face himself. My father left me on the floor as he ran into the house. "Travis I didn't..." I trailed off because he couldn't hear me over his own screaming.

Seeing him like this triggered my emotions again. They had flipped themselves on like a switch. My mum was trying to calm him, but she was also crying.

"Mummy?" I turned and saw Emma and Amy standing on the porch, both with tears in their eyes.

I scrambled to my feet and ran up the porch quickly picking up a crying Emma. I took her inside so she didn't see it and held her head to my chest as she sobbed. She didn't understand what happened. She just saw her brother screaming and her mother crying. I could hear the sirens approaching and I held Emma tighter. Because I was an alpha the wounds, I gave T wouldn't heal normally. They would heal like a human would. Which meant he would scar as a human would. And he did.

Obviously, I left out the werewolf details, and instead of saying he killed people I said he just got into some fights over drugs.

Haylie was silent throughout the story, I finally turned to look at her and saw her eyebrows furrowed together in concentration.

"You asked for the truth..." She nodded quickly.

"I know I just... I can't believe Travis would provoke you like that. Especially if he knew about your anger problem." I sighed.

I obviously couldn't tell her that I was going to kill him either, I said it was an accident in my own fit of rage. "He was high, he probably had so much adrenaline running through his body and he wanted another fight."

She played with the glass of champagne in her hands. "Did you have to cover for him often?" She asked.

I shrugged. "I had too, you don't know what my parents would have done if they found out."

"What did they say to you after?"

"My mum took it the hardest. She didn't understand how her sons had gotten to that point. I think she kind of blames herself for not realising something was going on between us." I admitted. "But my dad, he understood." Haylie looked confused by that. I knew she would be. "He knew what it was like to let your anger get the best of you."

She shook her head, her brows still furrowed enough that I reached out with a finger to trace the spot between her eyebrows, instantly erasing them. "You aren't an angry person though."

I smiled. "Not around you maybe. I don't have a reason to be angry when I'm with you." I admitted thankful it forced a smile onto her own mouth. "I'm terrified to lose you Haylie because you have made me so much better. I'm a better man. I'm calm." She sighed but smiled again.

"You haven't lost me." She said holding my hand. "I love you, that's not going to change anytime soon." I felt my stomach flip. Hearings those words were the best feeling. "Do you think that maybe you could tell me about the room?" She asked the question I was dreading.

I decided this was the last lie, I would tell her the truth soon and then I would be able to be honest about everything. "Remember I've only lived there for a few months. I haven't had time to renovate it properly. But the person who lived there before me kept animals there."

She looked sceptical. "Why couldn't you just tell me that?" She asked. "You said you could lose me if you told me? That's not something you could lose me over." I shook my head.

"I was involved in it for a bit. I didn't know how badly the guy was treating the animals, it was for illegal dog fights. But I swear I'm done with it now." I inwardly groaned, this lie was getting too deep. "I'm sorry I didn't tell you I just knew you would be upset about the animal cruelty side of it."

She sighed, seeming to really think about it for a minute. "If you say you aren't involved in it anymore, I believe you." She smiled. "But you should have just told me." I nodded and held her hand tighter.

"I know, I was an idiot. The biggest idiot in the world." She smiled slightly again. "It's been two days since I last kissed you can I please have my daily dose of Haylie now?" I asked jokingly but deadly serious.

She laughed and I took it as my opportunity to lean forward and capture her mouth with mine. "how do you do that?" she breathed as I pulled away, resting my forehead against hers. "You always make me forget when I'm mad. Even when it's for valid reasons."

I pulled away with a smile. "It's called being in love baby."

Even though I felt complete bliss from that kiss, like I hadn't kissed her for years I could tell she was holding back. "Daniel I forgive you for not telling me truth about that guy at your race. It was family business I get that now. I'm also thankful you've told me about Travis and that room in your place. But it doesn't erase the fact that you lied to begin with. And I still don't know if we're going to end up in this same place in a few weeks."

I didn't want to lie to her again. More than anything I never wanted to see the look on her face that I saw when she saw that room. She thought I was a monster when she saw those chains on the floor. How could I promise that it wouldn't happen again when I knew it was inevitable.

"Come away with me." I settled on. She opened her mouth to object. "Please. Come to the festival with me and the guys. It'll be a whole weekend of you, me and our friends." She still said nothing, disappointment flooding her features. "Haylie, I love you." I wanted that to fix everything, but I knew it didn't.

She nodded. "You aren't going to promise not to lie me again, are you?" I winced as looked back up searching my eyes. After a few seconds of me debating it and her realising I wouldn't she slowly nodded. "You shouldn't have let me fall in love with you."

My lips parted at the pain in her eyes. The realisation of why she had said that. She loved me enough that despite the fact I wouldn't promise no more lies, she wasn't leaving me. I nodded. "Please. Please just come away with me."

Against her better judgement I'm sure, she nodded. "I'll come away with you."

I kissed her again. I kissed her countless times before we had to leave. I needed to savour the taste of her. I needed to show her that I loved her. That I was sorry. That the secrets didn't matter because it was going to be us forever.

By the time came where I parked the car down the road from her house, I had even gotten a few laughs out of her. She leaned over to kiss me goodbye, but I surprised her by jumping out of the car. "What are you doing?" She asked as I opened her door with a grin.

"Well, this is a date right? Since I can't actually walk you to your door, I can at least get out the car to say goodbye." She laughed, jumping out, taking the hand I offered but still looked around nervously. "Hey." I shut the door pulling her close. "Nobody's around okay." I reassured her.

"Thank you for tonight." She finally said, leaning her back against the car. "I forgot what a romantic you could be when you wanted."

I laughed. "That's one of the reasons I love you. Instead of a fancy dinner you just want pizza and champagne."

Her eyes lit up. "Champagnes fancy."

"Oh, I almost forgot." I opened the back door and pulled out the simple red rose.

Her mouth turned into a full on grin that I had been missing as she took it from my fingers. "See, romantic."

I took a deep breath, running my hands up her arms realising the temperature had dropped. "You should get inside."

She nodded. "Yeah. Goodnight Daniel." She reached up, pressing her lips to my cheek and turned away.

I laughed at the fact she thought she was getting away with that. My hand caught her wrist as I pulled her back to me in a swift movement. My lips colliding with hers for the last time tonight. "I love you." I breathed when I let go.

"I love you." She breathed back as she let her forehead rest against my lips for a second longer.

I didn't get back into my car until I saw she was safely back inside the house. Then I climbed back in, a stupid smile on my face before I left.

Haylie pov

"You're home early?" Mum yelled from the living room. I walked in and saw her and my dad watching telly. I sat on the couch next to her.

"It's half nine? I hardly call that early." I chuckled.

"It's early for you." My dad interrupted but kept his eyes on the tv. "You're barely around these days."

I sighed and lent my head against the back of the sofa, remembering the conversation I had overheard. "I'm free this weekend. Why don't we go out for lunch on Saturday?" My dad turned to me with eyebrows raised.

"You're going to be home? On a Saturday?"

I laughed, throwing the pillow at him before nodding. "Lunch yes, or no?!" He chuckled but nodded.

"Sure," we both looked to my mum.

"I'm sure I can find time in my busy schedule." She sighed, I just laughed because my mum never goes out if she doesn't have to. She wasn't the sociable creatures like we were.

I jumped back up from the sofa. "Well I am going to a party Friday night, so I will either be sleeping at Megan's or Scarlett's. Do you want to pick me up from there?"

My dad scoffed. "Oh so you're NOT home on Saturday." I groaned.

"I am! If you pick me up on the way to lunch it will be easier for you." I argued but we both still had smiles on our faces.

"Where did the flower come from?" My mum asked looking at the red rose Daniel gave me, I quickly came up with an excuse as I saw my dads eyes narrow on it.

"Um I had a pretty hard day at school so Scarlett bought me it to make me feel better."

My mum laughed. "Scarlett is the sweetest girl."

"Sweeter than Megan." My dad laughed and I fake glared at him. "Why was school hard?" He asked with genuine concern.

I just shrugged. "Work is just piling up on me. A levels are so much work." I said ending the conversation as I turned to head back upstairs.

As I walked past Alex's bedroom, I heard her whispering. My curiosity got the best of me.

"It's not about what everyone else thinks though. That's what you always tell me." Luke, she had to be talking to him. "My sister was right. I'm just a game to you aren't I?" She sobbed quietly.

I shook my head and walked to my room; I couldn't hear her argue with him. Hopefully this time he will stay away from her. Although if he's playing the same game Adam did, then it's far from over.
