Chapter 43: Good Egg
“These are great” I told Seth as I swallowed another bite of the burgers he made. He flipped another patty then looked over at the lake, “Hey, where’d Zak go?” I asked and Seth shrugged his shoulders, “I saw him go into the house. Not sure if he came back out”. I scrunched up my eyebrows in confusion, “What’s he doing in there?” I asked and he shrugged again. I tiled my head at him and he turned away. I pushed my plate away and stood up, “Be right back” I mumbled, opening the glass door and stepping inside, “What are you doing?” I asked glaring at Zak with my hand on my hip. Zak didn’t bother to look at me while he chugged my Massandra’s wine straight from the bottle, “Is that my Massandra’s?!” I gasped grabbing it from him, causing it to drip on his shirt, “Damn it” He muttered wiping at it, “That’s my $43,000 wine you ruined, you putz!” I yelled and his mouth dropped open. I put the cork back in and placed it in the mini wine cellar off the right of the kitchen. I felt his eyes on the back of my head as I shut the little door. I turned around and he was watching me, his mouth still gaping open, “43,000 dollars…”He exasperated quietly and I nodded, “I know. It’s extremely expensive, and rare. It’s been in my family line forever. That’s from 1775. My great great great grandfather, one of the family founders, stole it from the winery in Russia when it was first made! It’s been passed down for generations, never been opened!” I yelled and he still stared at me in shock, “I’m sorry, that explains why it was so dirty-$43,000?” He said again and I rolled my eyes, walking past him. He grabbed my arm and pulled me closer to him aggressively, “Hey hey hey, is there a problem here? I heard yelling” Seth shouted carrying a plate of garbage as the others followed behind him.
Zak glared at him and let go of me, “Of course not” He growled then walked into the living room. I looked back at Zak then at Seth, “You okay?” He whispered and I shrugged looking down. I turned and walked into the living room, “Zak…” I started before noticing he wasn’t there, “Zak?” I whispered for him. I looked at the rug by the front door and his shoes were gone. I opened the front door and Zak was sitting on the front step. I shut the door and sat next to him, “Hey!” I yelled when I saw he was smoking a cigarette. I slapped it from him and it hit the pavement. He glared at me and I pursed my lips, “Sorry, smoking’s bad” I said and he looked forward with a sigh, “I know that” He said and I watched his expression carefully. His eyes looked tired, like he hadn’t slept in days. He looked down at the cement, “Will you, Nick and Aaron be okay here by yourselves? I’m leaving for a bit” I said and he looked up at me. Every time he looked me in the eyes I got chills, “Where are you going?” “Seth wanted me to go with him somewhere. I’m not sure where, it’s a surprise I guess” I giggled. His eyes were wide, then he looked back at the ground with the same sad eyes he had before. He groaned and pinched his eyes shut. He looked at me, a smile curving up at the edge of his lips, “Have fun” He whispered, patting on my leg then standing up. He opened the door and walked inside. A strand of hair fell loose in front of my face and I blew it away, unsuccessfully. I brushed it behind my ear and stared up at the light blue sky, “I miss you, Kyle” I whispered. The door opened and I turned around, “what are you staring at?” Seth laughed holding his hand out to me, “Oh, nothing” I smiled as he helped me up. We stared at each other for a second and he smiled at me. I loved his smile, he had such white teeth. Whenever he smiled he did so big that his eyes squinted and he had dimples, “You’re a good egg” He said tapping my nose once with his finger. I laughed and shook my head at him, “What do you say we get out of this joint”

“ What the hell is this place?” I said looking over at Seth who was bobbing his head in my face to Gangnam Style by Psy, “They have the best drinks in town! It’s a club, but who gives a frog’s fat ass?” He laughed taking both my arms and spinning with me into the crowd of people that smelled like alcohol and drugs. The whole room was black, flickering with bright lights and black lights. The music suddenly stopped and everyone froze, “Is it over?” I whispered to Seth who was also just standing there. He snorted and shook his head, “Just wait” He said, “Oppa gangnam style!” The person singing the song said before the song started again and everyone bounced around like animals, “What does that even mean?” I yelled to Seth over the music, who was jumping, “Who cares?!” He laughed picking me up and putting me on his shoulders. I screamed and a bunch of men near us cheered and danced around us. Everything was happening so fast, I couldn’t keep track of everything that was happening around me. This wasn’t something I normally did, so I was a little rusty. He ran over to the bar and placed me on top of it, “What am I supposed to do??” I whispered, “Dance!” He yelled I stood up. A bunch of people ran over and I just let loose. I threw my hands up and they all cheered, “WOOO!” Seth screamed jumping and thrusting his fist in the air. He climbed up and started dancing with me, making me die laughing. We both sang along the best we could and he spun me in circles. The song ended and went to some other. Everyone clapped and went back to the center dance floor. Seth helped me down and we both sat on the barstools, “Drinks are on the house” The attractive bartender with short brown hair said with a wink. Seth looked at me with raised eyebrows and a large smile, “That’s my girl!” He laughed hugging onto me, “Is this your wife?” The bartender asked looking over at Seth. Seth held up his left hand in the man’s face, “See a ring, pal? No. Now make yourself useful and get me a dry martini. What would you like doll face?” Seth said looking at me and speaking with a bad god-father like accent. I tilted my head at him, “Got a problem, stupid bitch? I’m from the sopranos, stupid bitch” He said, “Actually get me a tequila kind sir” He said still talking in an accent. The bartender nodded and walked away, “You like tequila, stupid bitch?” Seth asked looking at me, “No. And stop calling me stupid bitch” I laughed punching his shoulder, “What? Oh god you got to try it. That’s sad. Tequila’s the shit. You’re trying it” He said and I shook my head, “Uh, no…” I said and the man handed him the drink, “Come on, this is happening” “Uh no” “I HAVE SPOKEN” Seth yelled and I laughed, “Fine, fine!” I said taking it, “Ho ho ho ho, you stupid bitch…You stupid stupid bitch… Your about to have the best drink of your stupid bitch life” He said and I took a swig. I coughed and he let out a laugh, “Shut up” I muttered playfully, “So how is your stupid-AGHHM” Seth stopped mid-sentence for a drink them began coughing hysterically, “Hm. I have yet to see the episode of the Sopranos where he drinks liquor like a little bitch” I said and he glared at me with water eyes, “Went down the wrong pipe” He mumbled taking another sip and I nodded, “Oh I’m sure”
“So, how are you doing? And I say that in all seriousness” Seth said turning to me, “It’s okay I guess…I’ve missed you Seth!” I said and his lips curved into a big smile, “I’ve missed you too, Lani! I’ve missed your family too!”
“Where’ve you been hiding?”
“Ah, I’ve just been busy as hell. Work, you know. I have to work on the show practically every day…I barely get a day to myself. I took two weeks off so I could catch up with you and to have some time with myself. I haven’t had that much time off in a long ass time” Seth said taking one last drink of his martini.
“Two weeks? Damn, bitch!” I laughed and he nodded.
“I know, I know…”
“Doesn’t that hurt your throat? Doing all those voice-overs?”
“Eh, sometimes I guess. You get used to it though. You know, I’ve been doing this for 10 years” He said and I opened my mouth in shock.
“No kidding? Holy shit” I laughed and a woman tapped on his shoulder, “Hi, I’m sorry, are you Seth MacFarlane?” She asked and he laughed and nodded, “I’m a huge fan!” She shrieked handing him a sharpie, “Would you draw quagmire for me?!” She asked handing him her white purse, “Of course” He laughed, “He’s your favorite?” He asked as he signed the side of her purse then began drawing the cartoon character, “Definitely, he’s hilarious” She giggled. Once he finished, he handed her it and she shrieked again, “Thank you so much! I’m a HUGE fan of Family Guy!” She said and Seth smiled, “Giggidy giggidy goo!” He croaked in Quagmire’s voice, making her cry out in laughter, “You’re hilarious! Thank you so much!” She laughed giving him a hug, “Anytime!”
“You’re so nice to people” I said when the lady walked away.
“What can I say” He laughed shrugging his shoulders, turning back to the bar.
“You’re just a loveable guy, Teddy” I said and he glared at me.
“Oh god, I forgot about you calling me that” He laughed.
“Oh bullshit, you would never forget that”
“God, I know…” We both laughed and he stood up, “Well, it’s pretty loud in here. What do you say we get out of here and go somewhere more quiet” He said and I got up, “Sure, sounds good” I said and we walked around the side of the building to the exit. We got in the car and drove off, “That was fun! I’ll have to go back there again sometime” I said and he rolled his window down. He took out a cigarette and lit it, “God, I hate that about you” I said and he looked over at me, “What’s that?” He asked puffing on it, “How you smoke…it drives me crazy” I said rolling my window down, “I drive you crazy and you love it” He snickered. I laughed and stared at him. After a while he noticed I was watching him and he stared back, “What?” He laughed, “I’m going to stare at you until you throw that out”
“Seriously?”
“Do I look like I’m kidding?” I said frowning at him and pointing at my face. He rolled his eyes and flicked the cigarette out the window.
“Thank you. Those will be the death of you” I lectured looking forward and he smiled lightly at me. I looked over at him and threw my hands up, “What?!” I yelled jokingly and he shrugged and looked forward, “I just missed you”
“Oh my god, Seth, this is so beautiful” I said stepping out of the car. We were at a garden with beautiful landscaping. There was a small fountain in the center with a sidewalk wrapping around the flowers and willow trees. The fountain was dimly lit up and there were two benches in the small park. There was a wooden roof that was boxed so you could see the stars through the top. Lacing around the roof were small white lights, “Oh my god” I said again and Seth stepped next to me with his hands behind his back, “Isn’t it perfect?” He whispered and I looked at him in shock, “I can’t believe it, it’s SO beautiful” I whispered and he took my hand, “Want to take a closer look?” I nodded and we walked forward. He placed his other hand behind my back and we walked around the fountain, “How do you know about this place?” I ask looking up at him.
“Well, its a few miles from the hospital where you were in a coma actually. After I visited you while you were in there I would come here and think about you. Okay that sounded creepy…” He chuckled and we both sat at the wooden bench.
“I just hadn’t seen you in months then suddenly you’re in a coma” He said and I pouted my lip, “I’m sorry, Teddy…” I said still holding his hand.
“Speaking of coma’s…It’s only like 9:00PM I should call my parents and ask about that guy” I said grabbing my phone, “Well, Lani…you sure you want to do that? I mean, you don’t know the guy, what are you going to do when you find out who he is? Won’t that be kind of awkward? I think that since he hasn’t come back for you that’s a sign you’re supposed to be with someone else…” He whispered looking down then back up at me. I smiled at him and put my hand on his cheek, “Okay, Teddy” I whispered and he smiled, “If he finds his way back to you and you love him it was meant to be”
“You always know what to say” I said and we looked at each other for a second. I stood up and held my hand out, “We should probably get going home”

“You’re back!” Zack said shooting up from the couch excitingly. Once he was next to me he cleared his throat and shook my hand, “Okay” I laughed walking into the kitchen, “I’m going to hit the sack. Is it okay if I sleep downstairs?” Seth asked me walking into the kitchen, “Go ahead” I said slicing a piece of homemade banana bread. He stood next to me and held out his hands. My cheeks turned red and I smiled and hugged him. We looked at each other for a second before he kissed my cheek, “Goodnight….Oh, and I got you a present” He whispered into my ear, “And what’s that?” I whispered and he smiled, “The satisfaction of watching me walk away, CHABANG” He yelled, turning around with one quick leap when he said “chabang”. As he walked away he purposely thrusted his butt to the left and right. I laughed and shook my head. I looked over and Zak was in the corner looking down, “Hi” I said and he looked up, “Hi” He said tilting his head with a sad smile. He walked over to me and I shook my head, “There’s nothing going on between us, I-“
“Lani, I get it, I get it” He said walking over to my fridge and grabbing a bottle of beer, “You’re too beautiful to resist” He laughed looking down at the bottle, “I….I, uh…I don’t know what to say…thank you” I whispered and he smiled, still staring at the drink.
“Where’d you guys go?” he asked turning around and leaning against the counter, “Some bar, it was crazy. But then later we went to some beautiful park to talk. It was fun” I said and he nodded. He took a drink then sat it behind him. He put both of his hands on the counter to support him and relaxed. He smiled at me, “Sounds like you had a good time”
“I did, it was a nice night…What’d you guys do?” He looked forward in thought then back at me, “Just chilled, and looked up some stuff for the lockdown”
“Fun” I said and he shrugged one shoulder like it was no big deal, “Eh, not as much fun as you had apparently” I looked down at the bread and broke it in half. I held the other piece out to him, “Try it”
“Thanks, Lei” He chuckled taking it. He took a bite and moaned, “Oh my god..Oh my god, that’s the bee’s freaking knees” He said and I laughed and took a bite of mine.
“Hey, Lani, have a good time tonight?” I turned around and Nick was leaning against the open entrance to the kitchen with his arms crossed, “Yeah, yeah it was great”
“Good…Well, I’m going to go crash. Where am I sleeping?” He asked picking up his suitcase and showing it to me. I looked over and Aaron was standing behind him, looking like he was in his own little world at the moment, “Sure, I’ll show you guys to your rooms. I’ll be right back, Zak” I said looking back at him and he nodded once then took another drink off his beer. I walked in front of Nick and Aaron and up the stairs, “Would guys like to sleep in the guest rooms or downstairs? I’m sure you’d feel more comfortable in-“ “I CALL THIS ONE!” Nick yelled running into one of the rooms. I laughed and looked at Aaron, “You want the other?” I laughed and he shrugged, “I’ll take it. Night, Lani!” He said hugging me then walking into the room. I took my phone out of my pocket and looked at it to see if I had gotten any texts, but there were none. I sighed and put it away, “Hey-I, uh, was just coming up to get some toilet paper. I noticed you ran out downstairs” Seth said making my heart stop, “Jesus, you scared me” I said putting my hand on my chest. He snickered and walked into the hallway bathroom, “Sorry” He yelled from inside. I rolled my eyes and walked down the stairs, “Hello again” Zak said when I walked in. He was sitting on top of the counter drinking a new bottle of beer. I snorted and jumped up on the counter with him, “May I?” I said taking the bottle from him and taking a long drink as he stared at me, “Um, go right ahead” He laughed when I handed him it back. He looked down at the bottle and flexed his jaw. He took a drink then looked at me, “So…”
“So…” We both said staring at each other. He cleared his throat and looked away.
“I’m tired, Zak, I’ll see you tomorrow morning?” I asked jumping down, “Most definitely” He whispered. I smiled and began walking away. He took another drink and watched me until I turned the corner to go up the stairs. I walked into my room and left the door ajar. I pulled open my drawer and grabbed my big old high school sweatshirt. I took off my pants and shirt and threw on the long shirt. It was big enough that I didn’t really need pants with it. I put the dirty clothes into my hamper and jumped in bed. I stared up at the ceiling for a second, letting my heart settle before moving again to cover myself up with the blanket. I snuggled into the warm blanket and stared into the darkness that was slightly lit by the crack of hallway light. I shut my eyes and relaxed.

I slowly opened my eyes, my bright red alarm clock letters read 3:15AM. I was still laying on my side facing the door, my arm I was on was aching. I flipped over and gasped, “What, what, what?” Zak grumbled sitting up quickly and looking around the room for danger, “What the hell are you doing?” I whispered and he laid back down, shutting his eyes, “The couch and floor is uncomfortable. It was either I slept with you or Aaron, and Aaron’s a sweaty bastard.”
“What about Nick?!”
“He sleeps with a bag of jelly beans”
“Seriously?”
“No, not seriously, I’m fucking with you. He just kicks like a kangaroo in his sleep. Talks like a bitch too, ‘Mommy why don’t you love me?’”
“Zak!”
“What?” He asked opening his eyes and grinning at me.
“Go sleep with Seth”
“Lani, I’m sorry, but sleeping with men isn’t my thing” He snickered turning on his side towards me.
“Alright, whatever. I’m too tired to yell at you right now” I said laying on my back and shutting my eyes.
“That’s right, just rest your little head. You have not a worry in the world, love” He chuckled patting my forehead. I glared at him and he snorted, “You’re so cute when you’re pissed”
