Hello

(Y/n)'s POV
"Hey!" I glanced around the darkness where the sound had come from. I heard the strike of a match and a small flicker of fire illuminated Lance's face in the dark. He was smiling at me. "You coming or what?"
"Where?"
"There of course."
"What?"
"Who? When? Why? How?" He grinned, finishing the list and the light flickered out.
"Lance?" Another match was struck, this time behind me, causing me to turn to him quickly.
"That's me. You knew that."
"Seriously what's going on?"
"Whatever do you mean?"
"Why are we in the dark?" I asked, the match burning out on cue. I heard shifting.
"Why not? How come that's your first question? Why not your leg for example? I thought you were in bed at home?" He whispered, his voice shifting around in the pitch black.
"Am I dreaming?"
"Sure."
"Then where am I dreaming of."
"Well nowhere really. Why do you think it's so dark?"
"How do we get out?"
"Out of nowhere? Why didn't you just ask that in the first place." I heard a snap and I winced away from the bright light. "Well you did just ask for this, maybe you should've been prepared."
"I can't help being blinded," I hissed and blinked a few times.
"Actually you can. You chose this place, not me. I'm just here," he replied, strolling away. I glanced around, seeing that we were in the arena from the third trial. I didn't want to be here. "Then why are we? I didn't pick this place."
"You can read my mind?" I asked and Lance nodded, rocking back and forth from his heels to his toes. He wore a sly smirk. "So if I can control this dream, like lucid dreaming, then..."
"Go ahead and try it out."
I paused and glanced at my hand, figuring that snapping was the best thing to do in the moment. It worked for Lance. I snapped my right hand and glanced up. We hadn't left this location, only the large fwooper peering at me, confused and getting angry. I felt my body begin to shake with fear and I stumbled backwards.
"You're not very good at this are you," Lance said, frowning at the creature. I quickly snapped to make it go away and it only got angry, swooping at me. I screamed and shut my eyes, falling backwards. My eyes were shut tightly and I expected searing pain, but I neither felt a scratch nor hit the ground. I opened one eye, hearing my heart beat rapidly in my chest. "Maybe I should."
Lance had caught me, holding me in a dipped position. I scrambled away, breathing heavily. We had switched locations, in an open area of school.
"I seem to have more luck with your brain," he observed. "Plus, these are the things bouncing around in your brain. I'm just picking the better ones huh?" I stared at him incredulously, still shaking violently. "Well look at you, you're all dirty."
His fingers snapped and winced, shutting my eyes again.
"No need to fear. We've visited that memory already," he said. I glanced up, seeing that only I had changed clothes. Into the beautiful red gown I wore to the Yule Ball.
"What th—"
"You do remember this don't you?" He asked. "What a beautiful night it was, but you ran away."
Ran away? Did he mean...
"That was just so silly wasn't it, I didn't think you liked me," he said and I stared at him with wide eyes. "That was a nice moment at the fountain though." He started to wander off and I trailed after him, not wanting to get lost. If I knew I was dreaming then why couldn't I just wake up?
Lance snapped his fingers again and Lotor's looming figure appeared in the side hall where he had smashed my necklace.
"Ugh, he's in your memories?" Lance asked, snapping his fingers again. Lotor disappeared before he could do anything to me. I heard a second snap and we were outside again, this time in an empty Quidditch field.
"Wait, please stop." Lance looked at me, tilting his head. "I can't wrap my head around any of this right now, can we please slow down?"
"Wrap your head around this? We're in your head silly," Lance scoffed, crossing his arms. He dug the tip of his shoe into the ground after crossing it over his other leg. "If you want to wake up, just do it."
"I don't know how."
"You do it every morning don't you?"
"Well yeah that's not really something I can control?"
"Alarms. Duh."
"I—please, I can't."
"You really need to relax sometimes," Lance said, snapping. Instead of the scene or anything changing, Lance was now behind me. I jumped. "See? You're on edge even in your dreams."
"I don't know what you want me to do."
"I know you like me," he said, changing the subject as he stared at his fingers which were placed together and ready to snap again. I felt my stomach drop and he strolled towards me. "If you like me so much, why don't you just ask me out?"
"I can't—but—you're dream Lance!" I said. "Of course you know I like you. I made you up!"
"Mm fair point, but why not practice asking me out? Or at least enjoy my presence? Clearly I'm just everywhere in your mind, hence why I'm here now," he said, smirking at me.
"I—"
"Go ahead. Ask me."
"No!" He let out a huff and pouted. Even dream Lance was like this?
"Then I guess I'll just do it then," he commented, snatching my chin in his hands. "How about dinner at 8?"
"I'm dreaming! There's no times or dinner!"
"Again a fair point, then how about right now?"
"Would you stop?!"
"I can't. Don't you get it? This is you talking," he said, inching our faces together. "Clearly you want me to continue." I quickly shoved him away. "Hmpf, like always. Even in your dreams you're in denial."
"I'm not!"
"Then ask me."
"No! I'm not in denial. I know I like you, but I'm not asking you out."
"And why is that?"
I was suddenly stumped for an answer.
"Oh whatever, you can't run forever. Not in your dreams or real life. Might as well take the leap. Couldn't hurt," he said. He snapped his fingers and I jolted awake, sweat pouring down my temples. I swiped the blanket aside, seeing my leg wrapped up. I pulled the switch on my lamp on, grabbing my phone.
Are you awake?
Yeah? Why?
I...can't sleep.
Aren't Pidge and Keith staying with you right now?
I can't exactly get up.
Right. Almost forgot. Why can't you sleep?
Weird dream.
What about?
Nothing really. I just needed someone to talk to for a minute.
Awe, and you chose me?
Shut up
No wait don't actually
Lance, come on
;)
Look, sorry to bother you so late, I just needed a little reassurance.
I wasn't asleep anyways, it's alright. You've been assured.
Thanks.
Hey can I ask you something?
You just did
>:(
Yes you can
I bit my lip, typing it out.
(Y/n)?
'Want to go out with me?' I erased the message. This was so dumb. It was just my crazy dream talking. Besides, a simple ask wasn't how I wanted it to go at all. Nor over text. I wanted him to know that I liked him and then ask him, but I couldn't bring myself to do it over text let alone in person like I really wanted.
You know what never mind, I forgot
Oh, well if it comes to you, ask away
Got it. Good night.
Night
I set my phone aside and set my face in my hands. I slumped back into my bed, shutting my eyes. I let out a breath and snapped to break the silence. My eyes peered out into the darkness still and I knew now I still wasn't dreaming. I curled up on my side, shutting my eyes again so that I could fall asleep again.
