It was a glorious and sunny morning, the Starlings and Pidgeys cheeping along while the Rattatta and Pachirisu skittered around. It was peaceful, perfect for a lazy ten-year-old to be sleeping in. That is... until...

"Espy! Espeon!"

"Gahck!"

The lazy one that was just mentioned glared sleepily at the purple Sun Pokémon with hazel eyes that were met with amused amethyst ones. The girl yawned, brushing some brown hair out of her face a moment later.

"Really Espy? I was having a good dream," The girl complained, sitting up despite the noise of complaint from the moved Pokémon. She sighed in annoyance before grabbing her brush from her nightstand, "Guess I have to get ready huh? We might as well train today," She smiled at Espeon who still sat on her lap.

"Esp," Espeon narrowed her eyes at the girl before they started to glow blue, using Psychic to bring the calendar from the wall to the girl. She raised an eyebrow but looked at the calendar with squinted eyes. It took a whole five seconds of processing and the Jeopardy song before she suddenly jumped up, disregarding the Pokémon on her lap. Espeon quickly used Psychic on herself, landing on the human's bed while glaring at the panicking girl.

"Crap crap crap! I completely forgot that we were flying to Kalos today!" She threw on her clothes quickly, nearly burying her Pokémon in her pajamas while the other yelped. After shoving her arms through a leather jacket and her backpack straps she clipped on a belt and shoved on some fingerless gloves. "Come on Espeon! We need to go!" The Pokémon rolled her eyes before jumping onto her trainer's shoulder, sitting regally while the other ran out of the Pokémon Center. The human grabbed the skateboard from the air, Espeon using her Psychic to grab the piece of wood and help her trainer from forgetting something else. Pretty soon they were flying through the streets, Espeon somehow able to retain her regal pose while they dodged people and Pokémon alike.

"Espeon!" The Pokémon suddenly shouted in her trainer's ear, the two were heading to Goldenrod City and were currently on a path that cut through a field.

"What?" The trainer glared at her Pokémon for a millisecond before following the other's gaze. A small Cubone was crying while two men who looked like poachers approached the poor Pokémon with greedy grins, batons, and nets. It only took a split second of observing the scene before she suddenly swerved off of her current path, her board hitting a rock at the perfect angle. What that means is that the girl was sent flying while the board flipped and landed perfectly in the middle of the path.

"What the?!" The poachers recoiled, not expecting a girl to roll in between them and their prize.

"Back off!" She growled, standing up with her Espeon in her arms from protecting the Eeveelution in her roll.

"Why should we little girl?!" One of them growled, his blue baseball cap shadowing his sneering face a little.

"We caught this runt fair and square!" The other added, his brown scruffy beard moving along with his harshly spat words.

"Well, this Pokémon obviously has a trainer! Until I can find them you're stuck with me!" The trainer bit back, her Pokémon nodding along with her hackles raised.

Mr.Baseball let out a shrill laugh that made Espeon's ears flatten and her trainer's nose scrunch up. "Are you kidding me?! We saw this little one get abandoned! Although it may not be too good of a Pokémon it's still something to sell! Maybe one of our buyers can whip it into shape!"

"Stand aside girly, this Pokémon's got no cause other than to be a good little rat," The other man had a grin on his face. His larger stature making the beginning part of his statement all the more condescending.

That just made the girl snap at them, "No way! Go get yourselves real jobs instead of terrorizing poor Pokémon!"

"Real jobs?!" Baseball Cap scoffed, lowering his net to take out a Pokéball. "This still brings in money you brat! Time to teach you some respect! Help me out Raticate!" The large Pokémon materialized from the Pokéball's blue light, baring its yellow teeth at the girl at its trainer's whim.

"We'll help out, won't we Arbok?!" The other man sent out his own Pokémon, the large purple snake hissing out its agreement.

"You leave this Cubone alone! Let's protect our new friend Espeon!" The Pokémon easily responded to her owner's call, baring her teeth at the larger and more intimidating Pokémon while she jumped into the ground.

"That Pokémon will make a great sale! Raticate, use Shadow Ball!" Baseball Cap ordered.

"We're business partners for a reason! Use Dark Pulse!" Beardy tacked on.

"This is easy! Protect!" Espeon quickly followed instructions. The black and purple attacks crashed against the light blue barrier to create a beautiful but intense scene. "We're not stopping so move out of our way! Use Swift on Raticate! Double it with a Psychic and make sure Arbok feels it with an extra Psybeam!"

Espeon's attacks worked out perfectly. Raticate was too stunned by the sudden attack to do much but flail beside Arbok when they were lifted into the air. They were slammed back into the ground, Arbok forced to bounce while Raticate laid on the ground. The snake was left to gravity's devices while Espeon occupied herself with launching a Psybeam at the flailing Cobra Pokémon.

During all of the chaos, the girl picked the shivering Pokémon up gently, smiling at the blue teary-eyed Lonely Pokémon. "Hey, buddy, my name's Pheonix, Phoenix Everfree. I'll be taking care of you so just hang in there okay?" The finally identified girl smiled a little wider. "Remember to call me Phe though, okay?"

The moment the Arbok hit the ground in a plume of dust the Raticate was on its feet. Baseball Cap instantly took advantage of his Pokémon's return in the battle. "We aren't done yet! Use Crunch!"

"Nor are we! Do what you do with Quick Attack!"

The Raticate rushed at Espeon, the other Pokémon using Quick Attack to dodge the rat's dark magical jaws. Before it could react Espeon was in front of it again, head butting the tan-colored Pokémon back to its owner.

"Don't let up! Use another Psybeam on our slithering friend!"

Beardy tried to counter the attack, "Counter with Dark Pulse!"

"Arbok!" The Cobra Pokémon responded, firing its own attack to counter the incoming one. The two beams met in the middle, fighting for minimal ground for a few moments before exploding into a smoke cloud.

Phe wasn't quite done with the poachers. "Don't give them a moment to breathe! Swift on Raticate, give our other friend an up close and personal beat down with Quick Attack!"

The newly risen Raticate was met with a Swift to the face, the white streak now known as Espeon hitting a blind Arbok dead center.

Phe decided to be ruthless as Arbok was pushed back an inch and Raticate's view was cleared a little. "Point blank Psybeam!"

Espeon understood what needed to happen in an instant and executed the order. Kicking off of Arbok with the remainder of her Quick Attack Espeon was pushed towards a wide-eyed Raticate. It only took only a moment before the other Pokémon was launched across the field, the Psybeam doing a number of the scorched ground was anything to go by.

"Use Crunch!"

"Quick! Protect!"

The recovered Arbok lashed out, trying to snap the airborne Pokémon out of the sky. Espeon twisted her body, watching the attack close around the summoned light blue orb with calm amethyst eyes.

The moment the snake's attack dissipated Phe was in action, "Use Psychic! Double the damage with Psybeam!"

Arbok was thrown like a rag doll, joining Raticate in a pile. Espeon twisted again, firing an attack at the vulnerable duo. It forced her to roll on her side but it was worth it from the large puff of smoke that followed.

"I've had enough of this, we have to get going," Phe grumbled, readjusting her grip on the small Pokémon in her arms quickly. "Come on Espeon!"

"Esp!" The Pokémon instantly nodded along, sprinting after her trainer who was leaving the poachers in the dust.

"Hey!!!"

Anymore protests reached deaf ears as Phe picked up the pace, jumping on her board one moment and rolling along with the next. Espeon jumped onto her trainer's shoulder easily, settling into her watchful sphinx pose while they flew along the path. "Esp? Espeon Espy?"

"Cu, Cubone," The smaller Pokémon responded after a few sniffles, looking at the Sun Pokémon cautiously meanwhile.

"I nearly forgot," Phe giggled, both Pokémon looking at the human with tilted heads.

"Esp?"

"Cu?"

"Well you see," Phoenix looked down at the Pokémon in her arms with a smile. "I was just thinking about something. If our friend here is okay with it I wouldn't mind having him join our journey... You are a guy right?"

Cubone nodded softly and hesitated for a moment before nuzzling into the other's stomach. "Cu, Cubone bone."

Espeon nodded in respect, rubbing her cheek against her trainer's to gain the human's attention. "Esp, Espeon."

"I'm assuming that's a yes," Phoenix chuckled. She took one of her hands away from supporting the Ground-type to grab something from her side. "You ready?"

Cubone wiped away the lingering tears before nudging the red and white orb in the other's hand. "Cu! Cubone!"

"Welcome to the team," Phe smiled at the object with the Psychic-type doing the same. The trainer looked at the horizon, her partner soon copying the action. "To Kalos we go."

"Esp Espeon!"

"Hey Cubone," The small Pokémon was let out of his new Pokéball, materializing next to the other Pokémon on Phe's lap. "You wanna look at us taking off?"

Cubone started shaking and whimpering at the prospect of being off of the ground. "Cu, Cubone..." The small Ground-type shook his head, eyes frozen to the window in fear.

"Esp..." The other Pokémon present frowned, deciding to do something that would help all who knew the poor little guy. Espeon nudged Cubone a little, allowing her to lay down on the edge of the trainer's lap. The Sun Pokémon licked the other's bony cheek in a show of comfort, purring and curling up around the other to continue with the comfort. Just to make the poor tearing up Pokémon even more comfortable she wrapped her odd tail around the other's waist and tugged him down to lean against her. Espeon began murmuring to the smaller one in a motherly tone, "Esp, Espeon Espeon. Espy Esp, Espeon Espeon Esp."

Cubone quickly shook his head at all of the purple one's words of comfort, "Cu, Cubone Cubone bone.

"Espy Espeon Espeon," She continued to purr, licking by the other's horns in the hopes of comforting the little guy. Eventually, it worked and Espeon nodded at her trainer to take the lead.

"Sorry about that buddy," Phe softly rubbed the Ground-type's back, her voice just as soft. "I didn't mean to freak you out. If you want you don't have to be out here, you can return to your Pokéball."

"Cu, Cubone bone Cubone," The other quickly shook his head, wiping away some of the tears in his eyes while the girls helped with the rest.

"You wanna stay out? You sure?" Phe tilted her head in curiosity and worry.

"Cu," Cubone gave a sharp nod of his head, giving the trainer a determined look that surprised her.

It took a moment for her to react to the fire burning in the other's navy blue eyes but she did. She responded with a small grin and a pat on the tan one's head, "I can't argue if you really want to. I'll be right here if you need me. Mommy Espy too," Espeon sent her trainer a withering look but the brunette simply sent the Pokémon a grin. The Psychic-type rolled her eyes, diverting her attention back to Cubone and his position and comfort between his trainer and the Eeveelution. After deciding that it was okay Espeon curled more closely around Cubone, making sure her purrs drowned out some of the starting engine noise.

Cubone watched it all in interest, the added purring by his side helping him not freak out much. By the time they were in the air the Ground-type was half asleep. The smaller Pokémon yawned before leaning on Phe's expanding and collapsing diaphragm, out like a light. Before Espeon also went to sleep Phe mouthed 'thank you' to the other. It was apparently a domino effect because pretty soon Phe was knocked out too.

"--put your tray tables up and--"

Phe opened her eyes, blinking a few times to get her vision cleared. She started yawning, her hazel eyes closing to add to the effect.

"--Welcome to Kalos."

Phe finally clued back into the intercom, closing her jaw with an audible 'clack' before shaking her Pokémon lightly. The two woke up, Espeon glaring at the other while Cubone just gave a confused look.

Phoenix couldn't control the grin that split across her face.

"We're here."
