Cadence's POV
After finishing breakfast, I quickly got changed and prepared to head to the church
I wore a pure white, long-sleeved gown with gold thread and flower crystals that had been one of the specially custom made dresses
{ See image above }
My hair was tied up into a neat, classy bun and a tiara was put on to show my status as Princess of the kingdom
Currently, I was sitting in the carriage, waiting for us to arrive
This was my first time outside of the palace walls, and I could not help but be mesmerized by the kingdom
It seems that the city was decked out in decorations and celebrations for my birthday which I admittedly felt shy about
It felt quite strange to see the entire population of citizens celebrate my birthday.
Eventually, we arrived at the church
It was quite large and looked just as I imaged it to be
Waiting at the entrance were numerous priests and bishops
I recognized a certain man at the front to be the archbishop who crowned my Mother
He smiled as he and all the others proceeded to bow
[ "We welcome you honoured guests, to our humble church" ]
[ "It is nice to see you again, Archbishop" ]
Lady Lena replies politely
It seems that they have some familiar relationship based on the friendly atmosphere between them
[ "Indeed, it has been a while my Lady" ]
[ "The preparations have all been made, your highness please follow me inside" ]
I simply nod in response and proceed to follow the archbishop inside
It seems that only the archbishop and I are going, as everyone else is waiting outside
We enter a room full with large stained, glass mosaics of various beings with beautiful wings
Perhaps the Archbishop could see my fascination in my face, as he said
[ "These are all fairies whom we worship, your highness" ]
[ "Do they all have names?" ]
I ask curiously
He nods in response
He points to two of the mosaics on the further left
The first one looks to be a beautiful, brown-haired woman with mesmerizing, colourful wings that resemble that of a butterflies
[ "That one is the fairy of the forest animals. We call her by the name of Silva" ]
The second one he points to is a bright red haired male that looks to be very youthful and mischievous. His wings are black and smaller in size
[ "This one is Artibus, the male fairy of tricks" ]
[ "Wow..." ]
I can't help but let out in a fascinated tone
[ "There are many fairies your highness, these are only the ones we know of" ]
[ "I see... thank you for telling me about them" ]
The Archbishop looks surprised about my reply but it quickly turns into a pleasant smile
[ "Now I think it is about time we begin the magic aptitude test" ]
The Archbishop leads me to a shiny crystal ball placed in the centre of the room
[ "It is an easy procedure your highness, simply place your hands on the crystal ball" ]
[ "The colour and brightness that the crystal ball transforms to, will indicate your affinities and strength" ]
I nod and proceed to place both my palms on the crystal ball
My heart was racing and I was anticipating the results greatly
Immediately upon contact, the crystal ball shines brightly
I can feel my eyes strain as I stare at the blinding light of the crystal ball, that seemed to change into every single colour of the rainbow
The light kept getting immensely brighter and brighter until all of a sudden, a large shatter can be heard
I scream and fall down in shock
[ "Y-your Highness are you alright?!" ].
The archbishop quickly comes to help me up
[ "Y-yes... what happened?" ]
He stares at me, eyes wide and full of shock
[ "It... it seems your highness has broken the crystal ball" ]
He says well stuttering
[ "Ah, I-i'm so sorry!" ]
[ "No, no it is fine we have others but the breaking of a crystal ball... this has never occurred before and such a blinding light and so many colours..." ]
[ "Forgive me your highness but I am unable to tell just what exactly your magic aptitude is..." ]
Eh?
I would be lying to say I wasn't even a tad bit disappointed but I wasn't sad or upset over it
I guess it can't be helped after all...
[ "It's okay, it is my fault that it broke in the first place" ]
I say in reassurance
[ "But your highness, what shall you do for your birthday ball?" ]
Ah how could I forget about that
Well whatever it's no big deal
I'm not the type to show off my magic anyways well if I have any that is...
I mean what does a broken crystal ball, indicate?
[ "I should go inform his majesty the Emperor about this immediately! Excuse me your highness for my rudeness, but I must quickly leave!" ]
The archbishop says abruptly before quickly rushing out, leaving me standing there confused
Well... this what not what I had expected...
I'm not sure exactly what just happened and what it meant
What exactly is my magic aptitude?
Could I be one of those rare occurrences where I was born with no magic affinities?
It would be a shame to be born into magic using world only to not have any but I'll still live without it I suppose...
But it doesn't make sense, usually, when someone does not have any magic affinities, the crystal ball simply doesn't shine at all
I've read all of the books in our royal library about it but it's like archbishop said
This has never occurred before
Well, whatever... I'll just head back for now before Lady Lena gets worried...
I walk back alone, feeling confused and conflicted at the events that just passed
Chapter End
A/N: Hehe double update in a day! Somehow reading and replying to all the comments of you guys made me inspired again! ♡
Anyways after reading a comment of a reader, it has come to my attention that once again I have made the ages of the characters too young (those who have read my other book will know)
Thus I have gone through all the chapters or at least most and changed the ages of everyone
Basically, I've added two years so now instead of Cadence turning 3 she is turning 5
I thought that was a bit of an improvement
So now, if you notice the changes you'll understand why
Thank you all for reading, stay tuned for next week ♡
