I started to cry from joy of seeing my mom again.
"What did you say?!" Mom said
"I am your son!" I say, smiling "It's me. Kaden!"
"How do you know my son's name?" Mom said
"Because I am Kaden." I say
"Kaden!" Mom says wide eyed, recognizing my voice
"Yes. It's me!" I say closing my eyes, having a toothy smile
I cut open the cage doors with my claws and my mom runs out to hug me. She tackled me. We both started to cry with joy.
"My son!" She said sobbing
Jack and everyone else stood by and looked at us smiling.
"Two years that we were separated!" Mom said "How did you manage?!"
"Foster care can't hold me!" I said laughing
We both started to laugh.
'Finally!' I thought to myself 'We are reunited!'
We stood there hugging still until a small voice sounded.
"Kaley?" A small voice in the cage said
Kaley walked up to the cage
"Who is that?" Kaley asked looking inside, watching a small silhouette.
Then from the darkness the silhouette emerged and I saw the small boy from my dream.
"Zachary!" Kaley said happily, running in to hug the boy
We all watched them hugging. I looked at the boy in astonishment.
'I had a dream that matched his exact body!' I thought to myself
After we all were reunited, I explained to everyone in case they didn't realize that I was a human. My mom studied me and was still overjoyed to know that I was alive.
"I see that you found the digivice I wanted to give you." Mom said, smiling
"Yeah. I found it after I had become a Digimon." I said
"Hey Jack! We should probably get going before these Digimon wake up." I shouted to Jack, who was talking to Kaley and her brother.
"Good idea." Jack said "Could you tell them that we are going?"
"Sure." I say "Hey everybody. We are getting ready to go. You know the routine. Gather all of your stuff."
I was walking over to my mom when somebody jumped on my back and brought me to the ground.
"Hey what's your problem!?" I say
"Hahaha!" Agumon says, starting to tickle me
"Ah! What are you doing?!" I say laughing
"Seeing if your ticklish! I was right!" Agumon said laughing, stopping the tickle attack
I got up and dusted off, then I kept walking to my mom.
"You've gotten so old Kaden." My mom said
"I'm only sixteen years old." I said looking concerned "That's not much of a difference."
"It's not that you got two years older than when I last saw you, it's that you have matured so much. You took care of yourself for two years!" Mom said
"Yeah. Now that you say it, that does seem sort of impressive that I changed the way I lived in a day. And I had to pay bills and all those other annoying things." I say
I look over and see Jack running over to me and my mom.
"Hey Kaden. We have been thinking, and we thought that we could use that cage as a type of shelter." Jack said
"How are we going to do that?" I say
Then I realized what he was implying me to do.
"Oh my gosh..." I say putting my hand over my face
"What is it he wants you to do." Mom asked
"How do you expect me to digivolve myself?" I ask
Nicolas walked over.
"Your digivice allows you to digivolve if you know how to use your digisoul." Nicolas said "you were human once. You should have one and be able to use it."
"Oh. Okay thanks Nicolas." I said smiling
"You could access it by imagining yourself in your digivolved form, and snapping. Just anything to cause a burst. Go ahead and try it." Nicolas said
I thought about myself being my digivolved form. I then snapped. I felt something in my hand. I looked at my hand and was amazed. There was a pixel looking flame in my hand that looked like the same one I saw in Nicolas' hand, it just wasn't the same color as his. Mine was green however.
"Put it into the top of your digivice! Quickly." Nicolas said
I placed my hand on the top of my digivice. I saw a light come from the front where the screen was. I looked at the screen and saw that it said evolution. The screen had words that said "Evolution". Then a beam shot out of it and surrounded me. I could feel myself growing, and gaining the armor and horns. After it finished, I had an amazed look, not because of what I digivolved into, because of the way I digivolved. I see my mom looking at me, shocked at what I did.
"What?" I asked with a deep voice "You saw me like this earlier."
"It's just, I didn't know it was you at the time..." Mom said
I bent down on my knees to look my mom in the eyes. She walks up to me and rubs my head.
"Sorry. It's just... I wanted to see you as a human. I didn't expect to see you like this, then again, I didn't know if I would ever see you again." She said
"I'm sorry that this surprised you, but this is who I am now, and there is going to be a lot more things that happen. I am more than likely going to be able to change even more and become much larger." I said, having empathy for the situation she was in
"Okay... well we need to get going. Let's not keep your friends waiting!" She said, perking up
"Right." I said, standing up.
I walk over to the cage and lift it up. I pick it up and here a voice coming from inside it.
"Zachary?!" I hear the voice of a Digimon say
I stop to look inside the cage and I see a Tentamon.
"Zachary is out here. I reckon that your his partner." I say, putting the cage on the ground to let Tentamon out to join Zachary
Tentamon jumps out and runs up to Zachary.
"Who are these people and Digimon?" Tentamon asked
"Friends of my sister." Zachary said, glancing over towards Kaley and the others
I lifted the cage back up turning toward the direction we were going. Luckily my iPod was on shuffle, so I didn't have to ask someone to turn it on for me. Somehow I managed to put the headphones in my ears, which were behind a symmetrical piece of armor on my head. The song Technologic by Daft Punk was on.
We started to go North-North East again. While we were going there, Zachary and Tentamon got tired and I put them on my shoulders. We walked for about an hour until finally...
"Hey guys!" Zachary yelled right next to my ear "I see a forest!"
"Owww." I said over dramatically
"Sorry." Zachary said
I look straight ahead and squint. I see what looks like a forest in the distance. I turn towards Jack and everyone else, who were walking to the left of me. I stop walking and place the cage on the ground and bend down, staying on my feet but bending my knees.
"We have reached the Eastern Forest!" I say, smiling
It is mid-day by the time we are truly at the Eastern Forest. We walk into the shade of the trees where I drop the cage to the ground and lean up against a tree.
"Are we going to stay here for awhile?" I ask, feeling exhausted
"Depends. Are you tired?" Jack asked
"Yes. Exhausted." I say, "Might be thirty minutes until I'm active again."
"Okay." Jack said "Since our shelter carrier has exhausted his muscles, we are going to rest for half an hour."
"No, you don't need to stop because of me." I said
"It's not just you that we're stopping for. Everyone else is tired." Jack said
"Good point. I wasn't thinking about everyone else." I said, having a realization-type of look
We were all sitting around in the shade of the tree. Kaley, Zachary, and Tentamon were sleeping soundly, laying up against my hide(skin). I sit, watching everyone talking and playing.
'I feel like a big brother, watching over all of these people.' I think to myself, smiling and closing my eyes
I could hear a sound that had a piano, drums, and what sounded like an acoustic guitar.
'My iPod!' I thought, remembering it was in my digivice still
The song I was listening to brought memories back of my childhood, before my forced adulthood. When I could go home and a meal would be ready for me, and I could feel the loving arms of my parents when I am hurt. Without them wondering how to help a lizard-person when there cut. It was like reminiscing. I reflected back on all my mistakes and happy times.
'I loved that time when I showed up the person bullying my friend. The look on his face!' I thought, smiling slightly
I have a thought of my friend.
'I wonder if he would still be my friend if he saw me like this.' I thought to myself, rubbing my chin with my left hand, stroking an imaginary beard 'He did say that he promised me eternal friendship.'
"Hey Kaden." Mom said, walking over to sit next to me
"Hey..." I said, looking up at the trees
"What are you thinking about?" Mom asked
"I'm just having memories of life before the accident." I say
Mom had a sorry look on her face.
"I am sorry I wasn't there for you..." She said
"It's not your fault. It's not anyone's..." I said gradually getting quiet
"That isn't what you think is it?" Mom asked
"No. I want to kill that man!" I said loudly
"That won't solve anything Kaden. That would leave his family to go through what you have gone through." Mom said
"Sorry... I let my feelings get the best of me." I said looking my mom in the eye
"It's okay Kaden." She said, rubbing my right hands claws
"Are we a broken family?" I asked, feeling tears well up in my eyes
"No. We aren't." Mom said
"Madelyn would've loved to see you." I said, starting to cry
"Yes, she would have..." Mom said "You know what Kaden? I think we should get Madelyn from her foster area, and bring her home to us."
"That would be amazing..." I said
'God am I tired!' I thought to myself
"I'm going to try to sleep. Okay?" I said to Mom
"Okay..." Mom said
"Hey Kaden." Nicolas said, approaching me and my mom
"Yes?" I ask
"If your planning to sleep, you should probably do it in rookie form." Nicolas said
"That's right." I said
I let myself relax and allowed my muscles to calm down. Then, I started to change back to rookie form.
"Thanks Nicolas..." I said, closing my eyes and dropping my head back, attempting to go to sleep.
My mom was singing a lullaby that she sang to me when I was four, while she rubbed the back of my head.
'Funny. Moms know exactly how to comfort even reptilian children.' I thought to myself
I fell asleep that night with ease, knowing my mother was safe.
