Riley's POV
I'm sitting at the kitchen's table, eating oatmeal when dad, Elliot and Auggie enter the living with shaving cream on their faces
"Hey, honey, what's for breakfast?" Dad asks
"Aw, it looks like Elliot and Auggie are trying to be Daddy's little men"
"Yes, so come over here and give Papa a smooch"
"Oh yeah, come over here and give Papa a smooch" Dad repeats after my little brother
"No, I am in the middle of a case, I have to be at the courthouse early and I really can't have shaving cream-"
They both get shaving cream on mom's cheeks
"Nice job" they shake hands. While they were busy doing that Elliot wiped his shaving cream off.
"Pleasure doing business with you" As they wipe their shaving cream off he sits on the table
"Well, I wasn't trying to be dad's little man, I actually have facial hair" mom frowns
"I can't believe it"
"Well, you should" he replies all proud
"Elliot, you literally had three hairs" dad adds and I smirk
"Looks like you shaved for Maya, didn't you?"
"Wha-of course not!"
"You better stay away from her"
"Why should I?"
"Because you're a ladies man while she's a troublemaker, no good things would come out of that relationship, plus, she doesn't need to be hurt even more" he frowns
"You know I could never hurt her" my parents smirk
"I do not have a crush on her!" As he finishes the sentence the intercom buzzes.
"Maya and Farkle"
"How's my hair?"
"Are you serious?" I roll my eyes in annoyance but the decide to ignore his behavior. Today is a happy day! I stand up and open the door for them before walking back to the table
"Those are my friends. I love my friends. It's a sunny day. I love a sunny day. I love my friends. I love my family. I love a sunny day. I even love going to school"
"Okay, what's going on with her?" Dad asks
"I don't know. Don't do anything" How silly of them
"I'm in a good mood" I snap my fingers
"This life thing? I think I got it down"
Maya and Farkle finally enter
Maya's POV
I can't even say hi before miss.Matthews gives me an order
"Maya, oatmeal" How does she know that I didn't eat breakfast?!
"No thanks, Mrs. Matthews"
"Oh, I wasn't asking" Do I have to? I'm not hungry at all
"Yeow" I say before sitting down to eat
"Farkle, you too" he closes the door behind him
Thank you. But my mother already made me eggs, home fries, wheat toast, marmalade and a strawberry shaped like a star" Wish I had his mother!
"I'm going to the Farkle's. Who's with me?!" Auggie read my mind
"Hey, Auggie, guess what? It's Googly time" mr. Matthews says to his youngest son
"No TV at the table"
"You're right, Topanga. This table is about the discussion of today's events only. Riley"
"I woke up. I love everything. I sat here"
"Elliot?"
"I woke up, I shaved. I sat here" he shaved?! I find it hard to contain my laughter.
"All caught up. Googly time!" he turns on the tv
"You shaved?" I ask him as everyone starts singing along to the intro of the cartoon
"Yeah" he says proudly and I chuckle
"What did you shave? Your legs?" he rolls his eyes
"Haha, very funny, but this guy right here" he points at himself
"Was able to grow three hairs before shaving them, you know, I prefer a clean face" as I'm about to reply I notice that Auggie turns off the TV
"Hey!" we all say in unison
"I'm too old for Mr. Googly" he says as he walks over to the couch
"What?" Topanga is clearly upset and I can't blame her.
"But, Auggie, Mr. Googly's your best friend" she picks up a Mr. Googly doll, and pretends to be it
"Auggie, I'm your foogly boogly best friend"
"Can I tell you a secret?"
"Of course. You can tell Mr. Googly all your secrets"
"I have a new best friend now"
"Oh really? Who would that be?"
"I don't wanna tell you who she is"
"She?!" Everyone says in surprise
"I've said too much"
"I'm so proud of him, he's following his brother's footsteps" Elliot whispers to me with a smirk
"Shut up" what a jerk. I don't get why he enjoys being a heart rob, he makes all those girls believe in love until he dumps them. There's nothing enjoyable with that. I keep my attention to Auggie and miss. Matthews
"Okay, why don't you tell Mr. Googly all about your new best friend and none of us will listen" everyone turns around, looking away.
"I'm this many. I'm done with you now. Goodbye" when we turn around he puts the doll on the couch. Shocking.
"They grow up so fast" my best friend says.
*later, at school*
"I was so worried about this new school year. New school, new people, I didn't think I was going to survive. Not only am I surviving, I'm thriving. I'm like a plant going like this" she does an awkward pose, typical Riley.
"What was I so worried about?" Oh no! I look into the classroom and see a girl, Missy Bradford flirting with Lucas, what do I do?! Not enough time to think! I cover my best friend's eyes
"What are you doing? Oh, this is too easy. It's Maya. I know because I saw you put your hand over my face. I'll do you now" she covers my eyes.
"Oh, that's not the game"
"What's the game?"
"The game is protect the plant from the bulldozer in the pink sweater" I gotta protect her innocence at every cost.
R"Oh, Maya, bulldozers don't wear pink" oh no, she looks into the classroom and sees them flirting
"Huh" Damn it.
"You okay?"
"Yeah" Nope, she's not she's sliding down until she's sitting and I join her
"Oh, look what the bulldozer did to you"
"There are other girls, in this world"
"There are"
"And other girls, like Missy Bradford, are going to talk to Lucas"
"They are"
"I don't like that"
"I know" my poor baby is feeling jealousy for the first time, just like me. I don't like that girl either and before you say it: yes, I do have a little tiny crush for him but I feel like the truly deserves better than me or that Missy, he is perfect for Riley.
"I wish the world was just me and you"
"Then it is" we go inside and the lesson finally starts.
"Sneak attack. December 7th, 1941"
"A date which will live in infamy"
"A date? They're going on a date? In Italy?" Oh honey
"No, honey. You're in History"
"I'm history?"
"Okay, put your hand up" I lift Riley's arm
"Yes, Riley? You have a pertinent observation on the subject of the sneak attack?"
"May I be excused?" I say to encourage her to talk
"My eyes see my shoes" I point at Missy and Lucas
"Yes, Riley, you may be excused"
"Forever?"
"No, you have to come back to class at some point, honey. You just have to" she somehow manages to exit without falling on the ground or something similar
"It was another sunny day in paradise, before the sneak attack that changed everything"
Oh! Another embarrassing moment is about to happen very soon since Riles is peeking out from the window, spying on Missy and Lucas.
"Do you like the movies? Dark at the movies"
"Depends on the movie. Depends who I'm going with"
"Scary movies? I get scared at scary movies. You'll take care of me though, right?" Ugh, disgusting, I just wanna throw up from the cringe of this dialogue. Seems like my partner in crime agrees with me, she looks like she's about to explode
"People who had viewed themselves as safe, no longer had any security at all"
"Just you and me, Missy?"
"Just you and me, Lucas" Missy taps Lucas's nose
"Boop"
"Boop? That's the best you got?" this is about to go down!
"Please be cool, please be cool, please be cool" I say more for myself, I can't blame her, I feel like her, I just have more control over my actions.
"You don't think that I can do boop?"
"How bad do you think this is gonna be?" I ask Farkle
"I think we should have some faith in our Riley"
"I can do boop like you've never seen. Boop!" there are no words to express what I'm seeing.
"Does anybody see this?" why is her still finger in his nose?!
"Everybody sees this"
"Take your finger out!" I order
"Can't. Can't move. Scared. Do you think Lucas knows?" I'm just gonna answer to this question as truthfully as I can
"Riley, I've never seen anything like this before, I don't know what's gonna happen"
"Farkle?"
"Boy, Riley. I don't think I could do that even if I tried" he stands up
"Hey, Maya, boop. Oh no" I'm gonna kill him after this.
"The bombing of Pearl Harbor was our official entrance into a world at war, and nothing would ever be the same"
*at lunchtime*
"You want me to bring you lunch?" I hate seeing her this upset, it makes me feel sad, more than usual.
"No. Food would only keep me alive"
"Come on, little plant, come back into the sun"
"I'm afraid something terrible will happen if I ever come out of here"
"Riley, that's crazy. Nothing could be worse than what's already happened" Never mind, Missy walks up to us
"Oh, there you are. I've been looking for you. You're not upset with me, are you? Because I didn't hear that you and Lucas were together or anything"
"We're not"
"Hmm, yeah, that's what I thought. So if you're not, then it's not a problem if I ask Lucas out, because he's really cute. Don't you think?" Is she really doing what I think she's doing? I take this as a personal attack
"I loathe you"
"Well, Lucas doesn't. In fact, I think he's kind of into me. Shocker" What a...
"I live here now"
*hours later, at the bay window*
"I think of this as a personal challenge issued by Missy Bradford to grow up, and to grow up fast. So what do I do?" I simply reply
"Nothing"
"Give me advice. You're a genius at this. Grow me up"
"Why?"
"Because everybody else is"
"That's not the way I see it"
"How can you see it any other way?" I really need to help her open her eyes
"Missy Bradford has decided to grow up fast. That has nothing to do with you"
"But what if Lucas takes her to a scary movie? 'I get scared at scary movies. You'll take care of me, won't you?' Barf! Barf, I say!"
"Riley, do you want Lucas to take you to the movies?"
"Alone? I don't know if I'm ready for that" well, you better be soon, because I don't know if I'll be able to keep my emotions for him down any longer. If you'll start dating my hopes will crush immediately and I'll just move on like I always did.
"Then what do you want from him?"
"I don't know. I just, I don't want him with her. Am I jealous?"
"You wouldn't know how to be jealous"
"I just, I don't want him taken away from us. She's bad news. Teach me how to flirt" I think she's attempting to wink
"Not gonna do that"
"Why not?"
"I don't even know how to flirt. Who our age knows how to flirt?" as I finish the sentence Elliot opens the door
"Well, hello"
"You heard everything?" I ask him
"Yup" seems like Riley doesn't care about it
"Elliot, you're the biggest flirt in eighth grade"
"Why, thank you-well, Farkle is the biggest flirt in the whole school but I'm the one who gets all the girls" I roll my eyes
"Can you teach me how to flirt with Lucas?"
"No, but I have a plan, and we'll need Farkle" I don't think this will turn out good.
*the next day, at the cafeteria*
"Time for the plan, you ready Farkle?" Elliot asks him
"Yeah"
"So what are you gonna do, genius?" I ask him
"I think I'll just steal her from Lucas myself"
"Very detailed plan" I say with sarcasm
"How's my hair?"
"Hasn't changed in six years"
"She doesn't stand a chance he walks over to Missy
"Why did you make Farkle ho instead of doing it yourself?" I ask Elliot
"Because I don't like her"
"Wow, she's the only girl in school you don't like! This must mean she's the devil" our conversation is interrupted by Farkle coming back
"It worked. I'm next" I sigh
"Riley, she's too good. You can't compete with her"
"I don't want them together. I don't" oh no...
"Riley?" I try to warn her
"Lucas"
"Riley"
"I don't know what's going on here and I don't have any right to say this, but I don't think you should hang out alone with this girl" what is she doing?
"Why not?"
"I don't really know, but I think, if you actually spend time with her alone it's gonna change things for you know, all of us"
"Well, aren't you just a concerned friend?" Missy better shut up
"Yeah, I am"
"Well, with you around, how could I ever possibly get Lucas alone?" she throws potatoes on Lucas' and her face
"Food fight!" Her plan worked since she got mr. Matthews' attention
"No food fight! Detention this afternoon, both of you!"
"Oh no. Both of us. Alone" Not happening! After lunch everyone retires, Farkle and Elliot included, leaving me and Riley alone with her father.
"How could you do that, Dad?"
"What did I do?"
"You gave them detention together"
"I was the cafeteria monitor. I saw potatoes not where potatoes are supposed to be. Detention him, detention her"
"But Lucas didn't even do anything"
"Don't care. I'm mad with power"
"Then I want detention too"
"You do? Riley, you've never had detention in your whole life. What could you possibly do that would get you detention on such short notice?" Oh, he clearly has no idea...
"I could introduce you to my special guest star" I jump on his back
"Nothing personal, bub"
"Yeah, that'll do it" I hop off
"Nice job" we shake hands
"Pleasure doing business with you" Perfect! We head to the classroom, waiting for the cowboy and Missy and I smile as soon as I see them.
"How you doin'?"
"What are you doing here?"
"Oh, I'm a bad girl"
"Yeah" I point at Riley
"You don't wanna mess with this one" They sit down and mr. Matthews comes in
"Alright, guys. I like my detention to have a little learning in it. So, I'd like to continue talking about Pearl Harbor and what happened after the sneak attack. The world was at war and alliances were forged in battle and were made stronger because of that. During this world war, the United States was put to one of its greatest tests, when it made a threat to our way of life but because we were united, we prevailed"
"Hey Riley. Missy invited me to see a movie with her" Dear cowboy, these are no news to us.
"I think she's aware of that, Lucas. No need to make her feel worse"
"And I was wonderin' if maybe you guys would like to come along with us" Interesting...
"You want us?"
"I'm sorry, Lucas. That wasn't the invitation" she's getting annoyed, how enjoyable.
"Oh. Well, then. I'm sorry, Missy, but I can't go"
"What are you talking about? Nobody's ever turned me down in my life"
"Well, see? These are my friends and I don't like doing anything without his friends. Right, Riley?"
"Yeah... right"
"Now, I certainly appreciate you're wanting me to take care of you during a scary movie and you showing me your leg and all but back in the 6th grade, I think maybe we'd have more fun just hanging out together" What a smart move Huckleberry. I smirk at her
"Boop" she picks up her books, sits up, and gets in front of us
"Grow up" she says before walking away. Freedom
"Not yet"
"Oh, she's leaving? Okay"
"Hey" Riley says to Lucas
"Hey"
"You know what the easiest thing about having friends is?"
"What?"
"Sometimes, all you have to do is trust them"
"When peace time came, the United States enjoyed its greatest period of growth, prosperity and happiness. Detention over. You're guys done?"
"No. We're good right here" Her father goes out as well and after a few minutes I get bored because those two lovebirds keep talking between them, leaving me out. As much as I hate admitting it I'm jealous as well, I like him, but I'll just bury my feelings, Riley's happiness is more important. I stand up
"Where are you going?" he asks me
"I forgot I had something to do at home" Riley looks terrified and I smile
"So I'll have to leave you two alone, you won't mind, right?" The cowboy smiles
"It's fine"
"Perfect, see ya later" I finally get out. Free, at last! Wait, more problems. There's Missy, with Elliot. She's clearly complaining about something and it's pretty obvious that he doesn't wanna be bugged by her. I get closer to hear the conversation they're having in front of his locker
"Listen, your sister is really rude. She thought I was flirting with Lucas and made a plot against me to take revenge" Elliot rolls his eyes
"I'm sorry Missy but I can't control my sister"
"I understand...You see, the truth is that..." she gently touches his arm. I feel my blood boiling up.
"I like older guys"
"Really?" he asks nonchalantly
"Yup" she smirks
"Like you" you can tell that he's super uncomfortable right now. I have to do something
"Hey Elliot! How's it going?" I hug him and hold his hand.
"Oh hi Missy I didn't see you!" she rolls her eyes
"What do you want Hart? Are you jealous?" I chuckle nervously
"Me? Jealous? Of what?"
"That I might be trying to steal your man"
"Him? My boyfriend?!" I laugh
"Why would you think that we're together?"
"Because you're still holding hands"
"Oh no we are-"
"Yes, Maya is my girlfriend" I stare at Elliot in shock, what is he doing?!
"Oh really?"
"Yeah, we've been keeping it low key and we'd like to stay it that way if you don't mind"
"I don't believe you, prove it"
"We're already holding hands" I say in a 'duh' tone
"I need more. Kiss and I'll believe you" well, we're in a huge mess right now.
"Sure, no problem, right Maya?" I think about it, this would be my first kiss ever, and I don't wanna have it with my best friend's brother but in the other hand I have to help a friend in need.
"Maya?"
"What? Of course not"
"Great" I look at the floor
"Come on, kiss" I'm against a locker with Riley's brother and he is about to give me my first kiss. I just hope that I won't throw up. He gently takes my hands
"Ready?" he whispers to me in a husky voice, sending shivers all over my spine
"Let's just get this over with" he nods and we slowly start leaning in until our lips touch. It's a soave and soft kiss that lasts for a good minute. I never intended for it to be this long. There's just something pushing me onto wanting more. He moves his hands over my face, cupping it.
"Okay, woah! I asked for a simple kiss! Not a make out scene!" We pull away in embarrassment
"That wasn't a make out session at all!" I reply, irritated but she doesn't pay attention to me because she's watching at her phone.
"But we can give you one" I glare at him
"But we won't, now, you won't tell anyone, right? We'd like to keep it a secret"
"Oh, what? Sorry I was just busy publishing a video I took you while you were kissing, you were just too cute, bye!" she walks away. Shocker.
"We're in a mess" he nods
"Yeah" I sigh
"Maya?"
"Yeah?"
"Not bad for your first kiss" I blush
"That wasn't my first kiss" he chuckles
"Yes it was"
"It wasn't"
"I can recognize a first-kisser baby and you were one of the them"
"S-shut up!" I say as I blush harder
"Okay, sorry" he replies in laughter
"I gotta go home now and think how I'm gonna tell my best friend who is also your sister that I kissed her brother"
"Fine, I'll think of something as well" I take my backpack
"Elliot?"
"Yeah?"
"You're a pretty good kisser as well" I say before going home
Elliot's POV
Wow, I just kissed Maya Hart, the Maya Hart. I head home with the thought of her soft lips over mine. She was so nervous, it was adorable!
"Hello family!"
"Hi Elliot" I'm greeted by mom and dad
"How's Auggie?"
"We've convinced him to keep mr. Goggly"
"Awesome!"
"Why so happy?"
"No reason at all!" I reply before going to my room where I find Riley, she looks pretty mad.
"Hey sis, is there something wrong?"
"Yes, can you tell me why Maya isn't replying to any of my messages and doesn't pick up the phone?" I shrug
"Then I guess you can tell me why there's a video of you two kissing?!" I shush her
"Don't yell, do you know what mom and dad will do if they find out?"
"You kissed my best friend!"
"It was for a good reason! And I did it with her consent!"
"Then tell me the story!"
"Missy was bugging me and Maya came to the rescue"
"Oh, so you kissed her to thank her?!"
"No! Listen, Missy wouldn't leave me alone. Maya joined our conversation and she thought that she was jealous because we were together"
"So?!"
"So I said that we were in fact a couple!"
"Are you out of your mind?!"
"I know, I know" I sigh
"I just wanted her to leave me alone and the only way was to say that I was Maya's boyfriend"
"You are so-"
"I know. So Missy didn't believe us and asked us to prove it by kissing. So we did, we kissed but she caught it on camera and published it"
"So there are no feelings involved?"
"No"
"Great"
"I think" She frowns
"Maya doesn't need a boyfriend like you, you would hurt her"
"I've never hurt her"
"Because you stayed friends, and that's how it'll go, right? You'll stay friends?" I nod
"Yes Riley, we'll stay friends"
"Great"
"Are you mad?"
"Elliot, that was her first kiss"
"I know"
"She wanted to have it with someone important in her life"
"I know"
"And yet, she gave up on that just to rescue you"
"I know"
"Did you thank her at least?" I shake my head
"This is what I'm talking about, you didn't even thank her!"
"Geez I just forgot" she stands up
"Whatever" she says before walking away.
