Nafessa Williams

I woke up with my arms around a sleeping Toni. Smiling at her, I slowly picked my arm up and headed towards my bathroom. I ran through my whole morning routine before walking back out. My eyes glanced at the clock and I saw that it was 3 pm.

Damn. I was really tired. Walking over to my dresser, I grabbed a random shirt and threw it over my head as my phone began ringing. Trying to answer before it woke Toni, I damn near flew over to my nightstand.

I answered when I saw it was my mom. "Hello?"

Walking out of my room, I stepped into the living room. "Hey Princess. You're awake. Good. Look, I just put some money in your account, but your check should be hitting today as well. It should cover you all but let me know if you or Toni need anything alright?"

"Yes ma'am. I will."

"What's the plan for today? Anything on the schedule?"

"No. I don't think so. We are just going to probably chill here or go to the movies." I replied softly.

"Oh okay. Well let me know. I have to go though, my meetings in five. Mommy loves you."

"Love you more."

"Bye bye sweetie. Call if you need something." She hung up.

"Is that really the plan?" Toni's voice made me jump.

I turned around and looked at her. "Hell no. Gil's having a party tonight. It starts at 7, you in?"

Toni hesitated. "I- I don't know. That isn't my crowd. Well really no one is my crowd. Plus, Gil and Kelly are close. Which means Janet isn't gonna be far behind. I'll pass on that."

Nodding, even though I was kind of bummed out because I wanted to go, I didn't sweat on it. "Okay, that's cool. What do you want to do then?"

"I didn't say you couldn't go. I can just go home until you're—."

"Whoa. Whoa. No." I shook my head. "It's either all or nothing. I'm not ditching you for them. If you don't want to go then I'm not going. Simple."

She nodded softly. "Okay, well then let's go."

My face furrowed. "You just said you didn't want to T."

"I know what I said. I'll go though. You really want to go, even though you won't say it, so let's go." She mumbled.

"No. It's alright. You said you aren't comfortable and I don't want—."

"I never said I wasn't comfortable. I said that wasn't my crowd. We can go. I just don't have anything to wear."

I found myself smiling. "Let's go shopping."

"And spend the cash my mom gave me for this weekend? No. I'll pass."

"Who said you had to pay?" I asked her. "I can pay."

Toni looked at me and rolled her eyes. "Now it's definitely a no. Next idea?"

"My closet could do you some justice. Come on." I grabbed her hand, and butterflies erupted into my stomach. Did she feel them? I pulled her all the way to my closet and hit the light switch. "I'm pretty sure we can't fit the same size in pants cause you're lucky enough to have more hips but I got dresses."

"Eh. Alright."

Rummaging through stuff, I found a dress and held it up. "How you feeling?"

"Nope. Why is it so small?"

"It stretches once you put it on. Look, just go try it. You might like it." I replied to her as I put the dress into her hands and marched her to my restroom. She closed the door and I went back to my closet and found some shorts and a crop. Throwing it on, I looked at myself in the mirror and threw a jacket on top.

Nodding, I quickly grabbed some shoes as Toni walked back into my room in the dress.

On instinct, I bit my lip but I noticed her face. "You don't like it huh?"

"It's too tight and I'm not used to wearing dresses that aren't church appropriate and this is far from appropriate." She muttered as she looked at herself in my mirror.

"Hey now." I called out playfully. "Texas is a whole different ball park."

"How come you get the shorts and the shirt?" She asked me as she looked me over.

"Fine. Wear some shorts and a shirt."

"Don't own those type of shorts but I have jeans." She walked to her bags and bent over and began digging through them. When she found the items she threw them at me and I looked them over.

It was a white undershirt and some jeans. I nodded. "It could work. Wear this."

Toni grabbed them back from me and went and changed again, while she was doing so, Gil called. I answered and he spoke. "Nafessa girl, 5 hours until show time. You're still coming right?"

"Yeah I am. Hey is it cool if I bring Toni?" I asked to make sure.

"I don't see why not. Janet's coming though, so I hope that doesn't effect the whole thing. I don't want no drama at my shit, and I let her know that. So it should be fine."

"Okay. Good. Cause we aren't the best of friends right now either."

"At this point, I just hope she leaves the bs at the door but then again, it's Janet we're talking about."

He continued rambling but I had put my attention on something else. Toni walked back into the room and nothing else mattered at the moment.

"Yay or nay?" She asked me as she motioned towards her outfit.

I nodded at her and refrained the urge of biting my lip before speaking to Gil. "Yeah mhm. Hey let me call you back." Hanging up, I smiled. "You like it or no?"

She nodded softly before tucking some of her hair back. "Yeah. I like it."

For some reason, she got back into her shell and I noticed when she did. I pulled her over to me and connected our lips. From my position, I could feel everything. Even when she melted into me. This wasn't just a peck. No, not this time. This time, more emotions than ever before were planted into these kisses. Butterflies shot through my body as we made out shortly.

When we pulled apart she mumbled. "I don't think I'll ever get used to that feeling."

"What feeling?"

"I get these butterflies every time we kiss. It's weird, I know but—."

"I get them too." I smiled softly as she looked up at me in shock that I had agreed.

I found myself staring at her and she chuckled. "You're weird."

I feened like I was offended. "What? How am I weird?"

Toni tugged a piece of hair behind her ear as she walked away and I followed her into the hallway. "Because you're always staring at me."

"How can I help it? You're beautiful."
