WYATT

I couldn’t believe how time flies by. It would be less than a month now before graduation and summer break and then college. I had made up my mind. My results and my overall credits would allow me to pursue for a Sports Science major in college in fall – I’ve applied for Bryant and I’m praying so hard that I’ll be getting their acceptance letter sometime this summer – which is quite close to Brown.

It would be super handy for both Coop and I, because he’ll be starting college the same time as well and we could always go back home together.

“Dude, I’m so gonna beat your ass.”

“In your dreams, man.”

“Let’s make this interesting. Whoever lose will be bottoming for the whole month.” Someone suggested from our table, definitely a girl’s and I bet it was Will. He would always come up with the silliest bets. We were all huddled around a pair of joined tables in Dexter’s Diner downtown.

“Hey, that ain’t fair! He’s a goddamn footballer!”

My boyfriend began to pout a bit and his grip on mine loosened a bit, throwing daggers at her direction. The other guys were laughing their ass off with Will’s idea, completely agreeing even with Tyson’s hesitance.

“Take it or leave it, brah.”

I cocked my brow at him and he smiled, his defined jaws clenched and there was a sudden spark of excitement burning in his beautiful brown eyes – mirroring mine but I was quite positive that I’m gonna win this. Will was cheering for me while the other boys were torn between the two of us.

I got this in the bag, fosho.

“A month yeah? No holding back?”

“Babe, I don’t mind playing dirty with you anyways.”

Another round of cheers, hoots and howls erupted from the group, some of them chanting their favorite to win and I was glad that I chose the spot by the edge of the diner, away from the other patrons. We were just a bunch of high school seniors – apart from Will of course – getting a bit hyped up with testosterones and life.

The waiter didn’t even bother to let us know our place, she had probably expected it every single time we hung out here after school whenever there’s no football practice. My teammates are like my brothers, they stick up to me all the way – I really appreciated their support in the field after I came out to the team and the school and they returned it with respect, especially from Duncan the QB.

You could say that I was lucky and I had it all good.

The school was ending soon and I am so looking forward for summer. I already made some plans to go on a road trip with Tyson, hopefully all the way until Cape Cod. Neither of us had been there and our parents wouldn’t mind as long as we’re being considerate drivers on the road.

“Ty, prepare to get owned.”

“I might be a tracks star but you’re not the only one hitting the gym, bro.”

“I like them confidence in you, brah.”

“Stop talking ghetto with me, Wyatt. It’s horible, seriously.”

Will decided to elect himself as the unofficial ref for the hand wrestling competition going on for the last fifteen minutes, while we waited for our food to be served. Will – being the only girl in my posse – would be unbiased so I have absolute faith in him.

“So are you girls ready to rumble?”

“Dude, seriously? Rumble?”

Duncan mocked at Will and the other guys joined in the sneering laugh but Will was used to it by now. If any of them have problems with Will, they would have to go through me first and they didn’t go too far as physically hurting him. Will might not have gone to our school but he was the most brilliant in the group, after Tyson of course. My awesome bf was the perfect babe because he’s undeniably – not self-proclaimed, he’s not that full of himself thank God – a triple threat, he got them looks, brain and a fine-ass personality to boot.

Everybody love Tyson and I love him the most.

“I love you bae.”

“You’re so gonna bottom for me, Wyatt.”

I brushed my thumb on his knuckles and I loved the fact that it brough the intensity down. I love his feisty, competitive side and it would be balanced out by his usual calm-ass demeanor that I adore way too much. He was just your typical boy-next-door who also happened to be gay. I also love that he was not acting too feminine and campy for my taste – not that I have anything against it but yeah, it’s just my personal preference.

I like boys for being boys, end of story.

Will is a whole different story altogether. He’s more of a dude than all of us football players combined. He may looked different on the outside but my school buddies learnt to accept his uniqueness like I do because deep down, Will is a boy and he was just unlucky enough not to be born as one.

“Dude, if you kept on spacing out I’m so gonna make your ass mine.”

“Ty, mine is yours and yours are mine. Fair share remember?”

“Okay lovebirds, are you guys going to fight or not?” Duncan boomed, standing next to Will with his huge arms crossed over his bulky chest and stood so tall as compared to Will who looked so fragile and beautiful at the same time. Will just lacked the right hormone, I guess.

The rest of my teammates looked like they’re on steroids but they would never be that stupid, I have seen them trained and it was gruelling to say the least. They would eat the entire dinner if they want just to cater their muscular growth, with no need for artificial enhancement drugs.

Some of the tough guys next to me – Nolan, Tanner and Alonso – were thumping their palms on top of the table, thus earning more attention from the other patrons around us. I couldn’t care less as long as we didn’t bother them too much. I was somewhat glad that the bench of diner seats magically able to fit all of eight of us. I was grateful that the others didn’t bring their oh-so-cliched cheerleader girlfriends – most of them slutty as fuck – with them because this chill time was meant for the guys only.

“Focus on getting beaten, Ty.”

“Whatever you say, bro.”

Will counted to three after we both nodded at him. We already found our comfortable stance and our elbow locked in place on top of the table, which was wide enough that it wouldn’t separate us too far apart and make this so uncomfortable for us.

I could feel the muscles of his forearm straining in order to pull my hand down to his side, hoping to own the challenge. I wouldn’t be giving him too much chance, either. He knew that I like it rough sometimes and we would flip-flop whenever we feel like it. It would be interesting that either one of us would be stuck to be the bottom for a month but the privacy part is still applied so we would screw each other as we like.

It would be mindblowing every single time we did it and it is amazing to say the least, but it’s also private and intimate. I was quite shocked that Will would propose it in the first place.

Before I knew it, I lost focus and Ty chose that moment to up his game.

He’s left-handed and he used his full arm force and power to bring my arm down with his. His grip tightened and within seconds I could blink at him and he had won unceremoniously. My teammates were booing shamelessly at me and began to send me apologetic-mixed-with-disappointed looks, standing up close to slap me on my back with pity condolence and Tyson was grinning so wide with pride. I rolled my eyes and stood up abruptly, shocking up and then cupped his face in my hands, so that I could pulled him closer and planted a loud smack on his lips with mine, making the crowd go wild yet again.

I would never be the one for unimprovised PDAs and he wasn’t one to regret showing off either so it was a perfect blend of randomness with reserved notions.

He was quite breathless when I released his face from grasp. His eyes opened slowly with a dramatic flair that he began to associate with his part in the school’s sold-out play. He has a nice shade of milky chocolate tone and his smile stole me away every time.

“Wow I wasn’t expecting that, cowboy.”

“I’m always full of surprises, baby.”

“But you still lost. Don’t try to win me over with a kiss, it won’t work.”

Will moved over to the counter to ask for our food and the lady said he could sit back down, the food will be ready soon. I bet he wanted to lend a hand in bringing the food to our tables. Whenever we ordered, we would go all out and the school food wasn’t so filling either so yeah, we don’t mind pigging out a bit except for Will and Ty of course – they said they would be fine with chicken salad and Dr Pepper.

“Yeah yeah, you won. You earned it, bro.”

“I knew you would go all daydreaming mode again so yeah I had to take that chance, man.”

I reached over to pinch the tip of his adorable nose and he gruntled an annoyed tone back at me. I love treating him like a kid sometimes and we would spoil each other with kisses sometimes but not too much.

We’re just two boys in love. We didn’t need to act like the rest of the world didn’t matter.

Duncan began his finger drumming session and two of the guys were giving out random shots of possible songs based on his tune. The guessing game carried on for a few more minutes while I looked at the beauty sitting opposite me.

I didn’t really choose to be anything other than straight. I was born with it and it was definitely not a goddamn choice like some people would point it out. I just didn’t feel like acting to it before, I guess. Boys are just as interesting and as crazy as girls, to be honest. It didn’t mean that I was plunging head first in my first-ever solid relationship with a boy; it just meant that I wanted this to happen and I had given a thorough thought.

It was meant to be and it was perfect. I’m just so blessed that he would wanna hang out with me. The dude was a real catch and I was a bit worried at first that my charms wouldn’t work out the way I wanted. I didn’t know that he already hold an adorable crush on me for at least a year before I made up my mind that I’m just a pansexual.

A certain someone just brought it out inside and I was sure I wasn’t a hundred percent straight thanks to him. I would be indebted to him for life, seriously.

“I won’t be your sex slave if you keep on looking at me like that, you know.”

“Who said I wanted you just for sex huh?”

“I could always tell and hey, who wouldn’t want a piece of me?” He snickered back at me and his hand found its way towards mine on top of the table, praying that the food will be ready pronto or all hell will break loose. Duncan and the other boys are still engrossed with the guess the song game, acting like real fifth graders.

Will’s eyes were trained on the entrance so I followed it, glancing over my shoulder to see a familiar guy walking in with the door closed behind him with a jingle. Some of the other patrons had already started to leave and the homely diner was not so crowded anymore.

“Who’s that?”

“That, dear Ty is my brother’s bf.”

“That’s the guy you told me about?” I was expecting it. The same reaction when Will laid his eyes on Angelo too, a few weeks ago. The Italian dude stood out with his badass-looking biker jacket and his sleek well-coiffed raven hair would attract attention from a mile away.

He was in a whole, a well decent guy and he had been nothing but perfect for Coop. I am so proud of Coop, he had helped me through my slight confusion and it was all clear now thanks to my awesome stepbrother.

“Do you wanna say hi to him?”

I shook my head and two waitresses bound over towards our tables to serve the orders made when we walked in. The basket of fries and ribs and a few other assortments of real men food were passed around to the one that ordered, along with specific drinks both canned and in tall glasses. We quickly thanked the two cute ladies in unison and began wolfing down the food without any second thoughts.

We couldn’t really blame the cook because the place was quite packed just now.

My eyes trailed back over towards him and he stood by the counter, his face upturned to watch the familiar grubs sets and the special-of-the-day in store, neatly laid out on top. He was tapping his chin a few times – I’m thankful that he still didn’t see me yet so that’s good. We haven’t really chatted much since he was a busy, working guy and Coop had only brought him for dinner for about four times since last Thanksgiving.

“Are you going to eat that macaroni?”

I blinked hard a few times and ducked my face away from his view.

“Yeah of course, I’ms starving remember?”

Tyson couldn’t see me like this. I’ve really gotten over it. I have him and I couldn’t have been more rejoiced with it. Well blame the damn hormones then. I began to shove down some of the cheesy delight in my mouth followed by soundless chewing as compared to the other guys who wouldn’t mind chatting loudly with their mouth full – Duncan mostly and I swear I could see a hint of an interested gaze that Will threw at him longer than a few seconds much to the quarterback’s ignorance.

Duncan is as straight as the come, unfortunately.

I didn’t notice him walking at us, oh shit.

“Hey Wyatt, what’s up?”

I swallowed my fourth mouthful of the fine, yummy pasta – close enough but it couldn’t ever beat my mum’s though – and turned towards him as he stood close by the table, his hands hidden halfway inside his jeans’ pockets and a huge warm smile on his face.

He had been a positive aura for Coop and I didn’t mind that at all. My brother needed someone like him to feel good about himself and learn to get infected with the positivity in overall. “What’s up, man?”

“I almost didn’t see you there. No footbal practice today?”

“Yeah sorry, I didn’t notice you too. I was enjoying the mac and cheese here so.” I washed down my suddenly drying throat with the orange juice and returned back his award-winning smile. “Yup, Coach gotta go back early because it’s his daughter’s bday or something like that.”

“Cool. I’ll see you soon then.”

“Oh… uhm… is this your first time buying food here?”

He nodded with another toothy wide smile as I tuned out everyone else on our tables, my food a secondary focus too. “Exactly, how did you know?”

“Well let’s just say that we love hanging out here after school or after practice. The owner, Dex was a good friend with my dad. I just havent seen you around before, that’s all.”

“Oh I understand. Yes, my schedule is getting more insane lately and I don’t have time to cook like I used to.”

“Dude, there’s no shame in eating out. At least you’re not like Coop, he would rather just make an order by phone.”

He laughed with the truth, probably attuned to my brother’s whims by now. “That’s so true. He loves my cooking too so that’s great. I couldn’t compete with your mother though, that’s for sure.”

It was my turn to chuckle and from the corner of my eyes, the other guys were mostly finished, licked the plates clean and I was only halfway done. Ty and Will were thankfully, taking their time. I could chill a bit, I think.

“My bro would eat anything especially if it’s free and cooked by someone else.”

“I really need to teach him to cook before he goes to college later.”

Someone grabbed our attention and we both turned towards the source – one of the cashier guys behind the counter called up for Angelo. I nodded at him and he took a few steps closer to slap me on my shoulders with more of a real brotherly vibe before turning on his heels back to the counter to collect his orders wrapped nicely in a big brown paper bag.

He waved at me with that dimpled smile before he walked out so that the next person in line could make an order. The bag was in his hand so my gaze followed his back until he reached his own car, a maroon Hyundai Veloster parked a few slots away from the main entrance of the diner.

“He seems nice.”

“He is nice, Ty.”

“So why do I feel like you don’t like him that much?”

I gave him a confused frown and pulled my head back a bit, my fingers turning the fork around on the plate and subsconsciously playing with the melted, gooey yellow decadence. I didn’t feel so famished anymore and I didn’t have any idea why. He looked at me like I had lost everything, my money and also my sanity. I decided that the best way to deal with this sort of situation is to shut the hell up and zip my mouth firmly. He wouldn’t budge me too much and he understood me so well.

Will gave me that knowing look before focusing back on his chicken salad and the gowing guilt raining down on me was very much uncomfortable. I really hated hiding out stuffs from him because he was the best boyfriend I could ever ask for.
